  1. Though I could not convince Duck of this, I do think the posted TAT's are simply guidelines and should not be taken so analytically . They are also meant to be a current status and not a projection. I do think CGC gives first nod and tries to meet the TAT when Fast Track is selected. They also try harder on the more expensive tiers. That leaves normal Economy and Value tiers subject to greater delays. I am not a CGC employee, just basing my statement on personal experience. If I am wrong, I apologize, especially to Duck .
  2. Regarding the number of staff members at a con, I remember an incident where a Same Day submission to Saratoga, during a major onsite con, had a problem. CGC later acknowledged the problem and cited the fact that there were no senior graders in Saratoga that day. Going forward, they said same day submissions may be delayed a day = they would never again grade a same day submission without a senior grader.
  3. Not to disagree but doesn't the bottom edge of the #2 look particularly sharp and unscathed of wear ?
  4. I would not disagree with your assessment of resto on these books, however, I would debate your generalized comment on valuation. Even in low grades, especially with trimming, it has more than a negligible effect on value. Of course I am thinking in terms of percentage and you may be thinking absolute dollars, in which case we are both correct.
  5. The link is at the top of the screenshot. You can look at their calendar, again on the website, to see which cons they participate in. Also, I believe for cross country cons (West Coast) you need to include two days off for travel, not just one. Additionally, because they need to move equipment and use more staff, cons with onsite grading need to add yet a third day.
  6. Sorry but I think YOU are crossing the line by making personal derogatory comments about me. How in the world can you interpret my comments as 'dishonest' ? IMO, you are complaining about CGC TAT, I stand by that. I'm sorry if I did not differentiate your comments between your Mag and Value submissions. It's still all your comments and I still think you are complaining. Understand, I stand by your right to complain. MY comments were targeted to your business day calculations, which I believe are wrong. You refuse to comprehend you may be wrong and instead prefer to demeaning me on a personal level. Not cool. Sorry.
  7. Taken from the CGC website.......................
  8. You may call them 'facts' but they sound like complaints to me. All your comments following...... - CCS and CGC are the same company. If they are slow in one facet, I expect them to make it up in other facets. - CGC and CCS are under staffed. They need to hire more employees and/or buy more equipment. - We're now at 90 business days from "Rec-CCS Required" on an 80 day CCS/CGC TAT estimate and have not yet made it to shipped safe. That seems a bit excessive. - Was also told my value submissions made on June 10 are likely looking at a mid-December completion. That's a 6 month TAT for a normal Value press and grade submission. - The stated turnaround times when I submitted back on June 10 where CCS = 45 business days and CGC = 57 business days. That's significantly different that the TAT information that CGC is communicating to its customers today. I expect that the TAT estimate they gave me in June would reflect CGC's experience as to what they expected
  9. Which backs my point that the posted TAT's are current, point in time. they are NOT projections. I
  10. Which is exactly in line with their current posted TAT's. CCS states 62 business days, CGC 63 business days = 125 business days between them. Mathematically that equals 175 calendar days. Add in holiday and the estimate is spot on. I don't see a problem here other than you are anxious. If you wanted it faster you should have used Fast Track.
  11. The posted TAT's are NOT estimated TAT's. They are current TAT's. You are using them as a projection, you are wrong. Your comment here.. 'CCS and CGC are the same company. If they are slow in one facet, I expect them to make it up in other facets.' Again, you are wrong. It just doesn't work that way. You posted 'If you think I'm being unfair in how I calculate TAT, let me know.' . So, I think you are being unfair and I let you know. Sharing TAT's status here is fine, I never said anything to the contrary. I am just pointing out you are probably not correct in your business day calculations. Just like you, I am sharing information.
  12. First off, I am not the enemy here. I'm just trying to tell you the reality of TAT's in the CGC world. The posted estimate of TAT's is generally based on where they are currently at, not a projection of the future. BTW, regarding my 'assertion' of you including the business days between submission and received was taken directly from your post. You specifically stated 'Bus. days since Con submission = 4)'. You mentioned it, how can you accuse me of making an assertion ? If you don't want to believe my comments about losing business days around cons, that's okay. Arguing with me, telling me I am wrong and making assertions, is not going to get your book to you any faster.Good luck.
  13. The bottom edge of the ASM #2 looks razor sharp, maybe trimmed. Compare it to the bottom edge of the #3. The specific grade in this range is much less important than the presence of restoration.
  14. No, their take on 'slight' is probably much different than most . Ditto the word 'small'. In this case the trimmed on two sides is the biggest negative. It cannot be undone or improved. Collectors don't like it. Your book has excellent eye appeal but the trimming will hurt the value.
  15. I hope you realize that during Con season, especially with onsite grading, you lose business days for purposes of calculating TAT's. They just did onsite at Baltimore and then had NYC . The couple days before and after are considered Out of Office Days, not Business days. Ditto for all the big summer cons. Also, you should not hold the days between submission and Received in the calculation. This is shipping time. I know you haven't seen your book since June and you are anxious but I don't think your business days calculations is acccurate. Sorry.
  16. On Oct 8 you posted 'CGC took 16 business days (-29 under estimate)' . So, as of today, 10 business days later, they should be at -19 under estimate.
  17. First off, I think you have a misunderstanding of just what a press/clean can accomplish and it will not help here. I would return this book immediately. Don't even try to fix it. Return it.
  18. This book looks so fragile I would not risk a press. As mentioned above, if that second staple pops, you now have a detached cover and a lower grade. There isn't one thing in the notes that can be improved with a press. Also, you are correct that it would NOT look good being overly flat with all those flaws.
  19. Not sure if my comment is still applicable but I believe they have to calibrate the encapsulation machine differently for a magazine. They would let the CGC magazine submissions build up and do them all at once, thus requiring the calibration only once. Typically, it was about once a week. Encapsulation has always been the cog in the wheel for a magazine submission. Not sure if submitting one Modern magazine is worth the expense either ?
  20. You can ask for a blue label but it is going to take a big hit on the grade. I really don't think there is an easy way out of this situation. Chalk it up to a lesson learned the hard way.
  21. I'm not sure why you would even risk it . Even the slightest handling, a hint of a fingerprint, could downgrade it. The risk reward is not there. Crazy even to consider it.
  22. Interesting. I'm not sure if this is logistically possible as CGC requires associated paperwork for all incoming shipments, even a reholder. How would the CGC receiving department know what to do with your incomnig E-Bay purchase ?
  23. It does have excellent eye appeal. However, I stand by my statement that this has a lot of restoration, including trimming on two sides. This book will appeal to someone that simply wants a copy. I think it's best to put a book like this in auction. Trying to figure out the FMV would just be anyone's guess.
