  1. Come on down out of the nosebleeds. 8.0's are perfectly acceptable (at least to me) and are far more affordable than all those high grade copies and still present very well. My run averages about 7.75, (Excluding the 83, which I'll wait awhile for till the current fervor is over...) it costs a small fraction of what it would have cost in 9.0/9.2 average. Overall, I'd hazard a guess that it would be at least 10X as expensive and even that may be conservative. For instance, I cannot imagine what one of the 9.4 84s would go for if they ever hit the market. A 9.4 just hit eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Journey-Into-Mystery-84-CGC-9-4-Purple-Label-/310308271663?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483fd0762f#ht_1495wt_1141 Restored, though One of the owners of an 8.5 ow 84 is entertaining offers starting at $2,467 on Heritage... Kevin's been selling his high grade JIMs on eBay (#6 registry set)(I'm the happy new owner of his #85) but now I'm broke...I'm relegated to the bench with the Clink and Heritage auctions about to go live...I'll cheer you on, though. Even that is impressive. There are only three 9.4s total, including this one restored copy. I suspect we won't see one of the blue 9.4s for a very long time. Captain Tripps has one of them. Frankly, it's possible that there is only one blue 9.4. That one may be a resub.

  3. Dan is top-notch. Bought a really nice TOS 65 from me and paid promptly. No muss no fuss. (thumbs u ML
  4. I prefer not to think about it. Honestly, may not be that bad as my cut off was 7.0 and I believe yours was 8.0. The annual I was willing to overpay for it because it was the grade that I wanted, but It does have a miswrap that made me not go crazy. I probably cost you 15 bucks or so. I'm glad you were able to complete your run. Now you can upgrade and sell me your undercopies.
  5. The incremental approach is the one that I took. I was fortunate to pick up most of the run before Thor really took off with the movie hype. In looking at the census, copies have been pouring in over the last year 7.0 and above. 90 is still difficult but about about a dozen high grade copies have been added to the census in the last year. The truly toughest books are 84 and 91. Both of those are very challenging.
  6. Well, now I know who beat me out of that JIM Ann 1 on Heritage tonight. Congrats! That's also the last one that I need. Though that will just complete my run, I still need a half dozen upgrades to have the whole run in 7.0+.
  7. Grats, I found a nicely centered #100 hard to find in this grade range and ended up spending more than I wanted to on a 8.5. Thanks! 100, though there is really no justification for it, was tough for me. Ended up being the very last regular series book I obtained of the entire run. I have a half dozen or so I want to upgrade and the annual to pickup. But the 100 always seemed to sell over GPA and I was trying to pick it up at or a little cheaper. I saw a ton of 95s which are supposed to be a lot tougher. This one was tougher.
  8. A couple more additions that just rolled in. Ebay's been good to me over the last week for JIMs.
  9. It's got the weak URC, but I still think it could make 7.0. It's a pretty nice book.
  10. And some raws. (I've since replaced them all but the 88 with slabbed examples.)
  11. Alright, I'm getting so very close to completing the run. Need the Annual now and ... that's it! Here's some new additions.
  12. Ummmm.... Yeah. Mine doesn't look like those...
  13. That book sure presents better than a 3.5. Nice! DR.X Oh yeah!! NIIZE Michael!! Thanks Tom. One of my all time favorites!
  14. Thanks all; only run I own. I have a nice silver age/mostly Kirby run of Thor thru issue #181. The 83 was a slabbed 6.0; one grader gave it a 6.5. They didn't like that pen mark between the "E" and "R". There is also a fugly 1/2 inch tear on the edge of the back cover. For the most part the run is 6.0/6.5 to 9.0 getting better as the run progresses. Beautiful set Battle! Indeed a nice set. You're inspiring me to completion. I'm only 5 books away from completing my Thor JIM run. Can't wait to put the last few in the registry. Hah! I also need 5 books to complete the run. I need 88, 92, 95, 96 and 100. I might upgrade some of the others, but that's the plan right now. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. What kind of condition are you looking for? I need 90, 91, 94, 95 and 119. I'll do the same for you. I'm looking for 7.0 minimum books. You have a grade minimum? I know I've sold dupes of 90 and 119.

  16. Beauty! My favorite cover of the run! And one I need. Got an under-copy? Here it is: Ummm... Someone may be a hoarder... By the way.
