  1. You're really having to assign concrete values to intentionally ambiguous terms there to draw that conclusion. Seems like you're reading what you want into it.
  2. Exactly. Most of the books were accurately graded. There were several that were egregiously overgraded, but taken as a whole the reputation that "all promise books are overgraded" is just wrong. The number that were overgraded is about the same as the number of books on average that are overgraded from that era.
  3. Blue cover with the guy getting bayonnetted in the face.
  4. War is an interesting genre. Prior to the DC continuing characters there are little to no "keys", just books in higher demand. But for Atlas, that list is very long and also very dependent on the collector. Books (not already mentioned) that come to mind off the top of my head, based off of conversations with other collectors, are: Battle 16, 18, 26, 30, 35 Battle Action 8, 11, 15 Battlefield 11 Battlefront 15, 17,23, 26 Combat 1, 5, 10 Combat Casey 12, 19 Man 21 Marines in Action 9 Men in Action 3, 5 Men's Adventures 20 Navy Action 2, 4, 16 War Adventures 9, 13 War Comics 23, 26 And there are a handful of others that are so bloody rare in any collectible shape that would lead to a bloodbath if a nice copy ever showed up. I personally think that War Comics 1 is underrated and quite a "key". It was the first real "war" comic since WW2, and none of those had any staying power. It essentially started the genre, and was the first time Martin Goodman was ever first to a trend, everything else having been an attempt to capitalize on something that was already selling well. But the market feels otherwise.
  5. PSA has notations for certain defects like (oc) for off center and (s) for stain. Similar to a qualified grade, but without a different color to the label. That would be a fair way to handle this. Or they could grade it accurately also, because that degree of fading ain't a 5.5
  6. To be fair, there probably is a crow in that book somewhere.
  7. I saw that in Brian's box. I don't think I've ever seen another copy, it must be exceptionally rare. Glad it ended up with you.
  8. A dealer had the Church 32 and 33 for sale about 10 years ago. Nobody wanted them and he lowered the price to $12K IIRC. I thought that was way too much and passed. Oops.
  9. I'm longing for the days of air travel where the aisles were that wide and the seats had that much legroom.
  10. Mathematically you can model this using the Maxwell equations. H is the number of Dr. Octopus arms and E is the proximity to a dealer's inventory.
  11. I have seen absolutely no evidence that it's down. It's as hot as ever. The difference is that SA tripled overnight and then dropped down to a double valuation. GA grew more linearly.
  12. If a 1.5 is worth $70, that's got to be $6-700. Easily. Follow me for more pricing and investment advice!
  13. Thanks for sharing! The second article mentions that the author had found a graduate thesis that precedes what was discussed in the first. She says she was going to publish something about it "soon", but I can't find anything further from her.
  14. I bought that on VHS. Yes my knees and back hurt.
  15. I've assumed that has to be one that Heath colored himself. It's just brilliant.
  16. The artists were only provided the title and got to draw whatever they wanted to match. This is spectacular!
  17. There are two versions of Cap 100, the standard has a yellow background behind the logo and the less common "variant" has a white background. I can't see any other differences. Looking at Heritage's archive, there are 94 white out of 570 total, so 16%. I've never seen this discussed elsewhere. Anyone have any information about why this version exists?
  18. I see a tiny "Post" breaking through at the bottom. I wouldn't have recognized it on the first issue, but the style is clear on #7.
  19. Love this cover! It appears to be by Howie Post who drew the covers & Jimminy stories for the last few issues of More Fun comics.
  20. The hype regarding the stamp on this one is strange, to be sure. But I still like it.
  21. It's very likely that all of the previous sales were to dealers.
