  1. The TV show announcement was timed perfectly for me. I had my CGC 9.2 W undercopy up in the Clink August auction - it ended at $3555, which is more than what I paid for my CGC 9.4 W ($3360) last fall. This summer was a good one for Marvel Bronze Age 12 month or shorter spec plays due to all of the SDCC and D23 announcements. Since the SA and BA are getting fairly tapped out now, it is likely the CA and Modern Marvel keys that will offer the best spec plays for next year. While I expect the FF and X-Men franchises to see plenty of announcements over the next couple of years, the prices have already had a major spec jump on the SA and BA keys from those runs.
  2. How long will it be until there are sales of CGC 9.8 #1s at $1000 again?
  3. Wow. Nice OA. I have never read the story but will need to check it out now.
  4. Looks like New Teen Titans Annual #2 could be movin on up if this is true: https://fullcirclecinema.com/2019/09/30/idris-elba-vigilante-james-gunn-suicide-squad/
  5. I admire his courage in going out on a limb re: Cate Blanchett as Joker in the Reeves' movies.........
  6. Interesting. Pre-spec hype or are there new rumors floating around?
  7. Let's hit someplace else one night. How does Rostizado downtown sound - cuban/mexican food - in the Mercer Building?
  8. Clobberin Time Comics is in booth 803 this year for the show.
  9. The only question is whether TMNT and/or comic collectors will care enough to continue to pay a premium for it.
  10. Good move. While current retail books sell at shows, it is one of those sell the first week/month or be stuck with them type of market now. Maybe we are in the waning stages of the current spec bubble, just like 1993/94 was way back when. That being said, Artgerm cover B variants still sell well at 2-3x cover, and there is a decent market for JSC exclusive covers - some of the early ones are tough to find now.
  11. The only character that matters is X-O. When are they going to move on that?
  12. One Copper that is starting to be asked for again after being ice cold for a year or two after the Gambit movie project died at Fox is UXM 266. It is not heating up yet, more like signs of the start of a thaw, but there is a bit of demand for it again. Now may be a time to lock in a copy or two due to the Disney deal since prices have pulled back
  13. They can be savage with tears at staples that are that bad, and even worse with spine splits.
  14. No anti-CBC bias here as I grew up on Wayne & Schuster and HNIC, but I have not watched anything non-sports related from that station in a decade or two. Good to see they have something worthwhile now.
  15. I see he is on some Kim's Convenience show on CBC? That is why I have no clue who he is. Who watches anything on CBC now?
  16. The tears are at the staple, right? If yes, the cover still attached? In any case, 5.0 - 5.5 depending on the grader if it is attached. Detached would put it lower.
  17. True enough. That being said, past performance of keys has pretty much held true in collectibles for the past 30 years I have been collecting. What was key then is still key now, and those books have outpaced the others in price gains over time. FWIW, there are better books to buy than either Hulk issue now. The time to load up on them was the start of 2018.
  18. Based on the price drop of #180 in 9.4 over the year, the tide may be receding now.........
  19. What grade for Hulk 180s and what time frame? If you bought CGC 9.4s ($2400) at the start of this year you are down $300-$400 per copy. Buying Hulk 181 CGC 9.4 at the same time would have you with a $600-$800 profit. Doing the math, 4 x CGC 9.4 180s at a loss of $300 per copy based on current prices = $1200 net loss, while buying one CGC 9.4 copy of Hulk #181 for the same amount would have generated a small profit under this scenario. If we go back to Jan 2018, then Hulk #181 CGC 9.4 was a $5300-$5400 book (and I am still kicking myself at passing on two W page copies at that price in March 2018). So let's say you buy 2 copies for $10,500. At the same time, Hulk #180 CGC 9.4 was a ~$1000 book (some sales higher, some lower) so you could buy 10 copies for $10,500. At the current prices, you would net ~$1100 per copy of CGC 9.4 of Hulk #180 = $11,000 profit, while the Hulk #181 would have netted around $5,200 per copy based on current prices for a net total of $10,400. In this case, the Hulk #180 CGC 9.4 barely wins out. Going forward, unless the market suddenly shifts to Hulk #180 as the first appearance of Wolverine, then you are likely better off with Hulk #181 IMHO as #180 will only run up when #181 jumps further.
  20. Thanks to a recent purchase, I will have an early X-Men - 400ish (no 1-4, though as they are going in for slabbing) run at the show. It will be the first time some of these books have seen the light of day since the 1980s.
