  1. As I explained above, I utilize my CIS insurance on my Fedex shipments and as Transplant stated it's alway's on. So minimally, I don't have to worry about insurance. Fed Ex has a number of different options depending on where you live and how fast you want it. I use the equivalent of a 2 day Ground in the 20.00 range, add a signature for 3.00 . All I can say is it's a lot cheaper than using Registered, has Tracking that works, dependable, faster shipments, and for me the most important is the delivery time window is consistent, within 10 minutes.
  2. I still don't think Metro was the reason. If it was, it may have been the final straw in a series of setbacks including the robbery. I always thought Cheetah was a stand up guy.
  3. Yet one more tidbit of information. Depending on the size and value of your collection, you may want to consider private insurance. Most of us that have comic insurance use a company called CIS, Collectibles Insurance Services. If you have a policy with them, they cover you on shipping for up to 200(? maybe 250) and a LOT more than that if you use Fedex with signature. This means you don't have to buy insurance from the carrier. It helps !
  4. This thread was actually dangerous for those of us that did not own an AF15. The desire to join the party, for both the camaraderie and the financials, was too tempting. In many ways, this thread was a self fulfilling prophecy, leading it's readers to buy overvalued copies. It's refreshing to read your comments about a possible 'mistake' being made by purchasing at the height. Most others are in denial. It's never a bad move to buy an AF15, you will be fine long term but we all should learn a lesson here. There is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. BTW, there are still many keys that are undervalued, think outside the box, maybe even consider DC ?
  5. Another small bonus of information. If you use Registered mail, CGC bills you up front, possibly months before you get the book. Using Fedex on the CGC form, you are billed by Fedex the day after delivery.
  6. Cool book. I don't see any flaws, so I am in the 9.8 camp. The good thing about this book is there is big value in less than a 9.8. Good Luck.
  7. It's been many years since I set up my Fedex account but I did it online, I don't recall it being difficult. Yes, you have to put your Fedex account number on the CGC form. CGC will not charge you for shipping or insurance. It is billed to your Fedex account. Fedex Ground from Florida gets to me in two days, always promptly delivered in the same time window around 10:AM. USPS has Priority but not necessarily 2 day Priority, sometimes it 3 days and it's delivered in a 3 to 4 hour window, for me late afternoon. In summary I get my packages from Fedex 2nd day 10:00AM. USPS Priority, at best 2nd day late afternoon.
  8. Yes, I don't think the stolen books factored into his leaving. I remember him selling off a lot of his books, books that were previously untouchable. I just can't remember why ?
  9. You are correct, if you miss the original delivery on a Registered mail it's good luck after that. You are correct, tracking is a joke, actually there is no real tracking. You are correct, the delivery for Registered mail is slow, very slow. You also didn't mention how expensive it is. So why do you continue to choose Registered mail ?
  10. You are mistaken. I was using Fedex for my CGC shipments 10 years ago. It was always an option.
  11. I love date stamps but I don't think I would like it on a 90's Modern. IMO, it should be downgraded. The vintage books were stamped for a legitimate reason. A Modern would have no reason to be stamped other than the owner had some sort of filing system. I've honestly never have seen one, let alone submitted one, but I would suspect it would not downgraded harshly. It might keep it out of 9.8 range.
  12. Look at Sold sales on E-Bay. There should be plenty of data there for this book. I don't think now is a good time to sell any WD. Wait until the new season premieres and there is more interest.
  13. Sure you are, you gave him the idea ! Just joking but in all seriousness this is exactly the reason I don't think you should have come on here and advocated this. Somebody will screw up a good book because they think the Boards give solid advice and read your thread. Look at how he asked about using wax paper ? A totally stupid idea, heat and wax don't mix. People do stupid things, that's why they put labels on alcohol bottles to not drink while pregnant. I do stupid things, I cut off my big toe with a lawn mower years ago. Just don't give them a stupid idea to run with. If ironing works for you, great, but don't advise others. Rant over.
  14. I've witnessed a wax paper experiment first hand. It melts and sticks to the paper. The book was ruined. I do not know the temperature applied. All in all, a totally stupid idea.
  15. Say, if you want to upgrade from a 9.0 to a 9.6. Most will sell their 9.0 to have money to go after a 9.6 . I'm saying do not sell the 9.0 until after a 9.6 is purchased. You never want to be without a copy, especially on hot books.
  16. Yes, bad things can happen from either the press or the whole submission process. Think of all the handling that goes on ? Unless I intend on selling a book, I never resub. Not a lot of bad experiences but enough that I cannot take a chance anymore with my prize possessions.
  17. Just a comment on selling a book with intent to upgrade. From experience, I have learned to have the upgrade purchased and in hand before moving the undercopy. The same should be said for a downgrade (yes, sometimes I downgrade), have the new book in hand before selling. Both scenarios are especially true when the book is hot. Failure to heed my advice will cost you !
  18. I think taking that one sentence out of context does not give the correct feel to my statement. 'Their non response was their way of saying it was not their fault. They are very good at accepting responsibility and if they felt it was their fault, IMO, they would have done something.' The OP did communicate with CGC, they were receptive to his inquiry. However, after presenting his case, they did not offer him anything. Had they felt it was their bad, I'm sure they would have done something. Assuming they are insanely busy at CGC, I think they realize that a negative response from them would invite further discussion. The non response is their way of ending a conversation that is going nowhere. I'm not saying it's a good approach, but I understand it.
  19. You mentioned the pages looked like they were tanning to you. They gave you Off White, which is pretty good for this book. As a Page Quality junkie, this concerns me.
  20. I just looked on Clink and they have 6 copies listed. Maybe I'm color blind but at least 4 of the 6 look Purple to me ? Glancing at E-Bay, smaller pictures but again, most look purple to me.
  21. I believe most of the posters in this thread have called and complained to CGC, to no avail. RMA, I am not disagreeing with you at all. You are correct. However, I just don't think the people in this thread appreciate such comments. They are legitimately mad at CGC. Out of respect/comraderie let them throw out the CBCS name without comment. I also don't think any back and forth from the two of us is helping anybody. You statement was correct, I just thought it better not say it. Okay ? Peace. Love. Comics. Let's not argue. Thank you in advance.
  22. Are you still trying to get a 9.8 from this book ? I have to admire your perseverance.
  23. As much as I agree with your statement, it sounds like CGC is getting back to their old, arrogant, pre-competition ways. The fact that CGC did not give a heads up on this change is inexcusable. I think CGC needs to see comments like 'CBCS is looking better' to keep them thinking. Jumping on CGC's bandwagon in this thread isn't accomplishing anything. Sorry.
  24. But what does Barney have to do with this book ? Again, there's an inside joke here that I'm missing. Why would someone start a sales thread with a made up pedigree and make fun of it. Is the whole thread a joke ? Seriously, I don't understand what's going on here. Again, whatever................
