  1. Say if somebody submits a book for a resto check and press to CI and the book gets a clean bill of health and is pressed and subbed for grading, then in the grading process the book is found to have a tear seal and ends up in a PLOD, what would be the fallout of that? The customer (I presume) will have been informed that the book is unrestored prior to grading so will not be happy with a PLOD. Will they then have to pay for resto removal and a regrade?

I'm asking because this has happened before (once that I know of, maybe more?) between the same two parties. I can see this scenario causing all sorts of problems.

Sean mentioned an incident where he had sent in a book to Matt for rest removal to submit for SS, and when it eventually returned from submission it was in a two tone (restored) yellow/purple signature series holder. It happens. I guess each situation will play out differently on the customer complaint handing end of things.

I've heard situations where blue label books were sent in for a CPR or straight sub and were flagged for restoration, meaning CGC missed the resto the first time around.

I think what will be particularly interesting to see play out is the traditional overselling approach of their paper lab shooting too high with grades, clashing with CGC's historically conservative position on grading, and how customers will react when they were promised a certain grade. It's a slippery slope, because when there aren't any complaints (or kept low-key when they happen) it will appear as though the grade fix is in place to help their grading empire retain its sparkle and shine.

If instead the situation worsens (and by this I mean the heightening of work being missed or the temperatures of submitters start rising because the paper lab promised them a certain grade) then the question will become whether it was worth the additional costs/hassle and the negative trickle effect on CGC's reputation for the sake of getting in on the CPR action.

This is where I can see things having a chance of getting messy. If CI missed resto in the past it was down to them and them alone, but now with them being under the same roof as CGC then it will not pay for that sort of mistake to happen. Same in the event of CI predicting the wrong grade prior to pressing a book which then grades out lower than expected. It's no good having a 'pre-service' who promise you one thing when you end up with something different.

  3. Couple of nice books added last week and this.

Good stuff man. Can we pause for a second to say again how lame those ads right on the cover are?

BTW, Court of Owls is a great name. It's making even me want to read it. Any good?

The ads are incredibly lame and really take the shine off some great covers. It did take the shine off landing that book, a nice 1:100 at a good price with a wanky ad banner splashed across the top.

Court of Owls is a great read, Snyder's stuff is really good. It's well worth picking up the back issues or trade for, and I'd recommend getting Nightwing #1 - #9 as it ties in with the story brilliantly.

  4. Just one more reason that you should have been here a length of time and even X number of posts before selling here.

Then I have a question, I bought a comic from someone here that has over 14,000 that was in Sept. He sent the cgc comic broken, I sent it back he said he would have it fixed and sent back. I have sent him a pm and he has not responded and has posted since I sent the pm. Should I nominate him for the list? This all started back in Sept.

    Yes.

  5. Indeed.

I also think buyers should be allowed to back out of deals when Personal is asked for or a percentage added after the deal is agreed, whether its public or private.

If it's asked for, just say no. If it's demanded, then bail on out. :)

I certainly would, but newer members may not as they don't have the feel of the place. I know for a fact that one seller a couple of years ago who asked me for Personal or 4% on top to cover Paypal fees (which I complied to as I didn't really know any better) has recently asked a new member for Personal after a deal was struck. Doing this behind the scenes stinks as it's away from the eyes of other boardies, keeping your sales threads nice and above board but trying to hit buyers with fees behind closed doors.

Asking for Personal is against forum rules as well as Paypal's, so if you haven't got the bollocks to ask for it in public and take the flak, don't do it in PMs after a deal has been struck.

  6. This acquisition strengthens CCG’s commitment to promoting the comic collecting hobby and enhancing the collecting experience by offering a streamlined submission experience and a suite of services that is a win/win for both collectors and dealers.

I'm still struggling to see how this is win/win when it comes to people who want to try the CPR treatment on books that have already been pressed two or three times. I wonder how many people will CPR books only to get the same grades back?

It's hardly showing a commitment to promoting the hobby at all, and how having CI down the hall instead of in Texas enhances the collecting experience is beyond me.

  7. I am a completist and collect all titles from all companies, all ages, all genres.

Recently I have been thinking of narrowing my focus to certain things and actually selling some of my collection to make some space.......just thinking mind.

If you don't, I'd seriously consider moving to a bungalow!

  8. They have, they're just not replying to you.

Oh welcome back! I missed you since your second FDQ exit!

    :)

You'll have to point that one out to me. Good luck in finding it. (thumbs u

You really want me to go back and search for a thread from a few years ago when you where some upset at the board that you announced you were quitting? Please I think your first FDQ was in 2008 or 2009! I really don`t have the time to go search, plus this search function really sucks now.

    hm

Yep I got pissed once over something and decided to do one, I could probably find it for you. Second time? Naa, I just pissed off for personal reasons. No great announcement. It's good to know you pay so much interest in me to know what I was doing two years before you got here though. It's weird but gives me a warm, tingly feeling.

Because I like you,as you add to the board, and also you have the best board name Boozad.

How could I not be interested?
