  1. Thanks, some sellers honestly don't know about resto, can't detect it. However, with books of this caliber you would hope they get a more experienced friend to take a look. Good luck with your refund process. You are making the right decision !
  2. So someone is selling a large collection without informing buyers about resto. PLEASE let us know the name of the seller so we can avoid, at least avoid from buying anything from this collection. BTW, don't wait to be 100% certain, I would return it now.
  3. I'm not into picture frames but I love this title and cover.
  4. The screening was done by CCS, not CGC. I thought the screening fee gets waived if services for CCS are performed. In this case they were not as the book was transferred to CGC for service. It's only 10 bucks or whatever but I just think you were way off base with your original pressing recommendations here. Books with subscription creases do not benefit from pressing. Thinking you could press them out and get an 8.0 does not show much experience on this topic. Anyway, it appears the OP thinks you are the hero here so we shall Let It Be.
  5. Actually, here's exactly what you said..... 'I think after a dry clean and press to get the bend out of the white areas of the cover... it will get an 8.0 '
  6. What good does a cleaning do ? It's not going to overcome those creases and improve the grade. Actually, the book looked pretty clean anyway.
  7. It's good to hear validation from CCS. Like I thought, this book was not a good candidate for pressing. You only wasted the screening fee. It could have been worse. This obviously says the creases are color breaking and cannot be removed. Hopefully, CCS did not see something worse like restoration. With the creases, I think your book will be graded in the 4.5 to 5.0 range.
  8. No argument, I agree with you. However, I don't think the OP did much homework and was looking to get an E-Bay raw book graded and flip it for profit. His chances of failure are pretty high. Personally, I don't like E-Bay as a venue to buy. I'd rather buy here from my fellow Boardies !
  9. I have never seen anything like this. Distributor spray is usually a small patch on the top edge. This is top, bottom, and sides. Also much thicker than a spray. It looks like it was dipped in paint. I don't know what happened but I suspect, if submitted for grading, it would be hammered. This is not normal. Sorry.
  10. I think we need some pics from the OP, otherwise we are only speculating it is distributor spray.
  11. Save yourself a lot of aggravation, send it back. It's not worth the effort.
  12. I'll Take the Strange Adventures #78 pending pic, if that's okay ? Edit: Saw the pic, I'll Take it, firm !
  13. Sales threads without back cover scans is a pet peeve of mine. Given the fact that it is now so much easier to show a pic on the new boards, I don't understand it. Most of us just want to see if the back cover is 'clean' so a quick phone pic works quite well, no need for multiple close up pics. Given the fact that this site charges no fees at all to the seller, it is befuddling to see some give so little effort to selling here. Anybody that simply states 'the usual rules', without going into detail, is asking for problems. Crazy.
  14. I sincerely hate the fake sale tactic. Usually that tactic is used to 'heat' up a book but this book is already hot.
  15. Depends on the extent. CGC does deduct for too much distributor spray that shows on the cover.
  16. Yes but the census does not show a lot of those copies in high grade. Just looking at the regular Universal copies, there are only 5 9.8's . 191 in 9.0 or higher. 308 in 8.0/8.5 . 394 in 7.0/7.5 and 428 in 6.0/6.5 . With the black cover, most copies did not survive in high grade. BTW, there are 845 copies 5.5 and below. This census is heavily skewed to the lower grades.
  17. In a WTB thread for a high grade FF52, someone said to wait for the book to fall. I made these comments, which I think apply to this discussion. Normally, I would agree with you, but this issue has some special, long lasting appeal to it. In a typical movie scenario the prices spike before the movie and immediately cool off afterward. With this book, the prices seem to be rising more after the movie. I think it was a bigger hit than anyone imagined and there will be more movies coming. It's truly rare in the high grades with that black cover. Just having the opportunity to buy this book in 9.6 would be rare.
  18. I agree. Some folks want to press everything. Often, they don't realize it may not help. I imagine the press will flatten out all the little wrinkles but it most likely won't get rid of that crease, which holds the grade in the 5.0 range anyway. Waste of time and money here.
  19. Nice ! This book has always eluded me. Looks great, congrats !
  20. The system will only give points to the highest 'ranked' book, the duplicate sets will not have any points assigned. Correct ?
