  1. Hm could still see 9.2/9.4 but depends on how they treat the gripper holes. If they deem them bigger than normal (whatever that is) or altered it'll definitely knock it a bit. Gripper holes are common on this issue I think, so I'd scope some graded copies in the same range on eBay or MCS to compare. Good way to get a grasp of what's allowed/not allowed in certain grades for certain books when it comes to manufacturing defects.
  2. Yeah the yellow rim scares me a bit...I'll say 8.0 cus the back cover and corners look so nice, but I'm not entirely sure how much that strip will affect grade
  3. This popped up recently and was curious what y’all think it could be…pencil mark? Pen mark? Scratch? Printer crease? Don’t have book in hand, but I’m intrigued. Book looks otherwise very clean.
  4. Some of those defects (#5 and 7) seem pressable, and normally I'd say looks like a good candidate for a C&P buuut honestly with that tear and the other defects I think 8.0 is very good for this book to begin with. Would be hard-pressed to get an 8.5 or higher I think. That said, if you don't care about the grade and just want it to present better I'd say go for it! Could smooth it out and clean up the whites a bit to make it present better. I'm getting my own 7.0 C&P'ed and resubbed for mostly presentation reasons--any bump would be gravy but I wouldn't be heartbroken if it came back the same. Just my opinion though, I'm sure others with more experience could speak better to this. Nice book regardless!
  5. Hey all! Actually been on here a couple months now, but for some reason never noticed this section before. Like many in my generation, I collected comics as a kid from around 1993ish to around 2000, before I kind of lost interest (or rather other interests took hold, as they do). Some of my best memories from that time are going to the local LCS in rVA with my brother and snagging the latest Venom or Fantastic Four or whatever crossover story was the flavor of the day. Occasionally would pick up a comic here and there on a whim for the next two decades, but mostly stuck to reading trades. Fast forward to this year when stumbled across my old beat up collection of worthless (and priceless) 90’s books at my folk’s house. Sparks reignited, etc etc, I finally decided to grade and sell some keys I randomly purchased a decade prior…and thus fell into the wormhole of this community! Been mostly diving back into trades from my library as far as reading goes, but I’ve always been interested in the collecting and speculating aspects of comics too. The hard part will be deciding what to keep for my PC and what to sell… Probably more than anyone wanted to know, but regardless, it’s been awesome spending time rooting around these forums! Psyched to spend more time here.
  6. Only one book for me for the Frank Miller/Klaus Janson signing (no CCS), but was received 3/29 and listed as scheduled for grading 3/30–crazy fast!
  7. Yeah, you're probably not getting above a 9.2 with that TLBC crease
  8. As a rule, I'd say never expect 9.9 or 10.0, and never rule out 9.6 on a book that looks like a shoe-in 9.8. When valuing my books pre-grading, I generally cap a book at a 75% chance for a 9.8, even when it looks extremely clean and I can't find anything. Helps dull the pain of the inevitable 9.6 that I thought was a sure-fire 9.8 lol. If you never expect a 9.8, you can't lose, amiright? Good luck, though! A 9.9/10.0 must feel amazing when it happens
  9. Echoing what others have said, the straining/foxing on the BC and the CB crease on the FC probably cap this at 7.5, even with a C&P. That said...I don't think a 7.5 is out of the question, as a lot of the other creasing/indents look like good candidates to come out nicely, and the FC presents really nicely.
  10. Suppose I need to test my chops on some lower-grade books at some point...might as well start now! I will say 3.5
  11. I was gonna say 8.0/8.5 because of that indent/scratch thing, but if it truly is a common manufacturing error, then I could see 9.4 with a C&P (even if the C&P won't take the defect out--which it won't--it'll clean up the whites a lot and hopefully smooth out some of the spine creases that look possibly non-color-breaking).
  12. Definitely C&P--a lot of the creasing looks non-color-breaking
  13. I think if this book cleans up, 7.0+ is definitely possible. As is...I'd say yeah, 6.0/6.5 tops. Get a good presser and make sure they clean too--a lot of the dirt and grime, especially over the whites, should come off nicely. And a lot of the creasing looks non-color-breaking. Unfortunately, it looks like a bit of the grime on the BC might be foxing (lower left side), which will not come out. All that said, I think a 7.5 is very possible with a good C&P (8.0/8.5 if what I saw isn't actually foxing and comes off). Good luck!
  14. Hm, I'm a little more bullish on this one personally. Most of the creasing/indents looks to be non-color breaking. Hard to tell, but possibly tanning on the BC? I'll walk myself off a cliff and say 9.2/9.4 if all or most of the creasing/indents come out...
  15. Keep in mind, unless someone says otherwise, these are usually estimations for the book as-is. This looks like a pretty good C&P candidate to me. I'll say 9.0/9.2 post C&P (but I also tend to be a tick or two higher than the seasoned vets on here so I'd err towards their 2 cents over mine).
