  1. I can't think of any set of 6 books in the modern era that would be as difficult to find as what you have there, Absolutely stunning! I had a feeling the recent additions to CGC's census were yours (knowing you mentioned about getting them slabbed). I'll probably ship my number two yellow and number 3 black, they're a 9.0 at least....I never thought I'd see any yellow or black above 9.2, congrats!!!!!!
  2. I see you listed a few, you've probably noticed mine have gone untouched...hopefully you'll have better luck! Also, you need to update the scans!
  3. I can't remember why I thought the story was a woman, maybe the avatar used was female, or someone alluded to it, it was one of those 'i heard this story from a person but can't remember where' sources...anyways, not really important. Yes that's quite a score, an absolute steal at that price! I don't know what to tell you about not being sniped...I was in my early twenties then and hadn't even looked at a comic in a decade, in fact had i not stumbled on the valiantcomics website in 05 I probably wouldn't own any ... Very cool story though, whomever you purchased them from must have been a serious collector and i'm sure your issues are in great shape...I've considered sending a couple of mine off to CGC but don't really see the rush since I'm not gonna sell them anyway. Which leads me to my next point, would you be grading them to potentially sell at sometime in the future?
  4. Yah- those were put on there by the previous owner, so I can't take credit for them. He had them double bagged and boarded, so I just left them as-is, plus the print run was stickered on each issue, which was pretty helpful. Ack! The Black and Yellows should be in Mylar.
  5. Wow that is something...very, very nice! You know i remember reading somewhere a few years back vaguely of a person (I was sure it was a woman) that bought the whole set of ashcans off ebay. I couldn't verify if it was true or the source, so i'm happy to know it actually happened and I didn't dream it up, . Those issues look like they're in amazing condition, could you tell us a little more about the history of that set. Did you buy them from Sam Keith directly? And I guess you wouldn't happen to have extras of either the #3 yellow or #2 red?
  6. Do you think he has some left to sell? I really think there is more stuff going behind the scenes with these effin' things then anything else...here's one for you, why are you contemplating selling your black 3?
  7. That 762 poster was me. As I stated there, the price guide was setting their values based on actual sales which is not an accurate representation when you only have five recorded sales that can be found. I'm open to your ideas so please let me know which parts of the post you don't agree with and I'll explain. Nothing in particular, more the commentary on how one person can base a price off 'one person's' opinion, similar to how you pointed out about lack of data for value. One thing's for sure, the prices are 'all over the map' someone pays $85 for a #1 Red from vikes and $200 for a number two red in another instance, yet when I list a number 3 with a 150 BIN and Offers, I don't get any interest at all. Actually that's not true, some by the name of bunnytoe or bunnyfoot kept lowballing me offers, cancelling the offers and then re-offering lower, it got old so i blocked him. The other offer was from Vikes, $50 for my yellow...my reply? 'Yeah right so you can immediately re-list it with a $200 BIN listed as NM/M, no thanks!
  8. You know what's funny? Over on the CPG site i read an argument that the #3 Black should be the least valued based chronigically...meaning a number 1 is more important in the series than number three. And the Admin only going by the one sale from last year (which half the people didn't even see) set the price at $150...so arbitrary that 1 or 2 uninformed individuals can establish a price I couldn't find the source, but they also cite a 'rumoured' sale for a number 1 at $800, anyone catch wind of that?
  9. I sent my #1 Yellow to be slabbed, and they...of course...hammered the offset pages. Only got a 9.0, when the cover itself is flawless. Considering CGC has seen all of about 10 of these total, they don't really have a good handle on grades...or, they do, and 9.0 is about as high as they will ever go. I have never, ever seen a #3 Yellow...which is odd, becaue they are ostensibly twice as common as #3. I was wondering when you'd chime in http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/ggsae/IMG_0899.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/ggsae/IMG_0900.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/ggsae/IMG_0902.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/ggsae/IMG_0903.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/ggsae/IMG_0905.jpg You know the photos aren't as clear as i like, especially the last one on the back which makes it look worse than it actually is, . But I definitely agree that a 9.0 is about as high as we can expect, I think both of these would fall around a 9.0/8.5. Don't know what to say about the number three yellow, i thought I recalled you just missed out on one from a seller that had all three yellows (quite a feat on it's own!).
  10. It doesn't matter, i knew how much RMA paid for his blacks long before I set a snipe for over $500 on ebay nearly two years ago...It's your elusiveness and hype that we're having an issue with.
  11. And how does disclosing the reserve price hurt your sales? It's stuff like that and these absolutely absurd 20k bins which just diminishes my desire for them. And as far as I know i'm the only person in the world (aside from maybe Keith himself ) with all three blacks (2 away from a complete set), you really have to understand your target audience - it's the completest (participating here) chasing the set that are only going to spend real money for these...
  12. Hey Michael, thanks for the reply...I guess part of the issue for me is that it appears you're trying to manipulate the market for these. I asked in private on two separate occasions what the reserve is and what you'd be willing to sell unslabbed copies of either, just ballpark ideas and you couldn't give an answer to either. If you set absolutely absurd BINS, it shows you really aren't interested in selling and over time actual prospective buyers (like myself and others on the board) will just walk away. Maybe you are willing to let an auction run with lower reserve each time to guage interest, because there's no other way to tell about accurate value without clear sales. If you come out and say i'll let it run for a year and if none sell i'll lower the price or i'll try again later, I'd have more respect for you as the seller and it would maintain my interest. These are quite the collectible and you have something that's ridiculously rare but to let's be honest here, these are published by Wizard! To say these are more valuable than a number 3 Maxx Black, published by Image with extra pages of unseen art and signed and numbered by Keith, I have to disagree. Collecting interest is unknown, think of the countless artists that suddenly become 'hot' posthumous. Only time will tell how the market settles for all of these items, you may be right...
  13. Sorry, i'll get on it...I might send the number two yellow to CGC...I almost wanted to send that seller an email when i saw how ridiculous his BINs were. I agree with what you guys are saying about maybe paying $50-$100, I don't think these published by Wizard are worth anywhere near a Black, let alone the 'out of this stratsophere' asking prices he's looking at. I'm sure he also paid $15 a pop for them, ....p.s. down to just two now! Anyone have a #3 yellow?
  14. Sorry just caught this now, might send that black three off to CGC...what do you guys make of this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ULTRA-RARE-MAXX-1-2-BLUE-TEST-COMIC-CGC-9-8-LTD-TO-10_W0QQitemZ120531907796QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c1042f4d4
  15. I went back and checked the numbers after seeing a few people comment on them...the only number i was wrong was with the number one red with 1500 - i said 1400. The number 2s i posted were accurate.. Blue - 800 Red - 500 Yellow - 150 Black - 50 Those are realistic because the number twos don't pop up nearly as often as the number ones....i've only seen 2 number two yellows compared to at least 7 or 8 number ones. Speaking of number three yellows, does anyone have one?
  16. Yes, with the exception of the blacks, all colors have decreasing print runs after issue 1...i'm not 100% of these numbers but i think it breaks down like this... Blues - 4000, 800, 500 Reds - 1400, 500, 350 Yellows - 500, 150, 100 Blacks - 50 I don't know what to tell you about valuations, they seem all over the map for maxx ashcans...one minute ppl are paying $100 for a red#1, the next you wouldn't find a buyer at $35, i have my price points but i'm not willing to divulge that And of course condition is a big factor as most ashcans are pretty beat up...
  17. Thanks for your input...yes this is the last black that i need and aside from the number one and two red (which should be easy to acquire cheap if i'm patient) - i'm short only the number three yellow (i might be waiting awhile on that!). Replying to what you were saying on the set, i could see how i might pay 'any amount' for that one to complete the set, especially if i have 11 of the 12 and have been looking for awhile. Conversely however, the big buyers willing to shell out cash for the maxx ashcans are still very limited. I'm obviously not gonna shell out big money to get extras and of course knowing others here are looking for these two i'll gladly step aside...this could be one of those things that a lot of collectors just ignore thinking, 'it's so rare i'll never find one and i'm comfortable with that...' Only time will tell...You never know, someone might find a pile of black number 3 lying around, it's happened before
  18. Yeah I was hoping that search would help me out a bit there, i know i've missed some great deals on the past because of ebay's fickleness....to be honest i'm probably not gonna part with this guys, since i've almost completed the set....and my snipe was substantially higher, so if someone would have outbid me, they would have paid through the nose
  19. Yeah i bought that one and his yellow too...i'm surprised it didn't go for more.
  20. I read somewhere that many of these were intended to be gifts for friends and family (the number one blues were probably for the fans), but who knows exactly... Does anyone happen to have extras of the 1 and 2 red that they'd be willing to trade? I have an extra number 3 red I'm offering as bait.
  21. So you have number 10, you would think there has to be at least a few somewhere numbered 1-9 still floating around?
  22. Hey guys rehashing this thread instead of starting a new thread...what do you guys think of this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120468662722&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT The offer price doesn't seem that bad consider what a black would go for (of course this is released by Wizard and not Image)....surprised no offers have been made yet?
