  1. Thanks. I hope this is not standard practice, to try and 'sneak' expensive books through the Standard Tier. I know CGC is lenient on the bump and sometimes it is difficult to decide the proper tier but this is crazy. Lion, do the graders know what tier it is submitted in ? Where in the process should this be caught ?
  2. You want him to submit an easily 5K book in a standard tier ? Maybe you are not aware of the current market for this book or you consider CGC an easy mark. Of course this book should go into a Walkthrough tier. OP, you can expect to pay somewhere in the 125 - 150 area for this book to be graded, not counting shipping.
  3. Why does it stink ? Let me ask you a question, if you bought a 9.8 and upon receiving it the book had a noticable color breaking spine tick, would you be happy ? People expect a 9.8 to look perfect. It may not be perfect but the flaws should not be as obvious as a color breaking spine tick. IMO, a 9.8 should have a perfect spine. I'm sorry but your book is no better than 9.6, no matter how much you keep asking. BTW, I'm sure if you keep asking someone will come on here and say you can get a 9.8.
  4. If the rust has started to migrate to the spine, that is more than a 'small' amount. Unless it's a tiny, single 'dot', isolated to one spot on the staple only, I avoid them. Rust is one of those flaws that can get worse over time, even in the slab. If the migration has already started, I would not purchase this book. I also think many collectors avoid rusty staples.
  5. I'm in total agreement with you. All I see nowadays are books with that pancaked look. Real collectors have unpressed books ! Someday, originality will be valued for more than an opportunity to press.
  6. Trust me, you will have no problem selling that book.
  7. Great book and a very nice copy ! Lots of eye appeal and strong cover colors. Congrats.
  8. If they would only 'loosen up' the sides of the case a little we could utilize the old trick of sticking an envelope in there. It would remove the Newton Rings everytime.
  9. You may be right, in fact it may already be sold from just showing it here ! I do think this book can benefit from a press.
  10. If this is really a newbie, I'm sure he's getting PM's already. While so many here offer good advice, there are some that will try and take advantage of the situation. My advice to the guy, for the best return get it pressed and graded, then sell it in auction. You can look on the CGC website for the services they offer, costs, and how to guides. Good luck.
  11. I think I see what you mean. Yes, they are usually centered but this could be an optical illusion because the book is tilted for the picture. Maybe
  12. For future reference.......................
  13. I don't think they are working on it. I believe they have so much on their plate, just trying to keep up with submissions and keep a reasonable TAT, that all this other stuff is simply ignored. In the mean time, everyone just keeps on submitting.
  14. It's gone ? He must have taken it down. It says no longer available.
  15. Assuming you've got a copy also, that makes at least 3 of us that own it. I'd say, definitely NOT rare.
  16. Trust me, no matter what anyone tells you, don't even think about getting this book pressed. It is a hot book, very valuable, just submit it as is. If you want to experiment, do it on the red cover version.
  17. This is a very good VCC. The best in a long time.
  18. Well I have both of them, so I doubt they are rare, maybe difficult to find, but not rare. According to the experts, 51 is rare.
  19. Graded 02/2012. I've said this many times, the 2011 timeframe is the worst era of CGC grading, extremely loose. However, even with loose grading, this is terrible. Also, it's extremely disturbing to see people bidding on it. They must only be looking at the label.
  20. I agree with everything you said. Sometimes the effect of the 'slide' is so subtle you have to study the before and after scans. Whenever I receive a book purchased online, I immediately compare it to the original scan. If it shifts a little in the slab, no biggie but in this case the cover stayed put while the rest of the book shifted. Your point that it happens a lot is true, unfortunately.
  21. I've seen this happen, even with the previous generation of slab. The cover 'sticks' to the wall of the inner well (static electricity?) while the rest of the book is free to move around a little. Usually it's not a problem but if the shipment was packed so the contents had some wiggle room inside and could shift a little with movement, this is what happens. I think it happens more than we think but only to a lesser degree and not popping staples. BTW, the box doesn't necessarily have to show signs of damage or rough play, it's the inside packaging we are talking about here. I believe CGC will make good on this. I'm sure they will ask to have you send it back and maybe there's a chance there is no real damage. They may have to press it for you.
  22. Here's the problem as I see it. That staple is starting to tear at the book. You press the book to remove the spine roll and it will cause more stress at that staple, possibly tearing it more. Nice book, I would submit it as is and accept the 9.6. The spine roll is not bad, they may let it slide and you could get a 9.8 .
  23. HaHa same here, didn't bother me at all until I found these Boards. Now, I am still tolerant if the white stripe is pretty even but I don't like it when it's crooked. The example shown is here is not too bad but it's a common book and I would wait for a better copy.
  24. The wrap usually has no affect on the grade unless it is very extreme or we are talking about otherwise 9.9/10.0 territory. The example you showed would be able to get a 9.8 with that 'mild' miswrap.
  25. Never a tumble though there was a decline during the 2008 era of the economic crisis. Back in the 90's, I remember both Hulk 181 and ASM 129 declining a lot with a high grade 181 in the 400 range and ASM 129 down to 150 range. Of course Bronze just wasn't quite old enough(25 year rule) and didn't hit it's stride until after CGC came along.
