  1. It was in Bolton, to the north of Manchester, during the early 90s. Can't even recall its name now. Very claustrophobic, and the shop reeked a bit. I figured out why - the owner’s dog was farting. Extremely off-putting. I only went back one more time, the dog persisted with its noxious air pollution, and I just gave up and left.
  2. I've recently re-read the Bronze Age Star-Lord magazine and comic stories. Issue 6 is just a retelling of the origin from Marvel Preview 4.
  3. Tenth-rate alien rock. Disaster Area were much better.
  4. The way that even extremely minor first appearances have been speculated upon, it's hardly surprising this issue has risen so much, especially with its cool, tough in high grade, black cover as well. Pretty much inevitable. Not bad for a prototype issue that later got retconned by Alan Moore.
  5. Yup. Image = quilted, 3-ply, aloe vera, luxury quality Marvel = cheapest, roughest, school / prison grade IDW is pretty comfortable as well, I've found.
  6. What about Fin Fang Foom? He's a dragon, and has it ever been established whether these are lizards or some other, separate sub-group of reptile, or, like the Tyrannosaurus Rex, maybe genetically related to modern-day chickens? I'm confused, which is very easy for me.
  7. From what I recall of moderns from the books I was buying up until I quit in 2010, a lot of product arrives at the LCS already in a pre-crumpled state, with internal crushed or crumpled areas being quite common on the thin, crappy-quality paper used.
  8. It’s very useful to know a good roofer. Here in England it’s very rainy and I often have a problem with vegetation clogging up the drainage. That said, it is very disappointing that the company didn’t try to link in a few relevant sales by at least taking along a couple of boxes of Swamp Thing comics.
  9. My favourite. The appearance of an unknown super-speedster who's referred to in the comic as 'Buried Alien'.
  10. Very consistent series, well worth seeing through all the way. Brian K Vaughan is an excellent writer. I haven’t read Saga, but Pride of Baghdad and Ex Machina are good reads as well.
  11. I wouldn't have thought that it would take too long for them to figure out there's considerable retail overpricing and insurance overvaluation going on in this case, maybe facilitated by a lot of online discussion, historical and current.
  12. That reminds me of the smallest comic shop I've ever been in, now defunct, here in the UK. Two shelves, small space in between.
  13. Yup, great bands. Manchester was a miserable place in the 70s and 80s, and so it's amazing that we've given the world so much happy, uplifting music.
  14. Not that obscure for Bronze Age collectors, as it's well-known to contain some really nice Walt Simonson artwork. My favourite issue from that title, featuring one of my favourite characters.
  15. +1 It's understandable and fair that you'd ask questions at this grade and price level.
  16. It’s a shame that he didn’t show any empathy towards the victims of the terrible storm that hit the east coast a few years back. A bit of a double standard here, sorry to say.
  17. Kirby and Ditko were masters at creating dynamic or surreal / intriguing splash pages, respectively, getting their short stories off to a very strong start.
  18. Even Manchester, England. Although, recently I've found a place here which does very tasty, spicy Vietnamese noodle soup. Anyway, we're quite cosmopolitan now, despite our reputation for being unsophisticated barbarians.
  19. Yup. That's what I remember him for the most. One of my favourite Bronze Age characters. Sad news.
  20. The budget option would be to go to the Grand Comics Database website and look at their cover galleries.
  21. Hagg, Son of Shagg. That's the way I would've gone. Missed opportunity.
  22. Walter Simonson's dinosaur signature is recognised as one of the best, and most inventive.
  23. I recall a therapy session once in which I was told that my sloped handwriting indicates someone with low self-esteem. My explanation was that in my case I tend to write with my paper at an angle, which then tends naturally to angle the handwriting as well. That's all.
  24. You got there before me. How I miss "Guess the Cover" games.
  25. IIRC, a former school headmaster heavily into corporal punishment.
