Those were the time to back up the truck. You did just that. (thumbs u With all the activity recently, I sense prices will rise before the movie and make new price records. I have not sold any of my 5.0+ holdings...just don't have the heart to. There has been been less than ten copies entered into the census this year for a total of 298. Can you see the potential of Showcase 22 everyone.?...I do. True enough, but I only bought 2 copies. I should have snagged a few more. That former Mound copy is a good buy now. You always strike it with comics...maybe more will come your way. (thumbs u Only if you crack it and resub it without the Mound City label. Right now there is a stigma associated with easily recognized cracked and pressed upgrade books. Must be a sign that either the number of collectors chasing books is too small to support that practice any longer AND/OR pressing awareness is up and the collecting public has voted with their $$$.

Can you see the potential of Showcase 22 everyone.?...I do. I did an analysis on it compared to other major Silver Age Super heroes first appearances, it has the second least graded, Showcase # 4 i believe is first. This comparison has also included Marvel first appearances. That's right. Showcase 4 is about 30% less available than SC22, but SC22 stampedes SC4 in demand. Mid 50's to early 60's DCs are much more scarce than Marvels. On the other hand, Marvel has captured a larger audience to absorb all the supply. With the spike of Green lantern's popularity recently, he ranks among the top DC characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. (thumbs u I would say there are only two top DC characters right now - GL and Batman. Wonder Woman has waned, and the big blue cheese is not as potent as he used to be.

FWIW, maybe the January - March lows were the time to load up on a few extra copies?

Raw 4.0 copy
-
Now that the convention season has started again we might see the next leg up. At this rate, I would not be surprised to see a starting point close to $2,000 for 4.0 copies next year closer to the movies. FWIW Metropolis has a graded 4.0 on their site at $1900, and a raw 4.0 (looks more like a 3.0/3.5 based on the scan) at $1600.
-
Is that a tear in the bottom right corner? If yes, I think 3.5/4.0 is more likely than 4.5, but still a steal of a deal at a sub $1K price. (thumbs u

Great pick up and welcome to the club! (thumbs u

Thanks. I wasn't pushed to sell it but I feel it's the right thing to do for the misses, fam, etc. I mean, how many misses would let us purchase a super key AF15? I had to work on this one. We're both in the prime earning years of our lives so we're a-saving & a-spending. She just remodeled the kid's bedroom so it's give and take. Long and short. I'll 4-ever miss this book but now it's time to get back in the lion pit and hunt a "nice but cheaper" version of a 22. I'm pretty sure there's a LG'er with WPs out there (< 5.0). Am I correct Rich? There is another white pager and it's a 2.5 universal grade. It's probably embedded in someone's collection out there. Maybe it will show up in the future. I wonder what PQ are Aman's copy? Good luck and another copy will be out there for you. I have a 4.0 OW that I would be willing to part with for the right gouging..........err price.

Congrats on the sale! (thumbs u

That sounds cool but I have a feeling that it will be a bit out of my price range. Tell him that Tim Tebow is the greatest college athlete ever and that you are a die hard Gators fan and you should get a decent discount.
-
Thanks. I will be sending it to CGC soon to see what the grade is. Thankfully the chipping is on the back cover.

He's the Joker (Sinestro) for Green Lantern. I see. Given the rising interest in this issue, is it worth picking up in any grade? It's worth it for flipping and if you are looking of 6.0+ it will cost you 4 to 6 times guide. How about 3.0-4.0? $125-175 is a good range. Cool. Thanks for answering my questions. If you want a nice copy, talk to Rick about his 7.5. (thumbs u

He's the Joker (Sinestro) for Green Lantern. In addition, the book is more difficult to find in any grade than probably Showcase #22 as well. It has been selling for a premium to guide for a while now in high grade, and over the past year or two has taken off in lower grades as well since currently there is more demand than supply for it.
-
That's b/c Green Lantern is WAY cooler than Spider-Man Exactly. Spidey is so 2005 now.

GL 7 is a volatile book and prices have been all over the map. I agree, Ebay has a wider audience, and books can be sold more quickly. There are quite a bit of GL fans right now to support the prices. GL 7 will no doubt do well when the GL movie releases, but for the long term, SC22 is a better book. I agree that SC #22 is the better book, but GL #7 can be had for much cheaper due to lack of widespread awareness and represents a better flipping opportunity than SC #22 right now. The lack of awareness on SC #22 ended last August/September.
-
My question re: GL #7 is how high it might go next year closer to the movie. The price on that eBay 3.0 is a shocker, but it might be a better barometer of wider market appeal than Clink or any of the other auction sites. This issue has always been a tough book to find in any shape, and we could see a nice run up again next year closer to the movie. Right now the action on it seems similar to Showcase #22 in that the speculators and longtime collectors that have been sitting on the fence are now snagging a copy before the real hype hits. I will pizz myself laughing if 3.0s hit $500 next year, but it does not seem as far fetched of an idea now.

that is right in my $100 a point scale... good find (thumbs u That is insane. Looks like I need to scour the net for low grade copies to slab and flip now.

As Rick said, keep your eye out for dealers that are note aware of the current market. I landed this copy for $75 from one who runs banner ads on the boards a couple of months ago:

kimik...if you look carefully on the right bottom side there is a light crease, otherwise this book has a shot a 6.5-7.0. I seen many SC22 and the PQ on this copy is blazing fresh and the texture is utmost remarkable. I was just kidding. It is a great looking copy with white pages. (thumbs u Hey kimik, are you still planning to upgrade a copy when the right copy comes along? Not in the near term. I have another place I am putting my money right now. This is why I let the SC #22 CGC 2.0 go for so cheap - time is off the essence to raise last minute funds.

You have first dibs... (thumbs u Looks like a solid 5.0. (thumbs u

I'm beginning to wonder if many of the 22s had poor paper upon printing them in '59... there's just too many 22s with PQ < OW... The collector community knows that the average SC22 PQ is cream-off white. From seeing all the CGC graded copies out there, I came up with these percentage. Yes, someone cut the wrong tree to print Hal Jordan's first appearance. light tan to off-white <3% cream to off-white pages 45-55% off-white pages 30-35% off-white to white pages <3% white pages <1% Amazing stats !! Where's the Boardie who said DCs are plentiful with nice PQ ?? Was it Tim (tth2) ? Must have only been the JLAs and LOSH Adventure issues that nobody wanted so they sat in the dark in warehouses.

I have a CGC 2.0 undercopy that I can part with. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Sorry to hear that. I hope that you recover fast and are back up and about asap.
