  1. My saga run will be worth $2000 in a month If you had asked me at Christmas if PP would be pulling these number...... Nope. To prove it, I sold a PP run (#1-2nd print the rest first) for $44 in November. PANNNNNNN!!!!!! You know a book has hit stupid numbers when the creators are selling personal copies! Ahahaha.
  2. If you're looking to buy then wait. If you want to sell, you should sell. And if you're looking to speculate, pick a random Image title previewing and order 50 copies. Worst idea ever Don't tell the boys of the "East of West" thread that.

  4. I'm pretty sure I have that Neil Gaiman book...didn't think I could give it away to anyone!
  5. ahaha, so a book with three known copies isn't rare enough for you? Wow.
  6. I'm sure a little has to do with convenience as well, one stop shopping....... I don't think that would be a major inconvenience. For starters, there's a lot of people that only buy/read 1 or 2 publishers, and what if you have to go to two different sources if it's 10-15% cheaper?
  7. Thanks Ryan, I found the original article of that graph here...hopefully the owner doesn't mind us referencing his info... http://www.jimzub.com/?p=2066 It seems that comicology's cut is very high, and I would suspect it will come down in time. Really, what's to stop any publisher from just selling them directly on their website, and eliminate the middle man all together?
  8. Can you elaborate? I can't remember the breakdown of the numbers now from our conversation, but the margins were quite a bit higher for companies to sell a digital comic (and even though it's selling much cheaper), than to get that same sale via a retailer. Just think of the costs alone in printing/distribution/inventory, etc, that is eliminated from being digital?
  9. My point is future buyers down the road. Newer readers coming to market are less lightly to go the original floppy route. I bet the average age of this board is around 50.
  10. Wow, hopefully you don't buy any items from me via ebay! I think offering free shipping is better recourse than what you would get from most places, especially Canada-U.S. I got some items from Lonestar of the wrong pictured variants (who hasn't?), and they didn't even so much as give me an apology...
  11. I think this was mentioned earlier. But, I think comixology and like-app are increasingly putting pressure on printed books. It's only logical for publishers to print what they know will sell, factoring in digital. I have comixology and only use it when it's release day and I can't wait any longer for my top five books to come in via mail. I had a good chat with an LCS owner regarding variants, and the conversation evolved into him talking about the digital age and how much more profitable it is for publishers to go that route. I think the older generation will always want the books, but the younger generation that just wants to read an issue on an Ipad will push print runs lower over time.
  12. That was me chief. And don't feel bad, after I bought yours I grabbed another one for $9.99 (on a 7 day auction), so I don't think the price would have actually been sold for $5-700.
  13. It was in reference to PP. But definitely not a nine month comic selling for $500 slabbed! You are going to have to dumb that down a bit for me mate please.

  15. That is a huge waste of money. Or is it? No, it is. J/K, compared to the 900 sale of the top two, this is a much better price.
  16. CGC 9 total graded blue, none yellow, and the highest grade is a 9.6. Seems pretty wide open for a flyer on a high grade raw with the hopes of ending up with a 9.8. It is our experience in the Valiant world that with these Acclaim books the best you can expect in the wild is a 9.6. The print runs were small and few people cared, a bad combo for high grade books. They exist, I'm just saying that fliers are very very likely to crash. Thanks to everyone for their input - much appreciated. My GBU variant is a 9.2. It is has 2 color breaking stress lines on the spine. The only other Vol 3 that I have is 3 copies of #3 - 9.2/9.4's. Not a whole of info on eBay. V1 I found basically #2-43 with lots of multiples and 11 of the yearbooks. Most of the multiples came in the late 30's and 40's. The V2 Acclaim run I have #5 thru 20 - missing #13 & 15. I also found 2 of the "Retailer Review" #5's. Multiples on the later issues - I ended up with 3 nice #20's. So...I could have a Shadowman party on eBay or I could break them up. Just start everything at .99 and let it ride. Or I could fill me Fellow Forumites runs first. I don't know what to do. My Valiant Advisor Bosco hasn't been around.... Aside from when VE1 first launched and X-O got a huge bump for a few weeks, the prices of the original valiants and acclaims have not increased as a result of the launch. And although some late issues sell well in high grade, it's no guarantee you can get a great price, you might have to be patient at times. You might still be able to find the great deal from time-to-time, but back issues in LCS stores have been plucked clean from the VF board over the years...
  17. Shadowman 2 Good, Bad and the Ugly (GBU) is a hard book to find. There isn't a lot of demand, but there also isn't a lot of supply, which is why it is about a $100 book. There are a few other books from the Acclaim runs (volumes 2 and 3) that get pricey as well. What he said. The book's price has been very stable over the years around that range. I wouldn't pay $100, but I've got three copies of the book (one of my favorite Valiant/Acclaim covers). Condition could be a big factor in pricing, however. The Acclaim books are VHTF in good condition, the Shadow Man vol.3s no different. So if you see this book sell for $4-500 in 9.8, don't be surprised, there are very, very, few high grade copies out there. The hardest to find Shadowman is the Special Edition Full-Size. If you find one for anywhere up to $200, grab it. You won't see another one again, I took me many years to find mine.
  18. This is exactly what fuels speculation, you don't want to miss out on a potential sleeper so you buy all the titles! Seems like a guaranteed losing proposition, how much are gonna spend to get every new image title? And that one sleeper, how will you know which one is a sleeper, and when to sell it?
  19. Also, is anyone here the owner of ebay handle: maxxedauction? I sold the guy a red#2, and he re-listed it three times after quickly closing the listing, then it disappeared? I also think he may have done this in the past...
  20. Wow, I can't believe that seller would even be able to contact you...so assuming he paid those advertised prices, he sold the set to you at a loss...then would be willing to just give you an ultra rare book for free? Either this guy's a saint, or an eccentric millionaire...
  21. The former -this entire forum has devolved into this practice. I know. Sounds like the "pump and dump" strategy used in the penny stock world The question is, who's getting dumped on? I wonder if we removed ebay, and did all the transactions here, would most of the bids and ask be all of us? haha
  22. 20 yrs from the 90s crash, just in time for another!
  23. I don't know if I agree with the 'be there in a week' argument. I don't always get to new releases within the first week or two if I'm busy, I think two weeks is more than fair. Usually, the people that want them a couple weeks is enough time to determine that. I'm not saying I disagree with guys buying multiple issues, I've bought a couple extras here and there but the problem with that is it can hurt the individual title. Case in point I grabbed 3 second prints of X-O Manowar#1, and 2 second prints of A&A#1, as both are considered more valuable than their respective first prints (especially X-O). I happen to know of another guy that snagged 7 copies of X-O from this store, leaving the other three. I left behind two issues of A&A, because I had bought these on a second trip to the store after I had an epiphany, realizing that I'm hurting the success of the title by hoarding the first issues so other people can't get to them.
  24. I pity the fool . . . He might be at the dump too...man's gotta eat.
