  1. 30s - Detective Comics 40s - Marvel Mystery Comics 50s - Shock Suspenstories 60s - Amazing Spiderman 70s - X-Men 80s - TMNT And after that I can't think of any series I care for
  2. Even without the movies, I don't think comic book values will tank just because people are aging out of the hobby and the medium is losing mainstream favorability. Maybe a lot of these bronze age speculator keys will crash, but a lot of Golden and Silver age comics will hold their value. Some have said "Well, besides Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and Cap, everything else (like PCH, GGA, and obscure heroes) will crash." But, really old comics will always have value due to 1) cultural and historical significance 2) they're cool antiquities that aren't artificially scarce 3) there will always be people who are into vintage art, ephemera, and propaganda, and comics appeal to enthusiasts in those avenues. Most people today have no nostalgic connection to a bulk of Golden Age series, yet they're still in extremely high demand. Comics will do just fine, with or without the comic movie craze.
  3. You'd be hard pressed to find that kind of book even in a comic book store that deals in vintage comics, let alone a garage sale or flea market.
  4. I have a whole stack of these giant-sized Treasuries. Batman, Avengers, Archie, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman... Gonna have to post them in this thread some time
  5. Instructions unclear, offered a couple 20's for a Marvel Mystery Comic and got told to scram!
  6. You found this at a garage sale, antique store or flea market?? EDIT: Garage sale, not garage store
  7. After some thinking, this might me one of my favorite covers in all of GA superheroes. Aaaand I just checked GoCollect and it seems like I'm priced way out of this one. Really cool book
  8. The Planet Comics covers are awesome (and pulpy), but how are the stories?
  9. Also interested in learning more of this story. Even the short blurb on the CGC website is interesting. Japanese-American girl from California maintained a collection throughout internment.
  10. Thank you for your input. Do you often go into events with specific books in mind to buy? Do you just hope to discover new books by diving into boxes? Do you enter with a fixed budget in mind?
  11. That's a great haul. I am now considering that cons might be great avenues to find the books I want. The problem will be showing up with the cash to buy em. The curse of preferring Timelys, Nedors, DC, and iconic PCH!
  12. Years ago, a next-door neighbor I had close ties with showed me his WW2 memorabilia collection. He was huge into that stuff. Guns, propaganda posters, medals, knives, ammo, you name it he had it. He wasn't big into comic books, but he had a few with patriotic covers. I remember a Spy Smasher and a Captain Marvel, and I'm blanking on the rest. He had them for sale at the time and I'm sure we could have cut a favorable deal, but I wasn't at all interested in comic books at the time, and I had no idea that there are comics other than Detective #27, Action #1, and Batman #1 that have value. Neighbor eventually sold them and that was the end of that.
  13. I'm new to collecting Golden Age and have never been to a convention. Figured the first one I'd go to would be NYCC, as I take trips to NYC often. What can I expect to find GA-wise? Are the GA books that vendors bring to these cons skewed towards the mega-valuable ones? Do many vendors still bring GA to market at these cons?
  14. I've noticed the same thing you have. That with very common (relatively speaking) horror comics, particularly ECs, there are a lot listed on eBay waaay above market value, presumably in hopes of an ignorant buyer taking the bait. And of course, they just sit there, because most PCH isn't hot enough to where a rich guy will take a copy at any pricepoint. A funny personal example of this is when I found a copy of Haunt of Fear #17 in my house. Knew absolutely nothing about vintage comics at the time but I gathered instantly that the comic is old. Immediately went to look up prices, and thought "Oh my god!! This comic is worth a fortune!" because I took the posted $1200+ listings at face value. HOF #17 is a book that will sell, but in mid-grade, definitely not for that much. I'm pretty sure those listings are still up on the site, and I found this book like 2 years ago.
