  1. I agree. The coloring actually does more harm than good.
  2. I have received a message from CGC and the signed #251 should have been given a GLOD as well. I will probably send it in for relabelling with my next submission.
  3. They don't (CGC) recognize sigs unless they are witnessed actually by a CGC official , and treat it as "writing on the cover" , ....or somthin like that ................. .... crappy explanation hooks They probably thought the 245 was a 9.0 expect for a major defect. I think I lucked out with with the blue label on the signed #251, but I am not going to complain about it! These two were bought from Mike/drbanner and there was an ad in the back of each mylar for a signing at Mid-Town comics (can't remember the date).
  4. And this crummy 3 book submission
  5. I dropped by Fedex yesterday morning after my week in San Diego and I had two boxes waiting for me: Group 1: 30 Value Fasttrack Submissions
  6. I think when you take into consideration your upper-level pricing, time saved, no slabbing fees, no shipping back and forth to CGC, I think you come out just fine. My WHAT??? See that 'Tec #294, the 9.6 one? Sold as a 9.0 for $35 when Guide was $42. The #396 and #397? Both sold for under Guide. WTF you talking 'bout, Willis? Let's look at this from a $$ perspective: 1) Cost to ship to CGC from UK = ~$60/30 books = $2/book 2) Grading cost for 30 under value fast track (which these qualified for and assuming you had others to submit) = $26.10 / book (with 10% discount) 3) Return shipping cost = ~$100/30 books = $3.33/book or lets say $4 rounded up (guessing on the high side due to increased weight and size of box) 4) Amount of time to pack books, fill in forms, receive box = 3 hours with beers x $30/hr wage = $90/30books = $3/book Total additional cost per book = $35.10 Assuming Nick's cost is what I paid, here is what his total cost per book would be: Detective Comics 394 VF/NM $35.00 + $35.10 = $70.10 Detective Comics 395 VF+ $85.00 + $35.10 = $120.10 Detective Comics 396 VF+ $28.00 + $35.10 = $63.10 Detective Comics 397 VF+ $50.00 + $35.10 = $85.10 Total in: $338.40 Here are the latest GPA recorded sales for these books in the grades I received: Detective Comics #394 9.6 - $375 in April 2008 Detective Comics #395 9.0 - $251 in Jan 2008 Detective Comics #396 8.5 - $36.88 in Feb 2004 ( Nick you would have gotten hosed on this one ) Detective Comics #397 9.2 - last 9.0 sold for $107.50 in Oct 2005 (last 9.2 sold for $51 in Sep 2002) Total estimated sales value: $770.38 Cheers for that, Ryan. Somehow it's made me feel both better and worse at the same time. Sorry, Nick. BTW, PM me a list of books you are posting in the VCC this weekend.
  7. True enough, but since he has been good to me I do not mind enabling him to reap the benefits of being a tight grader with higher sales prices on the boards. (thumbs u

  9. Slowpoke I guess it pays to be on the ball at the VCC!
  10. I just called for an update on a value submission with the expectation that they would not be finished until late next week, but CGC has already graded them! (thumbs u I was expecting most of the books to be 9.0 at best, but had some nice surprises in the mix. Here are the results, with my expected grade (in parentheses), and the sellers are noted if I can remember them. As you can see, the grading from fellow board members is very tight! 11. Regardless of who BZ's secret identity is, all I can say is thank you for deciding to share your collection with us!
  12. OMG .... <3 (thumbs u Gorgeous copy as expected! (thumbs u I have heard rumors that BZ uses copies like mine for reading in the bathroom/bathtub.
  13. Son of a bi... THAT'S IT!!! CONGRATULATIONS Thanks Bangzoom - now can we see your much higher grade copy of the book?
  14. Not a guess at all, but that is the NMish copy I just snagged this week in the photo! The reason I recognized it right away is I went over the car window/top with the green like a hawk on my copy to make sure the color bleed through on the front cover was from staining and not a color touch.
  15. It looks like Detective Comics #28 to me......
  16. Someone else is going to have to post them because I sold off my copies years ago to raise money for who knows what. Hmm.....I guess that means that I will have to buy some instead of the More Funs and post them.
  17. Thanks! Frazetta is the king of sci-fi/fantasy covers IMHO.
  18. Nice Book! After seeing this, I have request from you or BZ - please post some of the Frazetta Famous Funnies Buck Rogers covers if you have them. (thumbs u
  19. The copy currently on eBay for BIN $999 of the VG/FN in the Heritage auction?
  20. I'll post a bunch of 1934 and 1935 Weird Tales covers in the next week or two. (thumbs u There are nine issues where a Conan story made the cover, only three of which actually have Conan himself. Usually it is just the nude or semi-nude damsel of the story in some sort of lesbo-bondage scene. I can picture a group of kids going to a newstand in the 30s and having to make a decision - Ugly barbarian or half naked hottie in bondage scene - tough choice!
  21. You need to be internet savvy to respond, so that limits things a bit. I know my parents (58 and 60) and my in-laws (60 and 57) do not do much, if anything, on the net except for checking their e-mail. In addition, how many households still do not have internet access?
  22. I'll post a bunch of 1934 and 1935 Weird Tales covers in the next week or two. (thumbs u Excellent! I look forward to seeing more of your pulps up close. (thumbs u
  23. BZ, can you post the Queen of the Black Coast cover? This should be Conan's first cover appearance (1934 or 1935 issue - blue cover with a winged dude attacking Conan and a damsel in distress if I recall my copy correctly). There were not too many Conan covers, although I can't really complain as I would prefer to look at the Brundage Babes instead of some barbarian on the covers. (thumbs u
  24. Definitely. (thumbs u Now all we need is for him to set up a website and to start selling his Conan OA.
  25. Great collection! Do you have any of the Gnome HCs or some of the early WT pulps? Please post scans of anything you have.
