  1. These books all look to be aggressively pressed. They don't have a natural look to them. Turn down the heat a little.
  2. 'There is no Buyers Premium on any of the lots in the auction and almost every listing has no reserve.' ?????? I just counted 112 books currently not meeting Reserve . I guess the definition of 'almost' is subjective depending on your POV.
  3. Just look them up on E-Bay, looking at Sold items. Search for 'X-Men 1 1991' . BTW, not worth much.
  4. How much does lunch cost ? How much is a new car ? How much does a used comic book cost ? Etc. Etc. Etc. Hope you see what I mean.
  5. You gave us no pics, no mention of the era or genre of the books, how do you expect an answer ?
  6. Hey, I didn't realize, I have a Crippen book. Graded 12/2006 .
  7. First off, do you even know how to use a Search Function ? Secondly, it is in poor taste to ask this question on our host's website. Third, you get what you pay for. Not looking to spend too much leads to not liking the results too much.
  8. The stains are definitely problematic. It would be helpful to know if they permeate the front cover. There is also a sizable tear, upper right Back Cover. There is long vertical creasing along the spine, as well as on the spine. There is also some long creases, though faint, on the bottom right cover. I just don't think this can make 6.0, but maybe 5.5 is attainable. Good Luck !!!! Nice book.
  9. I remember my first time submitting to CGC, I was a nervous wreck about the whole process. I submitted 3 relatively expensive books and they actually called me to say they received the books. After that, I felt better and everything went smoothly. This was many years ago and I think things are more hectic over there now so I wouldn't expect such personalized service again. But they are still a really good company and respond to any problems. Having said that, they are often behind in their turnaround time and one really does need patience. Tip: If you do have a problem call them, don't even bother E-Mailing. They are good about answering the phones, not so much with E-Mail. Good luck with your submission !
  10. Dude, if you are going to submit to CGC, you have to have some patience throughout the process. I would give them a couple more days. They open up your package and match the contents to your invoice. You might see a Received status first, with no information, and then shortly later a 'Verified' status meaning the contents matched.
  11. It depends on the amount of CT and the location. Keep in mind, in most cases they have to literally scrape it off, often leaving an unsightly situation. I would suggest sending it to CCS for a review and they can advise.
  12. Yes, I totally agree, especially with the Newton Rings situation. Why risk spending the money when you may not be happy with the result.
  13. I agree, the basis for my comment was to say there's not much CGC can do, which is what CGC told me at the time. No matter what the reason, the book is not in their possession and they don't own the property. Or is there something in the fine print and we don't really own the slabs, just renting them ? Just joking of course. The person that buys the book is in a better position to do something. IMO, CGC cannot initiate anything against the seller but can support and assist in the event the buyer takes action. IMO, CGC recognized this 'problem' a long time ago which is why we now have the new slab design.
  14. Actually, I agree with Rick on this. You can give a compliment without quoting the book. He's right, it can give the appearance that the book is sold. If I am flipping through a lengthy sales thread, without regard for details, I would have assumed a Sold book.
  15. Having this book in 9.8, without benefit of pressing, is very cool and I can understand your apprehension about giving it to CCS. You are correct about the leeway on a 9.8 . If there is no tear or color break, CCS can probably get it back to 9.8 but if that's not what you want I would stand by it and see what other alternatives they can offer. BTW, whether this happened during encapsulation or afterward, this is a bad example of encapsulation. No side of the book should be pushed against the edge like that. Make sure you point out that fact to them during your discussion. Again, good luck.
  16. First off, I feel your pain. Been there done that. I suspect it maybe happened in encapsulation or during shipping. They put a wedge on the left and 'rammed' the book all the way to the right. Now, either it happened while 'centering' it in the slab, pressing too hard on the right edge, or during shipping it was shoved against the right edge. CGC is very good about making things right. They will probably send your book to CCS and get it fixed and regraded. If it grades out, you get your original book back. If not, you may be offered some options. I have heard they will sometimes buy a comparable book on the secondary market to compensate but don't quote me on that. Call them Monday. Don't E-Mail, call. Good luck.
  17. I agree that having the notes can validate the originality of a book in auction. There have been situations where sellers have switched out the label or the book but I don't think this has been happening with the new case. The new case design is virtually impossible to open without it self destructing. You used to be able to open the case at the sides. The new cases are sealed on the sides. I think there is only a sliver of an opening at the top and prying it open cracks the case.
  18. Actually, the content of that link of their policy states 'they often enter comments about the collectible's condition'.Note the word 'often', not 'will' but 'often'. THis has been a big discussion point of late and CGC has given a formal reply to the Boards stating they are trying to give notes on anything below 9.8 but they also also trying to keep up with TAT's. I think the TAT's are first priority. So, I would suggest giving them some leeway here.
  19. Really nice book, great eye appeal for the grade. In some cases, where all the flaws are obvious and visible in the slab, CGC will not give notes. I'm not saying I agree with this but picture a grader with stacks of books to grade, way behind schedule, and he is trying to cut some corners to catch up. IN your case the bottom right hand corner crease alone would top this book at 6.0ish. Factor in the obvious spine wear and you got a nice grade of 5.0 . BTW, all flaws are not listed in notes, just the flaws that mattered in the assignment of grade.
  20. To be honest, I think 8.5 was generous. Usually, a sizable corner crease will hold it at 8.5. This book has two, bottom right and top right. That top staple is stressed. There is nothing I can see that a press will improve to compensate for the above mentioned flaws.
  21. Actually, I agree this is a 'soft' 9.6. I've made this comment many times, stay away from books graded during the 2011 period. It's after Mark Haspel left CGC and Paul Litch became head grader. I don't know why but CGC's grading for high grade during this time frame was embarrassingly soft. I just checked the grade date of this FF 13, May 2011 . It's a beautiful book and I'm sure all of us would love to own it. Personally, I love the date stamp and I'm not sure this book was worthy of being singled out as a soft grade but it does appear to be soft.
