  1. My threshold for prices on books like this is, "can I get it for less on Ebay?" The GICs are impossible in grade. I think those are actually below market prices there. The SSWS can be found infrequently on Ebay for about half that.
  2. Well, it sold before on Heritage for $63,250. Here's the link. The question is, why did it get cracked and re-subbed for the same grade? Does it look like the slightly crumpled upper left corner from the original scan has had any work done on it? Seems like a 60K book to me. I don't know why this book guides for so much. Why is it more valuable than a Amazing Mystery Funnies #1? Or a number of scarce Golden Age keys from period including WonderWorld #3 (1st Flame by Lou Fine) which guides for less than 1/2 of the AM#5. S I was always told that this was a personal fave of Overstreet, and he owned the Mile High - thus the high price. But I have no evidence of that. I agree the AMF is at least as desirable.
  3. The Protectors from Malibu are clearly a attempt to continue the Centaur Line with the continuity (I have all the run) but with some adaptation due to legal issues. For example The Clock does no appear at the begining in the Protectors Line. But the President of the USA is Brian O'Brien and we discover later that he is The Clock (but now old). Malibu does not use the character (except in two panels) because DC is the legal owner at this time (buy with the Quality characters). The name of Masked Marvel does not appear in the Protectors Line but the Character exist. His name is Night Mask. As Brian O'Brien he is old but his son take over the alias. We saw also the great-daughter of one of the G-Men (Zl, Zx, Zy) which became Night Mask II (III in fact) after the death of the son of the original Night Mask. In fact, Malibu fear that Marvel sue about the name of Masked Marvel. For the same reason, Fantom of the Fair does not appear with is own name. In fact, Roy Thomas (old fan of GA comics) use a character with a similar name (Phantom of the Fair) and same outfits as the original in the issue #7 of Secret Origin for the retold of the origin of Sandman. And the character come back after in the new series of Sandman (in Vertigo Label). So, the original Centaur Fantom of the Fair appear in the Protectors Line as Gravestone (with a very updated background). One of the other copyright issue was consider as harmless by Malibu. Roy Thomas, again, use the name of Amazing Man for an All-Star Squadron character (a man with mymicry power and after magnetic power). But as the two characters are far away from each other and amazing Man is the well know character of Centaur Malibu risk to use the name (with it seems no problems). Otherwise, the Characters are very similars. Except The Eye, Gravestone, The Shark (with a new name Thresher) and The Ferret (now a Wolverine's like). Most of the Centaur line were revival (including Great Question as the only vilain from Centaur) plus Miss Fury, a GA character but not from Centaur (already revival by Malibu before the start of the Protectors Line). The Protectors Line was supposed to be only 6 issues mini-series. But at last there was 20 issues plus many spin-off and merge with others Malibu title (X-Mutants, Dinosaurs for Hire) and not all with good results. At the End The Protectors # 20 all the universe is blasted. At the risk of getting booted off the GA Boards for irresponsible behavior- of showing you'all how much of a geek I really am...here are some of the Malibu titles....(and yes the Ferret WAS a Centaur character for about six minutes....) Jon Finally! A JB book of which I'm not insanely jealous.
  4. I think Malibu was publishing some stuff with the characters a few years ago, but not sure if that still holds.
  5. Way to go, buttock! Now you need to find a KDF 20 (not Norrin Radd's "Lasik" copy...very funny btw, NR ). What did you think of the interior story in the KDF18? (the Eye Sees deals death by blowing up the main bad guy after he has poisoned his associates, covering their corpses with a sheet) STEVE Thanks Steve, It just came today, so I haven't read it yet. But I think I read it when I had it years ago. KDF had some great stuff (as did all the Centaurs - the Cheerio Minstrels YIKES!).
  6. I don't think I have seen a picture of him since the "Mother" video, which is a good thing. I think you lose something when you see rockstars get old. I prefer to picture them in their prime, I know I hated it when I saw Mike Ness in all his fat and bald glory. By the way, how short is Danzig? I agree. A friend of mine saw Ness in Boston and he tried to grope his wife. We saw the Pixies last year, and at least Frank Black was always a fat slob. Oh, and the Violent Femmes. Yeesh, it was like a checkers game in Central Park. I think I saw an oxygen tank. Danzig was sitting, so I couldn't say, but I'd guess no taller than 5'5 or 5'6.
  7. Astro Zombies! I love Bullet. "Texas isn't average when your husband is dead." I met Glen Danzig about 8-10 years ago at a show. His fitness was, er, um, slipping (as were his pants - I never wanted to see his plumber's crack, but alas my wife and I did), and his hair was thinning, but he's a pretty cool guy. We talked Misfits for a brief time and he was very down to earth.
  8. Centaur fever, better than syphilis! (use protection )
  9. And a book I've always wanted ever since I heard the Misfits.
  10. One correction TiQuinn, if I may. Dave is indeed a Big Name dealer ($200,000 in recent ebay sales by his own admission in his first post...very impressive!), but I am a private collector. That is, until Stephen Fishler can back up his posted allegation that I am a "dealer". Fishler has been asked to list the books I've sold in 2006. Curiously, he has not. OK, let's give the poor fellow a helping hand...please just reference the comics I've sold - ever - via ebay. Oh wait he can't, because there are none. Why don't we make it easy so he won't be confused any more...please simply direct us to a dealer's website that I maintain. Hold on - he won't be able to because no such site exists. Oh my, is he still struggling? Well, as America's #1 Comic Book dealer surely you have the contacts to find out with whom I surreptitiously consign all my books through. I'll save you the trouble, there are none. We're all still anxiously waiting for your response, Stephen. But I expect some jocularity instead - throw a brick, tell a joke. Hey, it's worked for you in the past, eh? STEVE He didn't mean a comic dealer.....
  11. If any post deserves the headbang, it's this one. Congrats.
  12. 100% agree............I would think that quite a chunk of the $42k for the MM9 was based on it being the highest graded copy, but 8.0 is a pretty low ceiling for that book, and it seems almost likely that an 8.5 or better will surface one day. If it was an EXTREMELY condition sensitive and scarcer book like Pep 22, then it would be a lot safer to pay the premium for owning the highest graded copy, as at 8.0 for a Pep 22 as an example, it would not be likey to be dethroned as the best. More Fun 54 does seem to be a better/safer value, although the MM9 would be more exciting to own if $$ was not a factor. For $42k though, $$ is a HUGE factor, which was why I chose the More Fun....it seems More Safe I think that is an extremely condition sensitive book though. I'd probably have to go with it. I'd be happy with a nice VG of the More Fun, but that MM9 is quite unique. It's really a tougher book than it gets credit for - in part due to the fact that nobody wants to sell it.
  13. I'd take the Bat 1, then shed a few tears over the mistreatment (both the glue and fading) of the Marvel 1. Lamont would be ashamed.
  14. I love them. Not particularly this issue, but there are a lot of great books out there if you look closely. Jon Berk has done a great job of this.
  15. I know it's got the story, but does it have the character anywhere in the story? I don't remember if he showed up in the last panel or not.
  16. I've owned 3 copies of that book (my 2nd of which I bought from you, Jon), and I'm thoroughly unimpressed as to it's being a real appearance of The Clock. I think FPS 1 would probably be a more accurate 1st app. The FP6 is not even as much of an appearance as More Fun 51 is. I don't have a copy for personal viewing, but am I correct on that Jon?
  17. Let's match 'em up against each other for the 1st time in this thread...(.I think) Both sold several years ago for approx. $48,000. Which Grail would you choose? Action 1 graders notes: "small donor piece added to 1st wrap with tape" ........................or I'll weigh in after you guys on this one If I subbed that Action 1, I would have thought I won the lotto. 3.0 with a taped spine?!?!? I had a Whiz 1 with slightly brittle pages at the spine and a clean split. My friend told me I should tape the spine and submit it because both the grade and PQ would go up. Little did I know....
  18. Stupid whore. That's heat vision, not X-ray.
  19. Can we all just agree that John Snyder needs his azz whooped for putting color touch and glue on MH keys?
  20. Just got this in. It's nothing like my old copy, but I loves it just the same.
  21. Another pyro book. Is there something we should know about you? I actually almost burned down the desert. True story. A little dry undergrowth, some mesquite trees, and a smoke bomb go a LONG way. I wonder what happens to your comics after they're scanned? You know how they say, "comics are like crack"? Well not if you smoke them.

  23. 5.5! There's a little staining to the back, but it looks WAY nicer. Now I have to get a #61
