  1. Wow...you are correct. Getting a bit old. Dont worry we can start a 36 years old club... we can be the first two members..and it's not old.. For us younger board members it is.
  2. I think this copy should be valued for $1900-2400. (thumbs u Not with LT/OW pages IMHO. I would not pay more than $2000.
  3. Ouch. That PQ should hold the price back quite a bit.
  4. Better snag your copies of GL #5, #7, and #16 as well right now, before it is too late. I like this exchange picture. If a collector or investor had held on their SC22 for the last 9 months, he or she would have a nice 200% increase at the current market today. For now, I think I will hold on to all my copies for 10-20 years and see what happens. Fixed that for you
  5. Better snag your copies of GL #5, #7, and #16 as well right now, before it is too late.
  6. Metropolis, Heritage, Comic Connect, Detective27kid, Harley Yee, Comic Link, Ebay, auctions houses and dealers has sold multiple copies of this book since July 2009. As we speak, we are witnessing descent prices for all low grade copy and especially high grade copies. Dealers are aware that SC22 is in high demand and collectors and investors want to own this book. The 8.0 Mound City copy will set the tone for the high grade copies. I think copies under 4.0 has very little upside in the short term. On the other hand, supplies are scarce for copies 5.5 and above. i think any copy is hard to come by....especially when anything available is being bought up...by us. if you could buy a af15 raw at 10-15 years ago prices....think about that... the supply vs demant is just not there...i just bought 6 raw books from obscure stores across the county....there are only so many books available....i called 150 stores for 6 books. So a lot of the small shops that specialize in new books have no clue, which kind of confirms my experience. My shop did not have one but the owner has no clue this board exists. He is barely aware of CGC and thinks they are only for mail order. He thinks his 7.0-8.0 bronze age books are high grade but he does a good business, made it through the 90s bust and is having the best year in his existence. So SC22 is not on his radar. I just missed out on a VG-/VG copy for $900 that a major dealer was looking at snagging for me form one of his LCSs, so there are still deals out there to be had if you can find them.
  7. I don't know if they will go for quite a bit more in 2.0 or 2.5, but there should be a bit of a premium for graded copies. It looks like 4.0 and up is the sweet spot.
  8. Glad I snagged that old label 4.0 from Rick a couple of weeks back before his new gouging, err pricing, kicks in..........................
  9. It will be interesting to see how they do. Are we the only ones paying high $$$ for the book right now?
  10. I bought it as an 8.0/8.5 from a reputable dealer/grader, but I would give it a 7.5 personally due to the corner tip chips. That being said, it is comparable to a few 10 cent Flash issues I graded a couple of years back that came in between 8.0 and 9.0 even with corner tip chips. In any case, the price was right so it is not a big worry. Is anyone going after the CGC 8.5 GL #5 in the Heritage Sunday auction?
  11. Here are the first two late August purchases to arrive. The Batman #121 is a decent mid grade copy that would grade higher but it had an impact of some kind at the bottom staple that did a bit of damage (staple fully attached, but has a couple of tiny tears and is bent).
  12. I just put my 3.5 OW up on Ebay with a BIN (at the last 4.0 high price) to see what kind of attention it gets. I didn't plan on selling it but I have 2 copies so I figured I would see what happens. Should be interesting... -William keep us posted if it sells... I am going to add the "make offer" to mine, to see what kind of offers I get Where are you putting yours Rick ? good question... I guess I will start off on ebay, with the BIN /best offer function... naturally, any boardie that wants to make an offer, feel free... these were purchased with full intent to resell...so sorry with the sales pitch Rick gets flooded with lowball boardie offers in 5.....4......3.....2.....1......
  13. And there are probably a few other DC SA keys that are undervalued right now and due for a run up sooner than later. Buy them now before it is too late. (thumbs u
  14. and 192 graded copies of showcase #4 and that book is still deader than disco. I dunno, I thought this was a healthy price for a 4.5 Wow. I don't think that SC #22 will hit that level in 4.5, but if it does then anyone with a copy now will be
  15. I agree that SC #4 is still a significant book, but it is sort of the FF #1 of the DC Silver Age with SC #22 is turning into the AF #15. That being said, without the early success of SC #4 we would not have seen the return of the super-hero book to prominence until a later date (if at all). Remember, it was not until B&B #28 that Marvel finally got off its butt and came out with FF #1.
  16. and 192 graded copies of showcase #4 and that book is still deader than disco. until a flash movie comes out Possibly in census numbers, but I don't see as big a gain in prices. The Flash seems to be a little less compelling of a character than GL (and I was a big Flash fan during the Waid run). Even the Johns/Van Sciver Flash Rebirth is doing a bit worse than expected from what I have heard. The other thing working against SC #4 is that it is an expensive book to start with? SC #22 is just catching up to its price levels, so it will be harder to move substantially from where it currently sits.
  17. A year ago, maybe. Now? There are more Showcase 22's for sale than you can shake a stick at. huh a year ago, there were like 50+ copies of SC 22 in the market for sale (mostly low grade)..and they were virtually ALL there week after week after week (I know, because I did daily searches looking for a nice copy for me)...you couldn't turn around without tripping over a dozen of them ...today, I can't even find 5 with a fair amount of looking (one on metro, a super low grade), none on clink, 1 auction on ebay (lower grade), the 5.5 recent ebay auction....none on comic connect, or payette, or any other major dealer site and if one is posted, as someone stated above, it is snatched up almost immediately!!! true, we have traded a bunch of copies on this board, but virtually every copy at SDCC this year was scooped up (at least 30 or so that I saw)... and, yes, I did see about a dozen+ at chicago, but I am sure by now, they are long absorbed... right now, there is virtually NO supply of SC 22 for sale, compared to a year ago...and demand is at a fever (whether justified or not, hype or true demand, etc) Exactly. I can remember passing on 4.0s - 5.0s last year for $600 - $800 in the hopes of finding a nicer copy. I e-mailed every advertiser in the OSPG last month and all I could find were three copies - a CGC 3.0 I snagged for piper, one in GD and a so called VG- that was really a GD if not a bit worse. That is it. My guess is that the 5.0 and better copies are tied up in private collections and will hopefully start to surface next year as prices rise to the point that it makes sense for long time collectors to sell them.
  18. For me, yes, although a couple of times my daughter fell you could tell it hurt from her wince.
  19. I'm back. Had to work late on a report and then run to take the kids to skating lessons.
  20. Congrats, Rick! Good call on not selling it to one of us at the SDCC at the grade and price point we thought it was at.
  21. Have all of the SC #22 subs crashed the systems at CGC?
  22. So, which one of you guys bought it to flip?
  23. And the retell of the origin by Geoff Johns made it an even better story. (thumbs u
  24. You are definitely speaking for yourself here.
