  1. That's a great pickup. Toward the end of the series, More Fun was absolutely unsellable. DC did NOT want to be publishing the series, but it was the Editor's pet (I forget who it was at the time), so it kept on getting published. However, in order to minimize losses, they only published the bare minimum - reportedly 10,000. This kept going until the editor was gone, and then the series was cancelled. So the later issues are now especially hard to find.
  2. They're going to tailor his uniform 3 sizes too small. And one leg shorter than the other too!
  3. Now that's a great cover. So much for the other 2 I was going to post.
  4. Based upon your Centaur collecting experience, which series do think is the rarest of the Centaur runs? In addition, off the top of your head, what do you consider to be some of the rarest individual Centaur books? Looking forward to your input! I've been collecting Centaurs for >10 years, mostly superhero/sci-fi. Funny Pages 40 & 41 are impossible in any grade.
  5. Great book! One of my all-time favorites. If I ever get a scanner, I'll post my copy. Bill Everett was years ahead of his contemporaries in the late 30s & early 40s. Nobody was doing anything like his stuff. Congrats!
  6. Done... Now if only I could request a pic of the one that Metro has. As I understand it they only send scans for items over $500 Ask them anyway - and they have been adding live scans of their books so if you haven;t looked in a while peek back to their web site! Count on no less than a half grade over-grade from Metropolis.
  7. Yeah, Beerbohm was the guy who turned me onto that cover. His price was absurd though.
  8. AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!! You've outed my favorite books. I was trying to hoarde flamethrower covers. I've been looking for that Air Ace for years. If I ever get a working scanner, I'll show some of my flamethrower stuff. I used to have the Salida copy of that War 11. I wish I never would have sold it.
  9. About 7-8 years ago there was 2 or 3 copies of Double Action 2 floating around for less than $3000 and NOONE was interested. One in particular was advertised for months in CBG with no takers ( I want to say it was about $1300). Now we have a bunch of 2 year olds with no self-restraint fighting over a copy at 5-10X guide. What a great hobby.
  10. That girl doesn't rhyme with lust.......she is an anagram of lust. Sult?
  11. I've been looking for that AMF #2 for probably 8 years with no success. No copies period.
  12. A couple of things: 1) Here are some more references. J.S. Mills, R.White. The Organic Chemistry of Museum Objects 2nd ed. Butterworth-Heinemann, London 1994. H. Kühn. Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art and Antiquities. Butterworths, London 1986. J.M. Cronyn The Elements of Archaeological Conservation Routledge, London 1990. 2) A good way to spot (some) cleaning is to look on the inside of the covers. If the red ink from the outside cover has bled through to the inside, it has likely been cleaned or had tape removal. The solvent that the paper is immersed in solublizes the inks and allows for migration. Red is the most common ink, but green and blue do it as well. 3) Great discussion on trimming, but one addition is that the right edge and bottom edge should form a "V" pointing out of the book, while the top edge should form a "V" pointing into the book.
