  1. I haven't been to a HPB in a couple of weeks, so I haven't seen the calendars yet this year. I don't remember the $50 threshold to get the calendar before, I thought they just threw them in the bag for free, but it's possible I was spending that much every time I went! Or it's possible that my HPB was just friendly because I'm in there a lot, so they threw the calendars in because I'm a swell guy. Who can say? Like @ADAMANTIUM said, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get one, but 10% off is better than nothing. I tend to end up with two or three of them every year, and I just cut the coupons out and toss them in the glovebox of my car. That way, if I happen to be in a HPB and find something I want, I'll have that 10% off, which isn't amazing, but every little bit helps!
  2. Musical and non-musical theater fan here. I live in Louisville, KY, quite a distance from New York. So, we have to make do with traveling tour show productions of the big musicals. The big shows (Hamilton obviously being the biggest of late) sell out their entire runs in no time flat, and even tried and true touring shows like Phantom, Cats, Les Miz, etc tend to sell out quickly. Louisville is a great theater town, though. In addition to the touring productions that come through the center for the arts, we also have our award winning Actors Theater of Louisville, and other smaller local theater companies. Musical theater is alive and well across the entire nation. Different strokes for different folks. I have no idea how anyone could sit through an entire NASCAR race without blowing their brains out, but hey, it's not for me, and that's fine.
  3. I love this cover whenever it pops up. I don't collect Christmas books, but one of these days I'm going to have to track one of these down.
  4. Yeah, he was the star of that set for sure. I've already got a complete Black Spidey, so this one goes into the storage bin, until such time as he is needed for trade or sale, nestled in among several Doctors Doom with faded paint!
  5. I got the first Uncanny X-Men Masterworks (which I think was #11 overall) for my birthday the year it came out. I eventually got it signed by Claremont and Cockrum. I don't have a lot of the stuff that I owned at that age, but I've never let that book out of my sight.
  6. Yeaaaaaah. Margot Robbie is a cutie but this is going to be a hard pass for me.
  7. @Aweandlorder talkin' my language! Hoard the classics AND the drek while the speculators are looking somewhere else. Lots of great stuff there, love seeing those big piles of books!
  8. Love it! I have several of the old Marvel press posters, this is one I need!
  9. Another day, another lunch break meet-up with some dude from FB to buy old toys. Nice little Secret Wars set. The Magneto and Doctorpus (TM) are rough, but the Black Spidey is nice, and I was most pleased with Doom and Classic Spidey as their paint decos are in nice shape. Usually the black detail is all rubbed off on these figs. These two will be upgrades for the personal collection.
  10. Love it, and love reading about it. Voltron always confused me as a kid, and this may explain why!
  11. Oh, it's long gone. I'd love to hold it again myself!
  12. Oh, I love Stars, that's so cool that you have your stash of Canadians, you should post up some pics! I used to chase Star books in HG but it eventually gave up. I think I still have Chuck Norris and his Karate Commandos lurking around here somewhere... Oh yeah, I'll talk copper junk all day long, I don't need much provocation! And you can't go wrong with What If, plus most of them are still dirt cheap, so there's lots of good reading out there!
  13. I haven't looked in a while, but the marvelmasterworks.com forums used to have a forum for custom binding. Lots of folks out there who are really into it. I've considered it many times over the years. If any of you are interested, I'd suggest heading over to those boards and poking around, lots of good info. I may break down and have all of Giffen LoSH stuff (particularly the 5YL stuff) custom bound at some point, because I don't think DC is ever going to get around to it, the jerks. Ok here it is, a link to the Homegrown Hardcovers binding forum. Get to readin'! https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/marvelmasterworksfansite/uncollected-editions-the-homegrown-hardcovers-bind-f2/
  14. We have a lot of friends over, and they are mostly overwhelmed by the amount of stuff, but most don't care much about the individual pieces. The only comic I've had that genuinely impressed the common folk was when I still had my AF15. I had a few friends who just wanted to hold that one, which was cool.
  15. Yup, there's the standard, a silver ink, and a copper ink. @porcupine48 as far as copper era thirds with different covers, nope, that's all I can think of, the Hulk you mentioned, the Surfer 50, and NM 100. There are bunches of third prints that aren't identifiable by the cover, like the Joes you mentioned, and Transformers, some Star books like Thundercats, and any books that went into those copper era multi-packs. But as far as different thirds with different cover variations, nothing is coming to mind! This is the part where someone comes in and tells me that I'm wrong! In moderns, of course, there are bunches, but I don't follow those.
  16. This link may help you https://www.lego.com/en-us/service/replacementparts/order I've had to place a couple of orders in the past. They sent them completely free of charge in a nice envelope with a friendly apology letter.
  17. You can also order missing pieces via their website, you can enter the kit # and select the piece you need, and they'll ship it right to ya! Over the years I've had a few kits that arrived with a piece missing. It happens. More often, though, I have a ton of leftovers...I'm chalking that up to user error, though!
  18. That's great bud, I love that cover too, all three printings! Congrats!
  19. As an Alien collector myself, that is super cool! I guess it comes down to display preference. If you are wanting a slabbed set, then having this one raw may bug you down the road. But personally I think it looks pretty snazzy as is!
  20. Thanks! Yeah, the cool thing about the shop is you truly never know what you'll find in there. They'll buy (and therefore sell) pretty much any vintage toys, just depends on what folks bring in. It can be feast or famine, but I pretty much always jump on Joes when I see them as they tend for price them fairly.
  21. Thanks man! I was pretty shocked to see the mask just randomly tucked in with some clearance priced bronze books, on the opposite side of the store where I found the CB magazine. Man, I love that early Alan Davis stuff! But yeah, for $10 and 25% off, In couldn't get the mask to the register fast enough! I'm thinking they didn't really know what it was, which leads to the question of why someone sold it to them so cheap in the first place! Anyway, it made my trip to the shop worthwhile! As for the Action Force, I've always dug them, but I just don't see them around here, ever. It's a little rough, but for the price I had to bring it home. Would love to find some more on the cheap.
  22. My meager Black Friday pickups from the 25% off sale at my LCS. Nothing exciting, but they're all pretty clean even if missing a couple of pieces here ana there. Paid about $10 for the Maggot at $7 ea for the rest, so I thought that was fair. I hate to leave Vintage Joe stuff behind, even the less cool stuff.
  23. Love it!!! I used to collect boots and KO's, and I had the "Sabretooth" from this set but never found the others. This is toooo cool!
  24. LCS had a 25% off sale for Black Friday that coincided with their RSD sale. I was too doped up on turkey and NyQuil to drag my out of bed when they opened at 8am, so pickings were slim, but I did grab a couple of fun mags and a Kirby beater. The real fun find was the unpunched Captain Britain mask, sitting all by its lonesome in the back of a bargain box. Never had one of these before and don't see them often. Now I guess I need a Captain Britain 1 to go with it!
