  1. I received a book a while back that had some scuffs and scrapes on the slab, so I sent it back in for a Mechanical Error. I received the same book back yesterday, and it still has obvious scuffs and scrapes on it, but when I resubmit for a 2nd ME, the form tells me I can no longer select 'slab damaged in transit' because I received the book over 14 days ago.

Can we no longer resubmit damaged slabs for Mechanical Errors more than once? So if the slab we receive after the 1st Mechanical Error is damaged, but no longer eligible to be resubmitted, that leaves the submitter with a damaged slab and no recourse? I'm hoping this is just a website error and not a policy change, as I've had to submit many books in for more than one round of Mechanical Error.

    That is very cool.

Thx! yeah I was thinking about doing an 'everybody signs #1' Futurama book, but this seemed more interesting - also getting everyone to sign a single book would be a big hit to the wallet, and this seemed to lessen the blow, or at least slow it down over time lol

I couldn't find a good one for Phil LaMarr tho. I got a couple other Futurama sigs (my fav I think is Welker), but they're not singles on the census, so I posted them over in the Celebrity thread.

  3. Welcome to CGC Quality Control @ChristianJM... it's ... sub par.

I think I've been averaging a little under half of the books I've submitted that have needed to be returned for Mechanical Errors this past year - random debris in the packaging, scruffs, scratches on the slabs, misprinted labels, the works. My impression is that it's actually improved slightly overall in the last 6 months or so, but out of every 10 books I receive I pretty much expect to send 4 or 5 back.

In general, it's not great - CGC is either strapped and can't scale to meet current demand, or are just plain sloppy with QC.

That said, it's been a breeze to send the books back for MEs - just go to the submission page within 2 weeks of receiving the book, detail out the what the issue is, submit the order, print out the label and drop it off at a FedEx pickup - pretty straight forward, and I'd say turn around time is a little better than a regularly submitted book, as CGC claims to 'prioritize' the ME submissions.

I also usually put big blue painters tape around the issue to make it clear where the damage is, don't know if it helps but hopefully it lets the reviewers find the issue quicker - I mean, I usually see the issue with the slab within about minute of opening the box, so usually it's pretty obvious and I really don't understand how QC missed it in the first place.

there's also a quite lengthly (300pgs!) thread going already, feel free to take a look just so you know what other people are catching so you can keep an eye out for it if you submit more slabs:

  4. I'll reserve judgement on Pascal - he was great in Mando & TLoU, but seems maybe slightly miscast here.

Vanessa Kirby on the other hand I think is a great choice - have to see how that pans out.

The other two seem... middle of the road ok? Joseph Quinn had a lot of energy with Eddie in Stranger Things, so maybe that's a good fit...? Given the overall meh-ness of the last crop of MCU movies, my expectations are pretty low.

I concur that books are being damaged

Totally agree - it may be the encapsulation process that's damaging the books on the way out (which seems to be happening with this example), but my experience has been that the damage is happening before it gets to the graders, or maybe during it's time with the graders.

I can't say for certain where it's happening, but I also don't get the sense that CGC particularly cares either, or at least enough to warrant trying to track the source down.

  7. Ultimately it will depend on what you have… if you have a list of the books you could try listing them as a collection either here or elsewhere, or if you’re willing to disclose where you are in the world i wouldn’t be surprised if a boardie who’s geography close to you would be willing to help you go through it and give you a reasonable estimate, and/or help you sell it.

  8. I was there a couple years ago and can confirm he has no real interest in selling the books, and said as much when I was looking at an insanely overpriced X-Men 1.

sure the prices are bananas, but the store itself is super fun - tons of books, tons of slabs, aisles of funkos, cases of vintage action figures - totally worth the trip if you’re not actually looking to buy comics…
