  1. Impressive! Though I'd take the CGC out of the plastic sleeve for the picture. (thumbs u yeah, that pic was taken about 1 1/2 years ago, I have learned since then, and added all but 60 and 64 to the group....28 out of 30 ain't bad, but man, they are tough to find!
  2. I understand your pain. It took me a loooong while before finding a measly decent copy of # 52. WW is tough run. Question to you and Rick: which is tougher: WW or Sensation? well, I finished my WW 1-80 with quite a bit of effort....WW2-10 are generally scarce, but Sens 2-10 are much scarcer... ww 11-40 are pretty easy and readily available (if you are not grade conscious)....Sens 11-40 are tougher than ww, but most can be found... WW 40-80 are down right HARD to locate, period... Sensa 40-80 are actually easier to locate (much easier) than WW in that range... I stop WW at 80, due to GA end... sens 80-106 are tought to find, period! so, overall, sensations is a tougher run...I have WW 1-80, and of the 1-106 Sens, I have 90 issues and am missing 16 to finish....but, financial pressures will have me selling most of the WW and most of the Sens (sorry BB, I am really only keep my Peds, Rockfords and Crippins) rick
  3. except for the 2 issues I got from you, all mine are gd/vgs at best!...a real accomplishment, no doubt!!!! actually, I have a couple of Crippins (84/86) that are high grade...I forgot about those Why don't you downgrade and sell them to me at some point in time. You didn't buy those off heritage did you? If so those were the 2 books that I couldn't get my bids in on time. I was waiting until the last minute then Heritage wanted my password and credit card info when I placed the bids. By the time I got it all in it was too late. I was very upset that night. Ask thedude. I called him up and told him the story. I believe I got the a mini run of crippens off heritage, like 74-86, except the 85, it wasn't offered, I don't think? the 84 and 86 were already cgc'd, the 74-83 were not, but should be soon... So it was you! Oh well, it was Heritage that didn't let get the bid in on time.
  4. a bunch of nice high grades in the heritage auction... I am thinking of reliquishing some of mine (I have some nices ones in the 50-80 range)

  8. Nice! I like this cover as well. The art looks like a cross between Gustavson and Lou Fine. great observation...one reason I love the earlier centaurs is because of gustavson...but, as all know, one of the great forms of flattery is "copying of ones style"...and straus worked on issue 4,5 and 5/6, taking a lot of influence from gustavson...a wonderful title! rick
  9. this is a common misconception that I have noticed, largely, I guess, do to the overall #'s of available batman 1 vs marvel1...but, in looking at the census, there are 10 copies of Marvel 1,in cgc 6.0 and above...there are only 15 copies of batman 1 in cgc 6.0 and above...so, I would say that yes, Marvel comics is "rarer", but not by as much as some folks think, if we are being grade conscious... Good point. When I looked at the census I was suprised by the total Batmans (110) vs. Marvel Comics (39). I would have expected more graded Batmans since they are always popping up and less Marvel Comics since they seem much less frequent. Many of the same copies change hands. Mine has been tucked away in my collection, and came from an original owner. It won't be sold until my daughter sells of the estate....... when I got back into collecting, what, 3 years ago, I felt the same way...I wouldn't sell any book...but, as financial contraints apply pressure, in order to move forward, sometimes you have to let go of the past... in just these less than 3 short years, I have seen every book I would ever want, sell muliple times...leading me to my newer collecting philosophy of sell the old, to buy the new , and maybe revisit an old friend now and again!
  10. Those books are going to get some serious competition, that is a nice looking 5.5 on the 71. I paid well over guide for my 6.5 cgc blue #71, so it will be fun to watch the bidding on this one
  11. From my experience 60% or so of Superman collectors are interested in World's Finest. A much smaller percentage of Batman collectors are interested in World's Finest (other than the Joker covers). From 100 on there are no rare or scarce issues, though some from 100 - 140 or so are tough in grade. The issues that skypinkblu talked about earlier, and particularly 50 - 70 are incredibly tough to find, and near impossible in grade. These issues are the only ones of the entire run that I would consider "over guide" books (with the exception of ultra-high grade slabbed). I will agree here...I am 2 books short (60 and 64) of completing the run from 50-80....and, to find "any" copy is sometimes an accomplishment (I Have yet to find a gd or better 60 and 64)...but, in high grade, you are looking at big money, as even a small demand outweighs a much smaller supply

  13. You almost made me drop my coffee! just wanted to show my pulp brothers that I, a self confessed and self diagnosed comic geek, was willing to expand my horizons and do a little "research" on pulps, and the fascination surrounding!
  14. this is my only pulp....found at a flea market this past weekend...
  15. Detective 27, Didn't the Black Bat pre-date Batman? This is the second Black Bat (from Nedor) that appeared about the same time as the DC version. The villain in this story was called the bat man. He had a gun and wore spectacles. I like Batman but I wonder who started first. Was it comics or pulps? Bruce Tec 27 predated the pulp by about 4 months, but I am sure they "preyed" on each other...
  16. Welcome to the boards! because you know you love it... I still get dizzy when I look at that book
  17. Geez - I feel like a noob compared to so many of these other folks. Since landing here, I have really enjoyed these boards - a lot of good people here. And a lot of good books to see and talk about. that's what it is all about!
  18. well, if you put it that way...never mind, I still ain't posting the
