  1. I wouldn't be surprised at all if CGC damaged the books - I have sent several brand new, flat as a pancake books with corners to die for - what I would consider easy 9.8s - and they have come back with similar graders notes (or not at all), with grades ranging from 8.5-9.4 - two of them were SS books that somehow gained color breaking creases in the same location, so those 2 are done. : / fwiw, 2 of the 8.5 books I sent back in to be repressed and regraded: one came back a 9.8, and the other a 9.6, so part of me thinks it's mishandling and/or luck of the draw with graders, or CGC just looking to cash in a little more. I also think CGC's customer support is well above the normal bar, so if you reach out to them and complain and show them the evidence, they may be able to credit you for a follow up pressing, which is probably the best you're going to do (you'll still likely end up paying for the regrade tho, so kind of a mixed bag).
  2. fwiw @pmjohnson06 I had several submissions come back in the middle of last year with Newton Rings, but haven't seen any since last fall, probably about 20 books since then - so I feel like it's been getting better in the last few months.
  3. > Chad has reached out to me via PM, apologized and made a nice donation to the Hero Initiative. This was the right thing to do. Also this. My is that he shouldn't be banned from selling per se, but I personally won't be buying anything from him.
  4. Wouldn't buy from him even if he did make a donation as the remedy.
  5. What! that's no bueno. We need more visibility to the processes, not less! I thought that video was really well done tbh.
  6. This seems to be the exact reason for the rule.
  7. Thx @comicartfan - I'll definitely be picking up a few more (got any Futurama...?)
  8. Yeah i think its like a planet or something, but when the video is running it only shows the top half, so i thought it was a finger bend - comment updated 👍
  9. This is great - really nice visibility into some of the inside processes. I'm no CGC grader, but at 10:53, and 10:57, he's supposedly showing us a perfect, gem 10.0, but unless I'm missing something, there's a fold on the right hand side of the cover: and a pretty deep indentation on the back? The indentation might be just some weird color line, but I haven't been able to find an image to compare it to. If I saw a book with that right cover defect, I wouldn't bother to submit it for a 9.8 prescreen, much less expect it to get a 10. ----- Update: Ok I was missing something! Both of those issues are actually part of the cover art - here is the actual listing: https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/4388059005/ the 9.9 also has the weird color line on the back so I guess that's just part of the cover (however it has a pretty big white blotch on the front cover by the blue rangers head, maybe that's just the scan?) https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/4388059016/
  10. Vision book just shipped today - very happy with the way these two turned out - thanks to @AlphaOmega for the facilitating on the Vision book
  11. That's what I would think as well @shadroch, and yet the label clearly says 'Newsstand Edition' but there clearly isn't a barcode underneath the sticker...
  12. Just saw this one pop up on MCS & it seemed relevant - it's a SW Heir to the Empire 7.5, Qualified, but no notes on the label: https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/4076906007/ The grader notes say 'sticker on cover' - but I'm not seeing it - unless the sticker is the barcode? but if that's the case wouldn't it not be Newsstand?
  13. 100% I bought a couple junker books with price stickers just to see if I could do it… the answer was a resounding ‘nope’ - color loss and damage to every book I tried.
  14. You will not be able to convince me that a single person looked at that label before it was shipped to you.
  15. That might be part of it - I once sent an 8.5 book back to CGC for a press & regrade & it came back a 9.8 (but have also sent in easy 9.8 books for a press/grade and had them come back as 9.4s, so ymmv) Some of those defects might come out with a press, but I did find out that 'creasing' can sometimes refer to actual fiber breaks in the paper (and not what I would normally think of as a 'crease'), which I don't think would come out with a press.
  16. Does that imply that we're only getting 4 new ones..?
  17. Thank you @CGC Mike - I've said it before and will say it again - the customer service side of CGC is great - responsive, courteous and (reasonably) effective, but the QC side leaves a lot to be desired. If the QC side can be improved, it'll be a lot less for the CS side to deal with.
