  1. The cover prices are a big part of the problem, as is Overstreet, which won't list the value of any comic as less than cover price. This is why so many collections on Craiglist, etc are so grossly overpriced. Overstreet may say your collection is worth $3 a book, but in the real world I'd only give you about 10 cents per book, if I wanted to buy them at all.
  2. I worked at a comic shop about 20 years ago, and it was never easy to break it to someone that their comics were essentially worthless, because you're not only dealing with their unrealistic expectations of value, you're also dealing a blow to them personally. For many of these folks, these are the comics they lovingly collected and put away, and to have someone tell them that their beloved belongings have no value is not just a sobering reality check, it also comes across as something of a judgment of them, or at least of their taste. (Or by extension, a judgment of the relative who passed away, who they loved.) It's not easy for people to hear. These aren't stocks and bonds, or imaginary widgets that have no purpose other than to be bought and sold. Comics tie so strongly into nostalgia, it's a bit of a personal blow to be told that what you have held onto is actually garbage. Nowadays, what I deal with in this regard is my family and friends who knows that I "sell comics on eBay" and that I occasionally do all right with it, so they all want to be amateur comic buyers. My sweet mother-in-law will call me all of the time with comics she's found in antique malls and the like, or my sister in law will find buy comics at the Good Will thinking she's hit pay dirt, or my office mate will ask me how he can get in on the action. It's just so difficult to make people understand that the vast majority of comics that have been printed throughout the history of time are, in fact, almost completely worthless. It's like they want me to give them a tutorial on how to know a comic book is worth something, and it's just impossible to explain that it's a matter of supply vs demand vs condition, and that there are no simple rules for whether or not a comic is worth anything, so unless you've been doing it your entire life like I have, it's best to just leave it alone.
  3. I don't do SS, but I do occasionally get a book signed for my own personal collection. (I don't do SS because to me an autograph is a memento of my meeting someone whose work I admire. Since I got it signed, I know that it's legit, and I'm not selling it, so there's no reason to convince anyone else that it's legit.) At any rate, when I do get a book signed, I do the window and tape deal, because I'm a little OCD (aren't we all?) and want to keep the books in nice shape, as creators can be a little rough with them sometime. I'm not going to grade or sell the book, I just want to keep it nice? Brian Azzarello made fun of my taped up books, but even that won't sway me! (Though I admit that I cried for a little while.) (Ok, not really.) (Maybe.)
  4. The entire idea of Gwenpool only proves that comics are so far up their own that it's no wonder Marvel is hemorrhaging readers.
  5. Cool! I've actually never seen this one. I've been chasing Image newsstands lately, now I've got to add to my list!
  6. Oh , I completely spaced that this ever came out. Better see if I can catch up! I picked up a cheap collection last week, and it has near complete or complete runs of pretty much all of the old 90's Wildstorm stuff, so I'm sorta in the mood for these characters right now.
  7. Thanks everyone, appreciate the love! Sold and closed!
  8. Very easy to deal with, excellent communication, super fast pay, a true pleasure to deal with. Thanks so much and enjoy the book!
  9. Rick & Morty fans are rabid, the show has a tremendous following. Prices make sense to me. I like the show quite a bit, but don't care about owning the comic, so I'm off the hook on this one.
  10. Tec 57 sold via PM. Just one book left friends, grab it while it's hot!
  11. And that's it for now! Feel free to shoot me a message with any questions, happy to provide more pics or scans if you need them, and also open to offers. Thanks as always!
  12. And finally, another book I grabbed from Dale, Batman 45 - Fair/Good, pieces missing as shown, complete. SOLD!
  13. These two I just picked up from Dale Roberts thread a couple of months ago. Just looking to get back what I have in them, as I'm refocusing the collection. Tec 107 - Fair, complete, cover detached and pieces missing from cover SOLD!
  14. First up, Tec 57 I'm going to say that it's a solid VG, maybe VG+ to VG/F? Structurally I'd say it's a solid VG+ or better, very nice cover with bit of a spine roll (see back photo) and some spine dings. A small pencil mark near the Batman logo which is hard to see in the scan, and a smudge of some sort around the MIC in "Comics". Looks like maybe some sort of light foxing along the edge of the back cover and tips of the pages, may have migrated a little bit to the bottom or edge of the pages. Pages are nice, around off white, supple, no brittleness at all. So, to me it's a VG that presents like a VG+ or better. Couldn't find much sale data on this one. OSPG lists VG as $516. How about $500? SOLD!
  15. GA Tec and Bats! Hello all! The taxman has left a gaping hole in our hearts and wallets, so we must rebuild! Love these books, but I've only ever been a dabbler in GA. Time to send them off and concentrate on other collecting areas. Open to reasonable offers, I'm easy to work with. I had a Kudos thread on the old board...two of them, in fact...did they come over? Not sure. Regardless, I'm a member in good standing with many sales here over the years. If you need further references, I'm a 20 year seller on eBay with 100% feedback of over 5000, user id mrbobdobbs US Shipping is $10 double boxed priority. I'm good with International as well, but it'll be the exact cost of sending a 1092/1095 USPS priority box combo weighing about 1 lb your way. No Probs or HOS. Returns gladly accepted IF the books are not as described, if I missed something, we disagree on the grade, or book is damaged in transit. No returns just because you don't want it anymore. In thread trumps any and all PM discussions/negotiations. Just three books right now, thanks for looking!
  16. Shipping costs increase with every passing year. Meanwhile, eBay keeps pushing its sellers to ship for free, which is untenable for those of us who are not full time dealers. I charge what it costs me to ship. My prices with shipping are still generally cheaper than the lowest BIN with free shipping. If buyers can't do the mental math, I don't need their business.

  18. Cool, that was pretty much what I was thinking, but I wanted to float the idea out there before I stepped on any toes.
  19. Yeah, inclined to think sun fade now.
  20. That's interesting, I was just wondering today if the Ultimate books would ever be looked at as the modern equivalent of New Universe, just because I always find them clogging up bargain bins. Every dollar and 50 cent box in the country seems to be overstuffed with Ultimate stuff. I never read any of it, so I personally don't have a dog in the race, just my observation as a buyer.
  21. It's great stuff. I have a great deal of love and appreciation for Cockrum and Byrne, but Paul Smith will always be MY X-Men artist.
  22. Same. I'd prefer it to be original finish, but it looks like a clean paint job, so I'd be content to leave it be if it was just for my personal collection.
