  1. Hi all, I have read this topic several times, looked up availablity of all the scanners mentioned and also looking for the most affordable scanner that seemed to get some of the best results. I ended up buying a Scanjet proffesional 8300 for $92 including shipping off of eBay. Here is a test scan using stock setting at 300 DPI, no enhancements. I am using it on Windows 7 but is also suppose to be compatible with Vista and XP.
  2. Before I pressed it: After I pressed it: Kept the pedigree
  3. I was doing a search on Primer looking for an old post of mine and didn't realize there was a thread dedicated to primer so I thought I would post this #2. I think it was cool that I saved this book from not being desired using a standard pressing technique.
  4. In the interest of full disclosure this book has been pressed and here is some before and after photos showing the main defects that pressed out.
  5. +1 Dan +100 Agreed. The irony is the E-Gerber back boards are the same price as the others so it's a no-brainer. Surprisingly E-gerbers doesn't sell MCP so any links to where this could be bought would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Incorrect. For books in the grade range of 6.0 and lower it will still get a blue label provided the staples are vintage and that is the only thing done. In grades higher than 6.0 it will receive a qualified grade. I had a MS 5 9.0 with a purble label Maybe it had other work done on it? Or maybe that was an older submission as CGC changes how they treat certain things over time. I have seen replaced staples in both blue and green and can't make heads or tales of it. I think most people would consider it restoration and therfore value it less than if it had the original staples but not by much. Replaced staples is still better than say a married cover which gets a green label as well as long as thats all that was done to it. I myself would never recommend replacing the staples unless the book was getting restoration/conservation anyways but I think it was a more popular thing to do back in the 60's as was tape, extra staples and leaving the staples out all together to avoid rust and wear on the staple areas.
  7. The Superman #172 and Aquaman #46 books above should be a QUALIFIED 9.2 and 9.4, respectively. The key visual being that the defects on the label are described in ALL CAPS, which is only for Qualified defects. I have seen other books where the label color was wrong but the census had it correct. From the Superman 172, though, the label is blue and the census lookup shows that in fact it was graded as universal. So then it is a mistake on the label and the census? Surely no book could grade a 9.2 with a cover detached at one staple, right?
  8. I was thinking the same thing, it's a real shame CGC decided to give it a green label because it has a unverified sig.
  9. No, I don't think so, but this is what I think you mean. You are correct. Thank you for helping to clarify my statement.
  10. Pressing doesn't kill comics, people kill comics. In some situations like a fold or a spine roll pressing might actually help prevent damage.

  12. Which one do you want grades on? I am hesitant to grade here since my grades can be a little rough. One thing I want to point out is these were one owner books stored since 1965 (except 51,64,68,92 and have high gloss and colors.
