Though there is no harm to the book, it is annoying as heck to look at. DO a search on this site and you can read more about it. Edit: I just noticed you left a Link. I looked but honestly did not see anything abnormal.

I have to agree with you on all of the above. While it's unfortunate that some Mile High books were tampered with, it is what it is and they should not have been granted a loophole. I'm not familiar with the Jay Parrino 'arrangement'. Any chance you can expound ?

OKay, I don't think I ever posted here as I don't like to get up early to attend Flea Markets. I accompanied my wife to a local Flea Market today about 1:00 in the afternoon. Even if there were comics, they would be picked over, right ? Found these. Should have bought the whole run but I didn't realize value.

Well, that's not good. I've seen this happen when the cover 'sticks' to the inner well, while the insides move. Not sure why, maybe static electricity ? This situation puts stress on the staples, which can result in tears or, worst case, detachment. In the short term, store this book flat to alleviate the stress of gravity. Do not leave it vertical. If I received this book, I would send it back. Sorry.

Are you using the service for transactions with complete strangers ?

I don't know about Zelle. It's difficult to feel comfortable with this service for doing business with a complete stranger. It sounds like Paypal Friends and Family, which is not allowed here on the Boards. No protection at all, transactions cannot be canceled. Minimally, this should be discussed. The Zelle service is intended for payments to those the payer already knows and trusts adequately, and the service disclaims any responsibility for goods and services sold through the system.[20]

Unfortunately, the CGC scans are not very good quality. The few I got had a small glare and made the book look dark and dingy. Here's a couple examples.

I think many of us have the same problem. To eliminate glare, it's obvious the book must be angled. I found that moving the book while it is upright is better than laying the book flat and trying to angle the camera. I like to tilt the book back and forth as oppossed to side to side. I got lucky on a couple pics with my camera that came out really good and I think the lighting situation helped. Bright, LED lighting seems to look sharper and more clear. WIsh I coule help more, it is a lot of trial and error. Each book seems to have it's own unique challenge.

Just what the world needs, another DIY presser. First off, there have been so many (too many) threads on this exact topic that I find it hard to believe you could not find anything. Many, including myself, frown upon these kind of threads. Pros that have spent many years fine tuning their skills generally do not wish to share. While I don't really care that you want to press your own books, eventually these books find their way into the marketplace. As a collector I am discouraged by the volume of bad pressings I see in the marketplace. The hobby doesn't need more pressers. However, if this is what you want to be when you grow up, then good luck. BTW, for better or worse, these threads usually end badly.

Answers to these two questions. 1) Not necessarily and 2) YES !!!!

You are right, the top staple is like brand new shiny, however, the bottom staple has some rust. Unfortunately, the pics provided of the overall book are very cropped but many things look suspicous here.

On the vertex of the spine, below the bottom staple, it appears to be color touched. As rough as the spine seems to be, the other edges seem awfully sharp. I cannot state for a fact there is trimming but I would be suspect. I'm sorry but I think this book was worked on.

For the record, I am a fan of Heritage. The policy of 'no returns on graded comics' is not unique to Heritage, many Board sales state the same. However, just because it's graded, doesn't mean it's the same as advertised. Damage and deterioration can happen inside a slab or to ther slab. The onus should not be solely on the buyer. BTW, in your correspondence with Heritage, did you ever get an explanation as to why the two scans were materially different ? It seemed like a bait and switch situation.

Not a good response. He is clearly stating they do not want customers like you. Customers that inspect the book, and the slab, for damage. They want customers that will blindly accept the book as long as the label looks the same. They want you to buy the label, not the book. They are protecting the consignor here, not the buyer. I would like to have Heritage come on here to discuss but I suspect they will not. So much for feeling safe buying from Heritage.

I'm sorry but the Registry is completed outdated and past it's usefulness. It's obvious CGC does not want to invest any time or money into it and, to be honest, I don't blame them. There is no revenue to be gained from this product. I still use the Registry but only for insurance purposes. With the assigned points about as current as a 20 year old Overstreet it is no longer competitive or fun. Myslabbedcomics is much more robust and easy to use. You can list all your slabbed books, regardless of the company, and scroll through long runs of books, with pics, rather quickly. It has the ability to add comments.

Yes, good observation. It's the Costanza effect that is so common on today's submissions. I guess this look is now accepted as 'normal' .
