Do we have any Pre-Mirage Eastman and Laird collectors? I'm about to purge what I believe is the largest private collection of pre-turtles books, and I would like to put them in the hand of a collector if possible.

Looking at that copy I'd bet the defect is spine split - I thnk you can see it in the auction picture. Silver copies are notorious for that. Mine has it despite being in the original bag for years and hardly ever touched. At least one other I've seen has it (possibly this one). From memory I've only seen one copy that didn't have it.
Yep...100% right on this. I just recently got one of my Silver copies SS graded and it came back with a 6.5 SS. One of the grading notes was, "Left Center Spine Split." Not sure about my other copy though (7.0 Qualified). I bought it pre-graded so I don't have the notes for it.
If you bought that 7.0 from me (I dont recall at this point) then yes, it had a spine split.

As fun as it has been being in the club all these years... we are having a baby! As such I am liquidating a lot!
If anyone is looking for entry into the club, this is certainly a big way to do it! My baby thanks you!
Pasadena huh? I could drive there.......
Oh! Just thinking out loud.
Locals are certainly welcome! And I'd obviously rather hand them to someone than ship them to someone.

Looks like the Gobbledygook is going to go higher than I thought. I'm wondering if one were to get the book how would you know that it's fake? I'm assuming you would have to crack it open right?
While there are no "sure fire" ways to tell if these types of books are legit, there are things you can look for that will give you a pretty good idea. Photocopying was prone to fades back then, and individual machines would develop particular patterns. The machine Kevin and Peter used tended to have a fade stripe toward the right hand side of the book. The result of photocopying a photocopy would make that fade vanish.
People who have handled a large number of these books (Myself, Danny, Rich, etc) can usually tell fairly easily when they are in hand.

So pleased you enjoyed it!

It's not just that, I don't think that book is a first print is it?"CGC can be a hassle." Says the seller hiding something...
Best guess it would top out at a 5; maybe could press higher.
I would really worry about color touch...
Logo blood is correct
Cover color is correct
GG ad in the back
address is correct
no evident bleaching on the inside front cover
Nothing to lead me to believe it's not a first print.

FWIW The copier fade I would expect to see on an authentic book appears to be there . When an original is photocopied again, that copier fade goes away.

Ok I freaking love those walking dead covers.

Had breakfast with her this morning matter the fact.
As I ate my oatmeal and sipped my coffee, we looked into each other's eyes
and reminisced about the day we first met.
Still fireworks between us
Curious...would you ever risk cracking it for a yellow label?

Here's another that I got back recently. It's the tough-to-find Gamestop reprint of #1 that accompanied the release of the 2007 movie-based video game. I think the only thing keeping it out of 9.8 is the unwitnessed interior signature by the director of the movie, Kevin Munroe. Though, that's a cool signature to have.
1 of 2 highest graded...no 9.8's
They dock for interior signatures?

in case anyone is looking for a ticket into the club.

BF #1 was basically the firs self published work for Peter. He sold it at his college campus. It's side stapled art board basically. Here is all of it:

Anyone know fair market for a #2 9.0 SS Stan Sakai copy? I have one I'm looking to rehome. Surprisingly there looks to only be 7 SS copies of this book at all.
-
Yes, but I'm confused. I thought the new TMNT movie was going to use the same CGI technology they used for avatar?
What I see there are physical toy like things. Maybe someone who knows the process of such things can clarify.
With all that said, I really like the design of the turtles and Shredder so far!
Those are reference models. Particularly for lighting reference.

Letting go of my Gobbledygook #2 Cover Art. In case anyone is interested:

I guess the fakes look very real to people who don't bother to educate themselves about the book.
Fixed that for you. Seriously though. It isn't that the fakes of this book look real, it's that the CGC has never bothered to learn a damn thing about them. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a fake and a genuine copy either if I didn't know what either one looked like.

Interesting. So there's really nothing stopping someone from buying a third print, tearing off the cover, subbing it to get this label, and selling the book as a coverless first print. Now we all have something else to look out for when buying first prints.
You can tell it's a third print by the greytones. The 1st page is pretty easy to see the difference. (thumbs u
But a buyer wouldn't be able to check the interior tones when they are covered by a xerox copy. If I was a buyer and was not aware of the last dozen posts in this thread I would buy the book as a first print NG, trusting CGC's label.
+1
I was thinking raw or just plain coverless, but I see now you inferred "graded" in your OP.
It appears CGC graders aren't aware of the information in this thread. I just noticed the book in question is the same book we identified in this thread, so it was subbed recently (within this past year).
Yeah. Im traveling for dragon con right now, but ill look to see when it was subbed after the weekend.
Also, I wanted to mention again that I didnt sub this book with the intention to deceive. I subbed it as a counterfeit, and talked about it being a coverswap third print in my dealings with the cgc.
I just wanted it to be clear that getting it through as a first print wasnt my intention.

historically, due to extreme rarity and Supply vs Demand, the grade of the silvers and golds have had pretty much zero bearing on value.
