  1. Most of my auction purchases are books I just happened to see, as opposed to seeking them out. I rarely go searching for a specific book. Because it's a big book, you will get some attention, but not as much as you would like to. Everyone knows when the next Clink auction is. How is anyone going to know you listed something ?
  2. You can help us out with this overall discussion by taking the cert number of your book and looking up the date it was graded on the CGC website. If you don't know how, just post the cert # here and we can look it up. Thanks.
  3. Unless you run frequent auctions on E-Bay, nobody is going to be looking your way unless they are specifically searching on this book. In other words, the auction houses have a bigger audience. IMO, you will do much better elsewhere.
  4. I think you are correct from the perspective that the valuation of vintage comics did not go down much during that period. However, I do think sales probably suffered. I remember going to a couple big conventions and attendance was way down. I have no stats but I would think sales of new comics were down. I know I stopped collecting moderns for a while. I do remember thinking how easy it was to win a book in an online auction in those days. Today, you have to bring the big guns.
  5. I think there is a correlation. If you feel flush with money, you don't mind spending more. If the market is tanking, you may keep it close to the vest and limit your purchases. I am retired and my 'income' is directly taken out of my stock market holdings. It matters to me.
  6. Normally, I hear they don't deduct, but these are pretty severe. I would suspect they would deduct, depending on the grade range.
  7. In that case, CGC probably knows nothing of you = they do not know a specific book belongs you. You are filling out paperwork that stays with Paradise. Paradise in turn fills out a CGC invoice that lists the books. No where in that invoice to CGC is there documentation that links a specific book to a specific Paradise client. Now this all makes sense. CGC does not know (or care) that you already paid Paradise, only that Paradise did not pay them (an assumption). When you called CGC, they don't know you, you are not a customer, you are not in their database. I hope this now makes sense to you. This is 100% on Paradise.
  8. I have a pertinent question. When the comics are shipped from CGC, are they going directly to you, or do they go to Paradise and you pick them up ?
  9. Really nice book. I'm concerned about what's going on with the upper left FC corner. Is there a spine split ? I think this corner will contain it in 6.5 range but it is so nice I could see it as 7.0 . No higher though.
  10. Interesting point. I'm not sure I know what the real issue is anymore.
  11. And I think we have answered your question multiple times as to why CGC was not helpful. From their point of view, you are not the customer, Paradise is. Next time, submit your books directly to CGC yourself to avoid these kind of situations. Also, my opinion seems to be shared by the majority here. I understand your frustration on waiting a year to get your books. You came here to complain. We responded. I am sorry you cannot understand all this.
  12. Peter, thanks for the reply. You are correct, you did not implicate CGC. I apologize for that statement. However, the implication of this thread, specifically made by your customer DonSal1976 , is that CGC was at fault. He states that CGC has knowingly been holding the books in their vault and would not answer his inquires. He is still ranting about it. I think we all realize (except for DonSal) that CGC would not talk to him because the books were not submitted by him. His accusation that CGC was holding the books in their vault is the unexplained aspect of all this. I don't think anybody here cares about the rantings of DonSal but it would be nice if you could specifically clarify what happened. If the submission was 'late' getting to CGC, no biggie. Just tell us so we can get this very disgruntled customer of yours, DonSal, out of here. Help us, HaHa !
  13. Good example. The right edge of Daredevil #1 is usually angled, protruding out near the bottom.
  14. Peter, I mean no disrespect here, however, your implication is CGC shared in the 'problem'. What exactly was the problem and why was CGC part of it ? As mentioned in the thread, the only possible explanations are you did not ship to CGC when you said you did or CGC was holding the books pending payment. If you screwed up, no biggie, no damage, no long lasting stain on your reputation. However, trying to pass the buck to CGC does not sit well. I hope you consider this and reply with how the turnaround time for you reached over a year. Thanks for considering.
  15. It's fine, don't worry about it. It's simply the inner well pressing against the outer well, two plastics creating a rainbow effect. If it's an older design you can get rid of it by sliding an envelope, or something like it, into the sides of the case to the rainbow and it will disappear.

I see your point. Good Question. You may have to call CGC to ask this. If you find out, let us know !
  17. Oh yes, I remember seeing the pics. Horrible, gave me nightmares. I still say something else was going on with the safe. Something additional was introduced into the environment. It happened too quickly and the staples were nearly disintegrated to dust. I don't believe anyone else has experienced this in all the years since. I've had a gun safe with comics in it for getting close to 20 years. I keep some staples in an ash tray in the safe to monitor.
  18. So, you are just here to 1) Pimp your books 2) Trying to claim your collection is one of a kind in your sales write up. Disgusting. Please leave and never come back.
  19. Dose it penetrate the cover ? Can you feel it or is it smooth ? It doesn't have the look of a spray, the edges are very pronounced. The edges almost look like wash lines. My guess would be a stain. Sorry.
  20. Cool book and solid otherwise. Curious how you grade a book like this. Wonder if CGC would call it incomplete, missing panels type of thing ?
