I have not put any of those out at shows yet, but I have been moving #509s fast at $10 apiece. I will be stickering #256s at $20 or $25 for the local October and November shows. What is that, like 48 cents US...? The glory days of having an above par dollar are gone. The trade off is getting a 30%+ exchange rate kicker when selling online.

It just hasn't been a relative title for years. I hope the show changes that, villains in DD have always been more on the lame side. Daredevil, with a few notable exceptions, has always been on the lame side Easy, now... DD's probably had the best stories of any mainstream character over the last 15 years, from the Bendis run, into Brubaker, and then Waid. Perhaps, but before that it was mostly junk. Daredevil has to rank as the #1 most unecessary major(?) character in the Marvel universe. The Marvel Universe would not be diminished had DD never been created I'll bite. DD has more consistent, and better stories, over the life of the character than Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America, to name a few. In fact, I'd put 'Born Again' near the very top of all Marvel Universe stories, and the first Miller run takes a back seat to few others as well. Oh, and yes, overall, DD's villains are lame, and Typhoid Mary is cringeworthy.

One of my favorite "epitome of the '90s" books but I thought it was a $3 to $5 book. It is a 3-5 dollar book, I have asked about this book before as some sales have seemed suspicious in the past. It is an easy $10 sale at shows, sometimes $15. It has two things even casual comic fans like - Venom and foil. Why do your posts always make it seem like Alberta (or just Edmonton?) is entirely populated by drooling who somehow have money? In the days of $100 oil, it was. We'll see how it is at the Edmonton Expo in September, with the downturn in the economy. There is (was) a marked difference between the Alberta shows, and Central Canada Comic Con, which Ive attended for the last two years, mainly to arbitrage the difference.

In the end there may not ever be an official designation of 90's books that are 20+ years old but there will be a generalization of what era they lean towards. Although the term atomic age was created for the 50's books the general trend is to lump them into golden age. If you are one that believes there was a gap between the silver and bronze age almost everyone refers to very early 70's as bronze age. Gaps between ages usually get blended into one age or the other. It is slowly appearing that 90's will be considered more copper than modern and as they get older and older it will probably continue that way. It'll be interesting to watch. I'm one who agrees that the death of Superman delineates the end of the Copper age, leaving most of the 90s undesignated, and orphaned between copper and modern.

Yeah, I agree. It seems odd to talk about 20 year old books as moderns. Historically, what has happened in the hobby is that a new term for that time frame has been coined as time marches on, and a gap is produced between the last designated age, and 'moderns'. That has yet to happen for the '90s era.

Or, sell, roll the profit into other hot books, flip them, repeat, and buy a copy later if you want to after it actually shows whether there is any staying power. Either approach will work. With most of the modern hot books, the pattern is sell at the early peak, buy a few years later when they have dropped in value, accumulate at lower prices, then wait for the run up again while continuing to roll over the initial profit. A master class in modern spec management.

Probably not, although some ultra-high-grade copies of Giant-Size X-Men #1 might give Hulk 181 a good run. You've missed the last couple of years, where the board literalists will not tolerate 181 being called 'first appearance', despite the fact it's come to be hobby shorthand for whichever book the hobby has chosen to collect as most important to a character's introduction.

I'm curious as to how you come up with your prices. Do you keep raising the number until you get to a point where no one reasonable would pay it? Not being facetious here. Obviously there are enough unreasonable people out there for this strategy to make money, as you like to remind us in the heating up threads. In divad's defence, he does put up extremely large scans, that allow the buyer to well judge the book for themselves. I don't necessarily agree with all of his grades, but he is a dramatic step above the average eBay seller, where 'NM' nets you an 8.0-8.5 copy. I wasn't even commenting on his grading here (as this issue seems to be in really decent shape), but rather just on how he decides on prices. Many of the results he posts don't seem to be based on other sales of the issue, and the numbers seem somewhat random. He gets outlier prices. My suspicion is that this is a reflection of how bad grading is on eBay on average.

+1 As noted, NM 98 is the first appearance of the character. X-Force 8 is the first appearance of the 'true' Domino. From here, the market can decide what that distinction is worth.

There really has been a disconnect. I remember getting a $5 allowance, which could allow me to buy 10 50c comics. Now, at $3.99 average, a kid would need a $40 allowance.

I look at keys as A-list, B-list, C-list, etc There are a ton of minor keys out there, that I usually qualify as such.

The market's opinion will hinge on possible movie appearances, and which Nova would get the nod.
