  1. Umm...What credibility? What did Guardians of the Galaxy 2 cost to produce again? Please cite two credible sources. (Here's a hint: It was $200 million before P&A - as cited by Deadline, The New York Times, Box Office Mojo and well, everyone else...) The single article that posited your inaccurate numbers failed to account for the tax incentives (which reduced the cost). And if you'd read that article properly, you would have caught that detail...
  2. Careful - Last time I said I took classes with someone, Bosco spent two pages calling me a liar.
  3. It clearly struck a chord with this top critic. He's written two follow-up pieces (so far): ‘Black Adam’ and The Rock — when really bad movies happen to good actors The Rock’s ‘Black Adam’ tops our 10 worst movies ever Note, his list of the top 10 worst comes with two caveats: he only covers the period for which he's been actively reviewing films, i.e. Rocky 4 (1985) on, and he's excluding truly C-list films that were never meant meant to be good. So, of the last 37 years, he's got: 1. Black Adam 2. Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest 3. Venom: Let There Be Carnage 4. Suicide Squad 5. Last Days 6. The House That Jack Built 7. Ghosts Can't Do It 8. The Last Airbender 9. RocknRolla 10. Romeo & Juliet (2013)
  4. Nah - didn't see it. I was actually excited for this film before the reviews came in - not just from critics at large but from many of the boardies here. Specifically, I was excited to see Hawkman - because I both love Aldis Hodge (since Friday Night Lights) and the character (I own 3-4 copies of Brave & Bold 34 and adored the Hawkworld mini). To read from fellow boardies how they did Hawkman dirty in this film was the real nail in the coffin. You may think I hold a grudge against DC films but you're dead wrong - I love many of these characters and went from livid at the tiness (BvS, Justice League, Suicide Squd) to now just mildly amused at how they seem to blow it, film after film, project after project. Watchmen, The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman -- all amazing. So why can't we get halfway decent portrayals of literally anyone else? And, as you might suspect, I'll pass on this in the theater - seems little reason to waste the time and money to get excited about a mere post-credits sequence when it'll be available on HBO Max in 6 weeks anyway. To be fair, I plan to pass on Wakanda Forever in the theater as well. It's not a DC thing - it's a "make good movies" thing.
  5. Scathing review from the San Francisco Chronicle, The Rock's (original) hometown newspaper. Review: The Rock fails in ‘Black Adam’ — possibly the worst movie ever "“Black Adam” does not deserve a bad review. A bad movie review would be too kind. It would imply that “Black Adam” is an actual movie." And, for the record, I think this will work out financially - it may only top out at around $550 million theatrically, but I also think Warner Bros. would be okay with that - viewing it as a loss leader to prep folks for a guaranteed hit in a forthcoming "vs. Superman" sequel. Doesn't mean we fans didn't deserve better.
  6. But what about Carol Danvers? There was a boardie here who *swore* she'd be leading the Avengers after Tony Stark's death. Frankly, I'd be down with a West Coast Avengers off-shoot with the b-list characters -- I mean, that's what it was really. Let's have Hawkeye lead a team of b-listers. And - it worked! For the first 50 issues or so that title was fun as hell.
  7. Love this thread - and that you've been updating it for years now. But I especially applaud the X-Men # 248 in the first photo - that was the first X-Men issue I ever bought! It was 1989, I was 12 years old and the book was only a few months old, as the current issue was # 251. I found it at a yard sale a few blocks away for $.25 (5 for a $1). Bought it alongside some '89 Nick Fury: Agent of Shield books. And started collecting X-Men in earnest with issue # 252 -- and Classic X-Men # 39 (mid-way through the reprints of the Dark Phoenix Saga). Years later I'd pick up a raw 7.0 X-Men # 94 and a CGC 3.0 X-Men # 1, but it all started with that issue of # 248 from that yard sale.
  8. Agree. Weird character history given that he only appeared once (in Marvel Family # 1) and then not again until 30+ years later in Shazam 28. But - as mentioned above - he wasn't really a thing until the the early 2000s - with the aforementioned JSA run and then in Infinite Crisis, 52, etc. Likewise with his inclusion in the Injustice video game (2013). Had that been released 10 years earlier, he wouldn't have made the cut.
  9. I thought it was a notable - but logical omission. Because Keaton hasn't appeared in the DCEU yet, so he can't reprise his role. I thought the original timeline was: The Flash (Keaton's first appearance) Batgirl (Keaton's second) Aquaman 2 (Keaton's third) Clearly that order no longer works with The Flash's delays, but there's nothing in that tweet that says Keaton doesn't (still) make his first DCEU appearance in The Flash.
  10. Quick - someone go back and find "Comic Book Coin" - one of the all-time classic threads!
  11. Agreed. The Flash TV show is better than it had any right to be - but I think the cinematic Flash needs a clean break from that story, that Flash, that universe. Not saying it should be Ezra for the long haul, but re-casting him with Gustin would be an unforced error and unnecessary step backwards. Ditto with most / all of the actors/storylines from the Arrowverse.
  12. ? But like...Which of those had the # 1 movie of the weekend? And the largest solo opening weekend ever for one of the few remaining Hollywood movies stars? And a superhero that was (supposedly) loved by fans (if you disregard the entire "Does DC hate its comics fans?" thread)? Also - the standings ultimately shifted a bit today: Paramount Class B: - 0.68% Disney: - 0.27% Roku: + 0.94% Fox: + 0.43% Netflix: - 2.46% WBD: - 2.30% I reckon "But...it didn't fall quite as much as Netflix" isn't the best take...
  13. On the heels of Black Adam's opening weekend, WBD stock is down 1.6% this morning in early trading - while the S&P 500 is up 0.35%.
  14. ? Even the quote in the snippet said “rip off a Thor” clearly meaning the plot of one of the Thor films - not the character himself. Reading comprehension…
  15. Again, ? You posted "Interesting details, as you hear so often from some how the DVD portion of home theater is dead." And then you posted an irrelevant chart that specifically omits the detail necessary to either support or refute that statement. So...how many collective units of the top 10 (or top 50) sold last week, in all formats? And how does that compare to 1 year, ago, 5 years ago & 10 years ago?
  16. ? What's this mean? % share of units of a dying format sold is irrelevant vs. the total number of units sold - compared to that same total number say, 1, 5, and 10 years ago. I could post a similar pie chart comparing the current market share of laser discs vs. cassette tapes vs. records.
  17. That's a lot of caveats, yo. Might as well say "Best opening for a DC superhero movie starring a racial minority that opened in January of a leap year." Also - "core four?" I've heard of the Trinity (Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman) but not that one -- how does it make sense to include Aquaman and not The Flash, Cyborg or even Green Lantern?
  18. Not great, given this was tracking at $70+ million just 36 hours ago. Also, The Mummy 2 opened to $68 million domestic more than 20 years ago.
  19. Now down to 42% positive on Rotten Tomatoes. It's the answer! But - valiantly keeping just out of Justice League (39%) and Batman Forever (39%) territory. Phew!
  20. It does sort of boggle the mind that we've seen: 3 Blade movies 2 Ant-Man movies 1 Bloodshot movie 1 Black Adam movie ...before we've seen even 1 Flash movie. Meanwhile Disney's over here doing throwaway side projects with their lunch money like Kamala Khan Ms. Marvel, MODOK & Werewolf by Night.
  21. Currently 54% positive on Rotten Tomatoes. 4% points below Wonder Woman: 1984, but closing in on *double* Batman v. Superman's 29% positive.
  22. Never forget - this must make 4.5x theatrical to make a profit. 🤪 #ProfitlessAquaman #JayDogMath
