  1. and might I add, that book has never been pressed (thumbs u I agree. (thumbs u Looks like a great press and flip opportunity in the making..............oh wait, this is not 2009 any longer.
  2. I believe that I was the 6.0 initially thanks to the couple of light stains/smudges and other wear you could see in the scans. At the time CGC was nailing books for stains and even dust shadows, but it appears that they have loosened up again. It ebbs and flows - you just have to hope that when you submit your books you hit the "right" graders at the right time.
  3. Exactly. It looks much better in the small scans they posted that it did with the large ones on the auction site. I could not believe it was an 8.0 to start with either. 8.5 now.. Sure, but this one, along with quite a few of the other MC books, was a gift grade. Definitely need to buy the book and not the label with any of the MC copies.

  5. Thanks. I definitely was not expecting to win it, but I thought I might as well put in a bid since it was going for just $1K when I first saw it. This will be held until the GL movie now, I think. The person who bought the Mound Copy lost some money. Even though the down market hurt this copy a bit, I wonder if we are finally starting to see resistance to know press and quick flip books now?

  7. Well, looks like my stink bid on the 4.0 got me back in as a member of the club tonight. I was debating whether to bid or not, but the OW pages did the trick. BTW, any comments on the price for the 8.5 copy? Rick, was this the one you sold for $35K?
  8. It will be interesting to see if the Rocky Mountain Collection GL run that Clink has scheduled for the March auction can hit the same type of highs that the Marvel books did last year in light of the current market.
  9. you would have to self host or upgrade to a paid photobucket account With all that $$ he's going to get from that GL1 that shouldn't be a problem. I bet that is what tim is waiting on Or one of the 8.0 big books for sale this month. (thumbs u
  10. The edge crimp is an easy defect to press out, but the spine crease might be a bit too big for a 9.6. I have had 9.6s in the past with color breaking dings, but not that noticeable. In any case, the new owner might as well keep it as the lone 9.4 for now unless another 9.4 or a 9.6 pop up on the census.
  11. We're more interested in the daily movements of the 9.4 GL #1 on Heritage. (thumbs u I think the GL1 9.4 will sell between 40K-55K...what do I know. I think it might go higher, but we will all know in a few days. I guess we will find out in less than ten days if the GL1 9.4 will be worth more than a SC22 9.0. I doubt it. The bigger question in my mind is whether this book ends up resurfacing as a 9.6 in short order.

  13. Currently a 4.0 would run around $1300-1500 and a 5.0 $2500-3000. Copies with off-white pages add 10%. Copies with off-white/white pages add 15%-25%. Copies with white pages xxx???. Copies that are 6.0+ command a little extra. (thumbs u I think that 5.0s are more in the $2300 - $2700 range now depending on PQ. Your 3.0 is a $900 - $1000 book, but since it was a nice old label copy you might be able to get a bump up to 3.5 on a resub based on the recent 3.5 copies we have seen on the market. (thumbs u

  15. Looks like it is getting close to a good time to start venturing into the market again.
  16. I agree. Looks more like a 9.2 to me as well. All kidding aside, good luck with the sale, Tim. Here's hoping it hits someplace around $100K for you.
  17. Still here, but since I sold off my last copy a couple of months back I have not been as active in this thread.
  18. The assigned grade will be for the inner cover, but they used to include a note on the label saying something like "Outer cover X.X, inner cover X.X" if I recall correctly. I have not subbed a double cover for a long time now.
  19. Wow. The prices on this book in mid grade continue to amaze me. Just send it in to CGC and see what the result is. Who knows, you might end up with a higher grade on the interior cover.
  20. Was the eBay 3.0 from Greg one of the books that Martin sold here a week or so ago?
  21. I acquired and flipped multiple copies of SC #22 in the 3.0 - 5.0 range last year and did very well. (thumbs u Prices have pulled back on it now so I am hoping that a nice 6.0+ copy will be more affordable later this year or even next year after the movie hype dies down (especially if it flops at the box office) WRT to the regular GL series, I think that there is definitely some room for the non-keys to move up but after #10 they are not difficult to find in HG and there is not huge demand for them (great Gil Kane artwork, but crummy 60s DC stories). Look at the 9.4 GL #11, as a good example. The only issues that continue to hold up relatively well are the keys and hard to find in HG issues like #18. GL #7 has always been in a class of its own since it is so tough to find in any grade, and prices have now started to adjust to reflect this. However, I think that the Mound City prices might stay as highs for a while now since most of the books (excluding the #7 that a boardie snagged) were snapped up by a determined/overzealous GL collector that went there specifically for that run. As far as this year goes, I think we may be starting to see another plateau and correction in the market across the board (except for GA and other uber keys). Prices have been going up for HG books for a long time now, and with the current economic conditions I would not be surprised if we see a bit of a pull back in prices like we did in 2002. The only question will be how fast the speculative money exits once the first hint of price drops starts.
  22. There is a limited group of HG SA DC collectors to start with, and when one of us sells off their books that is one fewer bidders to drive up the prices. However, I think it is more due to the current economic situation than anything. Last fall we had a lot of great books come up for sale in the numerous auctions and with collectors likely tightening their belts this had to happen sooner or later. I am just going to stick with my GL #7 for now, and add a replacement copy of SC #22 and GL #1 later this year. No need to get any non-key books from the looks of things.
  23. Well, the GL books in tonight's Clink auction, including four of mine, did not do very well at all (reposted here from Comics General): Wowsers. other than the adams issues- GL looked deader than a doornail Unfortunately, they were. I sold my 8.0 copy of GL #8 for $450 in December within 2 days of posting it on Clink, but my 9.0 (soft 9.0 in my opinion - should have been 8.5 at best) only fetched $593. I should have just listed it on the site instead. I also had the 9.0 #15 (lost money on it), 9.0 #18 (made money) and 8.0 #20 (break even but bought it as a higher grade originally). Looks like the demand for GL is primarily with SC #22, GL #1, GL #7, GL #16, GL #18 and GL #76 right now. Looks like some of the froth is off of the market for now.
  24. The CC copy was crm/ow, so you can say it's the highest price ever paid for a 5.0. must have had some "potential" It did not look like it from the scans (soft 5.0 to start with if I recall correctly), but depending on who bought it there might have been an upgrade.
