  1. He wasn’t. He had his flaws, like every human being. He did stupid, inconsiderate things at times, like we all have. This thread has selectively presented anecdotal memories that paint him in a bad light. Take the middle ground - understand that all these creators were indispensable to the formative years of Marvel Comics.
  2. The ‘bash Stan’ agenda gets pretty tiring. There’s no doubt Stan had his sharp edges, and there’s no doubt Stan wasn’t singlehandedly responsible for the rise of Marvel in the 60s, but the thematic flavour of this thread is an overshoot.
  3. Likewise. It lead to more story and character depth. I also miss thought balloons. 5 panel pages of pin-up art, in a decompressed ‘made-for-six-issue-tpb’ story, isn’t as satisfying.
  4. As usual, with great comics, it was a fusion of words and pictures.
  5. I’ve long ago learned to give Ditko and Kirby enormous respect for their contributions to early Marvel characters and stories. It makes me somewhat sad to think there’s a good chance Steve and Jack never understood that veteran comic book fans know that they were co-creators of these wonderful characters.
  6. Posting actual sales isn't pumping, at least to me...
  7. There's always the sense they're undervalued, because classic artist, fondly remembered time and run - but, no, as you say, they're everywhere... That's why value is always a function of supply AND demand. In this case, the supply will keep these books' value down.
  8. The real Green Goblin's proper story arc ended with his death in ASM 122. Shame on Marvel for bringing him back.
  9. Somewhere, there's a perfectly appropriate OCD thread for this line of thinking...
  10. Except that it wasn't . . . ever. I think it probably fell into the category of ‘unloved key’ for many years, certainly from the end of the MoKF run, until the Marvel movie hype years. Junk is a bit too harsh a term, but it’s a book you could ask for and receive from dealers a significant Sunday discount at shows.
  11. How is anyone supposed to believe global warming exists, when it’s always so shilly in here...?
  12. They do go back and reprint them, but printings are done in chunks, and so when the print run is sold out through the distributor level, after a while, prices start to climb. As an example, ASM Omnibus vol 1 was reprinted, and so its price is reasonable, but Vols 2 and 3 fetch a premium, having not been reprinted. I think Thor Vol 1 and Silver Surfer sell at a significant premium, as do the two Claremont/Lee X-Men volumes.
  13. No, that would be the 50s. Especially a certain genre. Ironically, shots fired.
  14. 66? You could pass for 46. Thanks for the update. Good to hear you’re well.
  15. Drop me a PM. Looking to sell some stuff, would be happy to give you a favorable price.
  16. Yeah, all that, except the listing description says it's NM/M. I suppose that`s a hair that could be split. It does tend to alienate potential posters, though, as you can see by donut withdrawing his post. It`s not like there was a rusted staple or sub crease.
  17. What exactly is " high grade " ? I see many flaws... `High grade` encompasses grades other than 9.8. That`s a point that`s been lost on modern slab collectors. It seems facetious to say that high grade is `higher than mid grade`, but that`s the truth of the matter. Traditionally, that transition been seen to happen in the VF range. The above book is high grade. Also, mods, can you sweep up the old thread and unlock it, please.
  18. Store variants are included in the Comichron order numbers. Double Ships arent, since they are freebies and not ordered by stores. How often have these freebie overships been happening over the last couple of years? I know of a few examples. Any B+M store owners here to answer?
