  1. I remember another recent Board discussion on a similar matter. What I took out of the discussion was... if the books were not insured, E-Bay can't help you.
  2. News to me, I always tape the flap. It must be one those rules they rarely enforce. I believe I was nailed once for an additional fee because my flat rate envelope, with some stiff cardboard inside, was rigid.
  3. I would have loved to bid on that Showcase 22. The only trouble is I didn't know the auction was going on. I'm a small player and not worthy of a Heritage catalog or even a mailing. Maybe Heritage should spend a little of their fee money and promote the auctions better.
  4. I agree the book looks great ! Unlike the Qualified label, where the flaw is overlooked in the grade, the Purple label does not seem to ignore the flaw. My opinion of course but I have called for grader notes on some of my plod submissions. A crease with a CT was still noted as a crease. A tear seal was still noted as a tear. Maybe a trim is still graded as a piece missing ? How CGC grades a PLOD is very vague to me.
  5. Great, great copies of two tough to find in grade books. Congrats.
  6. CGC did the same thing with the Don Rosa collection. In fact the Boards argued about this with many believing it was a pedigree. I even called CGC and they said Don Rosa is not a pedigree, the presence of the word 'collection' indicating thus. Hoiwever, I agree with you, it is not a Pedigree and should not be noted in the pedigree field. Nice collection !
  7. They are all tough to find in grade. I'd say the 8 is a tad easier than some of the other single digit TTA's. Per the census, there are 2 in 8.5 and 2 in 9.0 . This has been in my collection for years and I finally decided to get it graded. I was hoping for a 7.0 but 6.5 is respectable. I now have a graded, 4,6, and 8 = I'm one third of the way toward a run of single digit TTA. 6.5 is very respectable considering the consensus data. Plus, a nice looking 6.5 can be a very attractive book. Where are you with #11+? You've assembled quite the pre hero Marvel Horror collection. Thank you. I have 11,12,14,16,22,25,26,28, and 34 slabbed. I also have a few others still raw. I bought most of these back in the 90's. Back then they were still reasonably priced though not that easy to find.
  8. You selling that? Sorry, no. It's been in my collection for years and I finally decided to get it graded.

  10. It's got a date of January 9 = my birthday. The book is definitely calling me but most likely out of my range.
  11. I cringe everytime I see that picture. Something else was going on there. I have a gun safe in my basement with a nearby dehumidifer. I have kept raw comics in there for probably 10 years with no problems. I have kept slabs in there for 5+ years with no problems. Not sure of the specific situation with the safe in that picture but there must have been some other chemicals involved. From what I remember it happened quickly, a 9.8 Hulk 181 no less. Even in a humid environment it would take a long time to get that kind of rust. In summary, I believe safes are safe for your staples.
  12. Regarding the 9.0, look for staple issues, either cover or centerfold. These are so easy to miss.
  13. +1 I've saved a ton of money on shipping since I opened a FedEx account a few years ago, especially on larger shipments. And the precise tracking is a nice bonus. As many times as I complained to Eric about it, I wonder why he did not mention this alternative shipping? You are right about that. For years I did not know you could specify an alternative carrier. I don't know why but they don't seem to offer this info unless you ask. I can't imagine why they would care ?
  14. If you have insurance from CI, Fedex is the only way to go - they only cover up to $2,500 for UPS shipments (no matter how it's sent through UPS), but go up to $60,000 for Fedex. Yes but I believe you need a signature for over 250.00 ? Still, a small price to pay.
  15. Peewee, as a suggestion, open up a FedEX account and specify Fedex Ground on your CGC invoice. I usually get my Fedex Ground in 2 days as oppossed to Registered mail. It's faster and a lot cheaper !
  16. I've had cases where the pre-screen changed, both ways. I believe only one grader looks at it for the prescreen and can be overruled by the finalizer. I have noticed the number of books passing always remains the same. I think this is because they put in the credit card charge after the prescreen. Keeping the count the same saves a lot of accounting. Of course, I am just speculating.
  17. I don't think I have ever seen this book before. It is indeed rare. Congrats.
  18. I've had this for a long time. I guess I forgot to submit it for my club entry.
  19. Regarding the #34, here's a scan of the Back cover in it's raw state. Absolutely pristine clean.
  20. That too looks to be a really nice copy for a 9.0. Thanks Hep. All of the above slabs were submitted by me from my personal collection. The #34 is indeed too nice to be a 9.0 . In hand, it had that never been opened feel to it. I don't like to practice the crack and resubmit game but one of these days I will resub that one. I remember one grader gave it a 9.2.
