  1. Why's Harbinger so high all of a sudden? That is NOT a high price for Harbinger. If fact it would be considered a very low price if that book sold there. I don't know why Whetton is putting Valiants selling 'below average' as 'heating up'. He's been on the VF boards long enough to know what the price of that book is....
  2. How do you figure it's overpriced by three times...one just sold for $350...so by your logic a 9.4 should sell for $50 less than one which would probably grade 7.5.
  3. Also, a #2 Yellow is 3.33 times more rare than a number one. In that case I guess it's about right! I was thinking $300ish for a #1 yellow in nice condition. I know the Yellow print runs were all 500, but I didn't know the #2s were more scarce. Here's the print runs: #1 - #2 #3 4000 800 500 1500 500 350 500 150 100 50 50 50

  6. Just stay in regular contact with them as they gradually bring their prices down to earth.
  7. I've seen a lot of these Wizards 1/2's starting to get respectable money. They have them for a lot of titles though and the lesser known titles you can still find in the $1 or less box. I remember this particular Gold edition being very tough to find. Not sure about the others, I always liked the Wizard ACE editions and never see them at comic shops either. The print run for X-O 1/2 Gold is around 2k, similar to The Maxx. The difference being one was coveted and protected, the other seems to have been trashed. And if it wasn't for seller 'canvascutie' these books would still be selling in the triple digits.
  8. If you're referring to the book above, this is not a high sale, it's actually lower-than-average. This book was selling for over $200 before one specific seller started an orderly, consistent string of sales.
  9. This is actually a low price for this book....where you've been Whetton?
  10. Holy , are those real? I need a pair! I thought the same exact thing! PATTERN for Tiger 1 Tank - Panzer Crocheted Slippers $7 for instructions on how to manufacture an item? What a great scam, I mean business model! Mrs. Donut does this sort of thing - that $7 represents a GREAT deal of work on the part of the person who made the pattern. Maybe so, but I'm not going to pay to have the opportunity to receive a good or service, what is this the derivatives market? haha.

  12. Definitely. 1st appearances are the new #1st issue. If only this had been the case for the past few years with all the super books that have come and gone cheap that are now HOT, HOT, HOT. This thread is bad for business. It's a money machine for lurkers. I keep a lot to myself, or use PM's. It definitely is! I know of one reseller that actively tracks this thread, and some of the book descriptions reflect some of the "hotness" talk on here. Most probably, much more. On some sites there's a "no access unless you are a member of these boards" kind of thing. Especially the WTB and sell threads. So, someone takes 20 seconds to sign up, and then continues to lurk? You can make a case that this thread is the fuel to the fire of these books.
  13. You got strictly Adam Hughes fans vs Harley freaks vs Variant collectors/speculators. Factor in a possible printing defect and you got a panic on the Fourth of July Maybe it's one of the other 90% of variants that come flying-out-of-the-gate, only to plummet two months later?
  14. Death Sentence 2? What a terrible name for a book...
  15. If you look at all the arguments I've made on the VF boards regarding projects, none of them were directed at you. And what difference does the use of cash have justifying the selling? I sold my away at cost, could have easily taken profit (and it wouldn't have gone toward booze or any other form of discretionary spending).
  16. Or - and this may be a shocker for ya - they just want anything to do with the Death of Superman storyline, from lead-ins to actual full appearances. I present X-factor 5 to support my argument as well. Its currently climbing in price just like MoS17 is. Your hypothesis the same on this book? Completest are nuts over having anything and everything related to a character they may appreciate. Folks can laugh at MrWeen all they want. But there are so many people out there like him, there is a market if you find them. Just look at the Valiantfans.com folks. If a penguin figure has even been created to look like Solar, Magnus, X-O Manowar or Rai, they scoop them up repeatedly just to have anything-everything Valiant. There are sellers making a nice chunk of change on these folks not because they laugh at them, but rather they keep feeding their needs. It may not be your focus, or how you collect. But that's our hobby. Many likes, many approaches. The 'bubble penguins', I call 'em. I never understood the appeal, and definitely not the market of those things. I wasn't going to trash on the guy's selling thread, but in five years you'll see these things selling for much less. Look at the comments from the wives...'are you kidding me', one day the collectors will realize the same thing. Really? I am sure glad the collectors didn't listen to you when I had to put my penguins & Solar statue up for sale. I won't say the price I got for anything, but it was priced aggresively because I didn't want to let them go easy and also to leave some wiggle room. No one bothered to haggle, I got what I asked for all of them. -slym I never made these comments on the vf boards, and definitely not in someone's selling thread, so I'm not sure how someone could have 'listened to what I said'. These will turn into board projects once the buzz wears off. And I enjoyed seeing people sell board projects for profit, total class.

  18. You get one mulligan a year, where you're not charged. I'm not quite sure how that works when all bids are cancelled, and then the listing is ended. And it's a zero-feedback account, it's not like he's risking his reputation..or maybe he is, battling 0%. haha
  19. Nice Haul! Was this at a garage sale? It's crazy to think people could still let that ASM 300 fall into a dollar box...
  20. I would sell it now, and < the previous sale. Some of these hot comics last a day then fall off a cliff.
  21. Can someone PM with mycomicshop auction advice for sellers? I'm not sure the process/fees/etc I agree 100% regarding BIN being the way to go on eBay. I throw in a best offer most times because I tricked myself into thinking that more people look at BIN/obos than straight BINs even though I have zero factual evidence Brad, you can PM me, or call me at 512-240-2802 if you have any questions. There's a lot of info here: mycomicshop consignment info Fees are: 10% for sales up to $300, minimum $5 per item 8% for sales $300-3000 6% sales over $3000 No listing fees or any other costs to you. You can list either as fixed price or in our monthly auction. Commissions are the same for both formats. If fixed price, you control your pricing. Items you list as fixed price are listed simultaneously on our web site and our eBay store. The eBay listings are free to you--we cover the listing fees, and we bump the eBay price up just enough to cancel out the final value fee if it sells on eBay. We only do auctions on our own site, none on eBay. Auctions are indeed riskier than fixed price, but in general stuff in our auctions gets a strong percentage of market price/GPA/retail compared to other auction venues. As others have noted, we have a sizable customer base of buyers that use us but don't look at eBay very often, so sometimes auction prices on our site can go higher than on eBay. Raw books do well through us, because buyers know us and like our grading, versus you listing them yourself on eBay, where buyers tend to distrust the grading from unknown eBay sellers. The process is: - You enter the books you want to consign on our web site (our web site tells you which are eligible for consignment based on expected value) - You start a new consignment transaction and ship us the books. - We scan everything, grade any raw books, and file them to inventory. - As soon as they're filed, we email you. You then use a page on our web site to set prices or assign to auction. You can later change prices, or shift a fixed price book into the next auction, at any time. - We issue payment for most books within about 10 days of the sale, and can either mail you a check or pay via PayPal. I do not think it's cool for you to advertise your service on this thread I have to disagree - I think it's very cool that online sellers of all sizes actually come on here to help clarify or explain what they do - specifically to people who ask questions. That's pretty good customer service in my book. Customer service and Lonestar? Is that an oxy-insufficiently_thoughtful_person? .....last time I ordered from Lonestar, they pictured a bunch of newsstand books in their auction and shipped me regular editions. When I asked about it, the response I got was along the lines of...'tough mess'. So I was like fine, I'm never dealing with you guys again.
  22. I've never understood why a seller would list via an auction, instead of a BIN (with maybe BO offer). You take all price risk out of the equation. There are the exceptions, on iconic books, but that's extremely few-and-far-between.
  23. What I have seen or know about: 5-7 #1 blacks 13 #2 blacks 4 #3 blacks 4 #3 Yellows 2 #2 Yellows 4-5 #1 Yellows The rest are much more common. I would even remove the Number 1 yellow, it seems to be more common than a few others (Red #2). And with a total list of 150 (plus any aps), it's somewhat manageable to track each book. Just to be clear, these are tracked sales, not a census, correct? Neither. It's the absolute number of copies that I have seen with my own two peepers, or know for sure exists. I have tracked these on eBay since they first came up with the e-mail alert program, what, 12 years ago? The only ones I missed were the international ones that they don't report on. So it's a personal census, not a complete list, but no fault of your own, just the limitations of one person's awareness. I would like to see if someone with a worthpoint account (or equivalency) can see how many sales there has been. It would be a start at least. I'm pretty sure there's at least 6 Number 3 yellows. There was one sold last year on ebay with a high BIN/BO, that didn't look like it would be in the condition of the two on the census. That one, and the three recent sales, puts it at 6 (at a minimum).
