  1. That's it, all CPR is on hold! Seemed like some tiers were fine except express and walkthrough, but now it is bad across the board. That is a lot of books we're going to have to not send in, and back to owners. It's clear to me now the books that have been getting 2 grade bumps have been getting short changed, something I have suspected for a bit now.

As one of the catalysts for this post, I'm also curious. I had multiple books that were graded in 2019 (by CGC), not even a year ago, come back a grade down and the pages went from OW/W to C/OW after a press and clean.

I really think if this is a CGC issue, where the standard is raised and books are being graded more strictly, it kind of changes the entire market, where literally every book that was previously graded before 2019 has an inflated grade according to the new scale. Like, is it possible the grader just had a bad day?

Seeing the same thing, slabs from 2019 dropping in PQ, and in grade. I am to the point I think it is best to hold off cracking slabs, especially express and walkthrough, sucks to spend a lot, just to get a drop for book that is clearly better than the first grading.

Agreed.  Who will press Modern Age books beyond 1997?  So few key issues in late 90's to early 2000.  2004 Walking Dead #1 is easily pressed due to non-glossy white/black pages.

We press tons of post 2000 shiney's. Plenty of keys there to press, but you might be surprised how many modern books are sent in for a press and grade, with values as low as $5, or that is what it says on the form, I am not a modern market follower.

Any book can be pressed except few before 1995. Modern comic books has glossy inked pages that stay white pages and are not friendly to the pressing environment. After a brief pressing, all pages are sticky together and the book is solid hard like a cardboard so the pages have to be separated somehow.

The temp just needs to be turned down, paper prefers "less is more".

I thought it was impossible to do that

Yeah, I thought so too. My observations of life is, everything is impossible until someone figures it out.

Been so busy pressing my brains out, I haven't had the time to do the research.

They don't go away every time, and I'm not sure why it works half the time and the other time half of the time it doesn't, yet.

I don't think the mods crack down on this. WHile they're affiliated, CGC and CCS are not the same company.  You wouldn't be naming a direct competitor of CGC.  It would be like mentioning a different coin grading company.  Maybe not the favorite thing of the mods, but so far I haven't seen any cracking down on it.

I believe this to be the case as well.

Looks like it could be a coffee stain.

Take a clean q-tip and wipe the area that is affected the worst. If it wipes off easily it could be molds that grew over the stain.

Quick tip to get the heavy surface mold off is use an artists brush to gently wipe away what you can off the surface. The brush should be medium stiffness to the bristles.

If you plan on getting it graded, do not use any type of cleaner on it, as it will come back conserved or restored.

Almost looks like coffee and coffee grounds. If so, just brush off the debri and call it a day. I would be willing to look at it in hand if you still think it might be mold.

There it is. Or, as the French, and Tony Stark, might say...

It's not we want less, but CGC wants us to know less, and call even less. Example: Remember when you used to be able to see the grade and the type of label it was going to get before it shipped? Then you could call if something didn't seem right.

I totally get it, cgc gets a ton of calls a day, and they're just trying to find ways to streamline their customer service, and processes.

Hopefully a biproduct of these changes equals faster TaT's.
