Also best to visuslly confirm the crease really doesn't break color if in an inked area, notes don't always include "color break" in noted defect. 😉

Hi all,
I want to marry a back cover with my otherwise complete Amazing Fantasy #15 and was wondering if any other comics from around the same time have the same back cover, inside and out? I’ve been able to find plenty of comics with the same back cover outside, a lot seem to be from other publishers, but don’t know about the inside cover.
Alternatively, if you have a decent looking AF15 cover only for sale I’d love the opportunity to buy.
Thanks guys and I look forward to hearing from you.
Pete
You can use another back cover from just about any Marvel from the same month. Romance is about the only except. Make sure the coupon code matches, and you have a match.

Surprisingly, you can accomplish a lot of DYI projects from YouTube videos, but comic book pressing is not one of those. Anyone willing to share their process is either not doing it right, or not sharing all the information needed to do it correctly. Part time effort won't cut it in many cases, you need to be in it as a career if you seriously want to pursue pressing, and that pie is continually shrinking, so good luck if you decide to do so. As others have mentioned, doing it for fun would be okay, except these books end up in the market at some point. Not to mention you won't have many comic friends if they know you are ruining good books, by pressing or any other action.

Others may suggest more stringent criteria, but my opinion is anything over 2.0 in grade, and under $1500 in value will not make a good restoration candidate. Also, not every candidate that fits my minimum requirement is still a good candidate, every book is different. Exceptions could be tape removal, or conservation.

CGC wont label what you are speaking of as "re glossed", those are natural occurring elements found in paper and comics. It's the thick, fixative, harmful sprays/lacquers that CGC pegs as re glossed.
Maybe this is true now, but this has not been my experience in the past.

Yes, yes it can.
What changed? You use to say foil covers couldn't be pressed?
-
Usually ink bleed through is along the spine where the paper is weakest. If none exists along the spine, then in the middle of the cover color touch bleed through as unlikely.
-
Reglossing can simply mean that the natural gloss has been restored to the cover using the original glossing material, gelatin or methylcellulose, both are used for sealing in color touch, and replacing what is lost during the wash process.

Or you could pay to have it restored correctly if you have the extra scratch and time to wait. Might yield you a little extra return, but never anything like the unrestored copies.
This, get it up to 6.0-8.0, and see a much better return.

Did I fall asleep at the wheel, I don't see signatures at the bottom of people's post anymore. Is there some special setting that I'm missing, or did that feature get eliminated?

I was just about to start a thread on this very topic and company, good thing I did a search first.
I’m on the fence too. Don’t have to many high grade books but hope to in the future. Things can and do happen so it’s disappointing to hear that they don’t want to renew your policy considering that’s what insurance is for. It’s their right yes, but what’s the point of you can’t use it again?
Did you get another policy with a different company or just relocated the collection?
I have CIS, and I find they are great for a dealer policy. However recently I found a better deal for personal collections. These guys are backed by a big Fortune 500 company, but much less rate.

Wouldn't work for the first imported cent copies I bought from a local bookshop here in the UK, when I started collecting seriously in 1977. The prices were gouged into the back cover in hard lead pencil, so aggressively that it negated the point of using 'removable' pencil in the first place. Maybe a good pressing would work instead?
We can remove writing indentations, but only trial would reveal if the lead would come off completely. I seem to remember some sever lead imprints leaving a trace. There are impression removal examples on our site.

I remember when dealers at comic conventions had their books in cardboard boxes..... no bags and boards ….. and the price for the book was written in pencil on the back cover.... usually less than 10 dollars. You also had to keep them organized and out of sight at home, or your Mom would throw them away. GOD BLESS....

I wish I could say I remember those days, but I never participated in that. What I can say is that now I'm dry cleaning most of those prices off the back covers. LOL

This is a topic about the good old days, what topics do you remember in the good old days worth heated discussions about, that now gets a thread easily locked for?
I remember the days when you can talk about your dissatisfaction, whether it was with cgc, someone else or some other presser. you could talk about restoration or pressing or grading, without being censored.
What do you miss?
Times have changed, I get it, just reminiscing. It's Friday night! Remember those days!

Got an outside the box question - if a piece of the cover is just folded back, but not missing - does that still effect the grade?
I've got an FF1 with little Kevin’s signature up top, and wondered what folding back the top a bit would do to the already low grade. Since the piece is still there and not missing, does it effect it?
Please just send to us for pressing manipulation.

Green label books do nothing but enlist confusion, best to go for blue or purple.

I have used tape numerous times on early books that are a .5 Poor or 1.0 Fair (All Raw) to keep them from falling apart even more when handled.
Tape is not going to affect a book in this grade and I personally have no issue with it.
Shame on you! Tape erodes paper!
Bends on multiple books???
