Somehow I missed it, but Kevin Eastman was doing a signing at Meltdown Comics in L.A. yesterday afternoon. Anyone make it there and was he sketching?
I was there. Yes he was.
Dagnabbit. Don't think I would've made it there anyway with the traffic to L.A.
Anyone know his future appearances this year will be at?
Paris and San Diego in July are all he has finalized at the moment.

The Raph 1 shot and #4 only had one printing in that format. The 2nd printings are regular comic sized.
On the inside front cover of #2 there is a picture of Leo. First prints will just have the leo. Subsequent printings will have a speech bubble in the Leo picture that says what printing it is. If there is no bubble, than its a first print.
The only other printing of #3 in that format has one of the shades of blue missing, which your does not.

These took a billion years to get back from the CGC, but well worth it. Stan Sakai and Ethan Nicolle.

Stoked out of my mind for this piece. Not in hand yet, but I couldn't wait to share it. Some of you may have seen it on ebay a couple days ago. Normally I don't go for Buy-It-Now auctions for high price items, but it was just too good to pass up, so I pounced:
What we have here is a 1985 painted sketch of Raphael by Kevin Eastman. This will be the first painted Kevin piece in my collection. It being a year two sketch makes it even better! Painted pieces by Kevin are quite rare, so to have one that is so early on the timeline is just incredible. I'm on cloud nine.
As I said, he is on his way to me, so more on this when he arrives :-)

He's house hunting in Florida, yes.

Also have a hard cover that is impossible to get information on:
There were 1000 printed and collect all micro series and regular series up to #12. Each is signed and sketched and numbered. I have never seen one for sale, not heard about any one else asking about them. I got mine in the mail by direct order (I think it was '86) but it has gone under the radar since then. I had CPG create a listing for it recently as they didn't have any record of it either... Any one seen one for sale or know how much it would go for?
Here's 1/1000 :-)
http://comics.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7059&lotIdNo=152004
I have a copy I got off ebay some time ago (753/1000). There are usually one or two on ebay but are normally asking for like $1000+ for them...Like this one that is up there right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-TMNT-Collected-Book-Volume-1-Ninja-Turtles-1988-HC-/270524909027?pt=US_Comics_Graphic_Novels&hash=item3efc8a85e3#ht_1281wt_1163
I think I paid 300+ for mine.

I believe it was
#1 1rst: 3,000
#1 2nd: 6,000
#1 3rd; 12,000 (?)
#2 1st: 15,000
Thanks for the confirmation on the #1 2nd. Just for the accuracy of the info though, I really don't think that 3rd print # is correct - those 3rds are quite common. Thought it was
#1 1rst: 3,000
#1 2nd: 6,000
#1 3rd; 35,000
#2 1st: 15,000
Can anyone confirm?
This webpage states that Turtlemania gives the print numbers. Sorry my post is dragging up old stuff.
http://miragelicensing.com/comics/mirage/turtlemania/turtlemania.html
TMNT #1 (first printing) - 3,000
TMNT #1 (second printing) - 6,000
TMNT #1 (third printing) - 35,000
TMNT #1 (fourth printing) - 60,000
TMNT #2 (first printing) - 15,000
TMNT #2 (second printing) - 30,000
TMNT #3 (convention edition) - 500
TMNT #3 - 50,000
TMNT #4 - 60,000
TMNT #5 - 60,000
TMNT #6 - 65,000
TMNT #7 - 95,000
Gizmo - 32,000
You have to take that list with a grain of salt however; because there are at least 2 listings there that are incorrect. Namely for Gobbledygook. The Turtlemania books claim there are 150 of Gobbledygook 1 and 2. There were however; 50 copies of each.

Now I need to figure out what to do with this comic. I don't want it to fall into the "wrong" hands again, so I guess it's either keep it or destroy it.
I wouldn't be too quick to chuck it out; there's a handful of collectors out there who would love to a TMNT #1 counterfeit. It's been well known for a while now that a number of #1s were faked, but not too many seem to show up (in relation to the real deal). I could easily see some completionist wanting to add this bit of the darker "history" of TMNT to their collection...
+1
I admit I'm in this category and sent him an offer through PM as well.
Me too :-)

They are official in that there was a sizable print run and they were sold/given out at the show.
And the turtles art was either done by kevin and peter (the cover), or provided by them. So while adam is correct that it wasn't a Mirage book, it wasn't completely void of their involvement either.

There have been Turtle Cons a couple times. One was a stand alone in 92, and then another year it piggybacked MotorCIty CC as a booth (2000 I believe).

Very cool!
Can I ask about how you got Ernie Reyes Jr.? I didn't see any appearances listed otherwise I may have sent in a book myself.
He was at the 35 Days with Kevin Eastman event that I managed last year. It wasn't really an "appearance". He showed up to hang out while Joel happened to be on sight.
-
These are fun. Adaptations of the first two films. Signature Series -- Kevin Eastman, Ernie Reyes Jr. (Donatello Suit Actor - Movie I, Keno - Movie II), and Kenn Scott ("Talkative Foot" and Stunts - Movie I, Raph Suit Actor - Movie II). These are the first SS books Ernie and Ken have done.
-
Both off getting graded.
From WonderCon. Leonardo by Stan Sakai, Raph by Ethan Nicolle of Axe Cop (and idw tmnt #9 variant).
Come SDCC they will be joined by Mikey from Rob Guillory (CHEW) and Don from Dave Petersen (Mouseguard)
-
There really is no fair market value for those books, as none of the 10 signature series copies that exist have sold before.
Having said that, raw copies of that book have sold for as much as $400+ depending n the sketch. So I honestly think that 1400 isnt a bad price. Id pull the trigger on that myself if 4 of the other 6 copies weren't mine

Ok. Not comic related, but definitely TMNT related, and definitely art. I wanted to share the newest member of my collection with you guys:
This is one of the stop motion puppets from a commercial produced by Will Vinton's Studio (California Raisin's, PJ's, Moonwalker, etc) for a snack product called "Pizza Crunchabungas". Will Vinton is a stop motion animation LEGEND, and to be able to obtain ANY of the work from his studio, let alone a Turtle... It takes my breath away.
He isn't in-hand yet. Lots more pictures when he arrives.
Here is a link to the commercial:

Genuinely amazing...but um, what's with the lavender-colored wall? ^__^
The whole living room is various shades of purple. We like it!
4 walls = 4 colors. You're seeing the Donatello wall. No, but that is an awesome idea!

Just back from the CGC:
TMNT #1 Second Print - 9.6
TMNT #1 Third Print - 9.6
Visions #1 (First App The Flaming Carrot) - 8.0
These probably won't be framed and hung, I just stuck them in a frame for the picture.
-
Yeah... you knew we were going to love those books, didn't you?
Seriously, very cool additions! You wouldn't happen to have a close up of the DPS on the bottom, would you? Looks wicked. And I love how Eastman uses the blue in his originals here. Really makes the OA stand apart from some of the standard black and white.

Great stuff! Congrats!
Are the 1:50 sketch cover variants able to be graded CGC SS?
...Sorta?
If you acquired them AFTER they made it to Diamond, then no. Most of them were pre-sketched by Kevin and sent to Diamond, then sent on to retailers. Any of those would receive a Green label. These particular copies were a gift -- witnessed sketched by Kevin at Long Beach Comic Con, so they were eligible for SS. There are currently 10 copies out there that are SSed (or being SSed). My 4, and another 6 that were done in front of Joel Elad at the 35 Days of Kevin Eastman art show in Los Angeles last month.

Collection update to explode your face!
Just hung these.
7 (technically 8) Pages of original IDW layout art by Kevin Eastman
From Left to Right:
Book 1 Page 7
Book 1 Page 16
Book 3 Page 10
Book 3 Page 22
Book 4 Page 4
Book 4 Page 21
Book 1 Page 2 and 3
Above all that are my 1:50 sketch covers in their shiny new frame.
-
The first three prints all look nearly identical from the cover, same size etc.
Having any one of the prints is amazing to me. I just love the cover so much.
Seeing a 9.8 in a cgc case always makes me stop...doesn't matter what printing!
Edit: This link http://miragelicensing.com/comics/mirage/turtlemania/turtlemania.html seems to mention 35,000, but small chances they are wrong. I think you are right Bronty!
What's weird is some places mention 2nd Print was 15,000, others say 6,000
Theres actually a pretty reasonable chance that it is wrong, as the printing quote for Gobbledygook is also wrong.
