  1. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to the GA club! Looking forward to expanding my membership, despite the protests of my wife and wallet!
  2. I had actually stopped going to the flea market altogether for many years because there weren't many books, except for drek. I happened to be in the area for the Memorial Day market, and was surprised by the number of dealers, so I put it back on my calendar. This weekend was mostly like what I remembered, only two or three dealers with anything worth buying, and only this one guy with the GA. He mostly had bronze and copper keys, with a smattering of SA, and a handful of GA books. He has a couple more GL's I'm thinking about, but they're a little nicer, and therefore pricier.
  3. Ha! The judges would have also accepted "If I found that Penny, I'd pick her up." or possibly something involving 'heads or tails' I think Revat wins.

  5. Posted these over in CG, but thought they might get more love here. Picked them all up from one dealer at the flea market. This one is super clean, and the colors are so great in hand. This one has a detached cover, but since it was about the same price as a coverless copy, and it still looks nice in a bag, I couldn't pass it up. And this one, beat but complete! I've only dabbled in GA in the past, but lately find myself having dangerous thoughts of selling everything off and putting it all back into GA! As a young man I just assumed that the books would be out of my range, but I've realized that there are nicely presenting low/mid copies available in my budget. Dangerous stuff! But I really love the size, the paper, and the colors. Thanks for looking! FFF
  6. Returned yesterday to the flea market where I bought the GL8. The same dealer had picked up a few more books in a trade. Couldn't resist these two. Obvious issues aside, this book is gorgeous. Super clean and the reds are so deep. Loving this book. This one is a heartbreaker, as it is a single staple book, therefore the piece missing at the spine has rendered the cover completely detached. Still, the book is complete, pages supple, and with that Simon and Kirby cover, I couldn't pass it up. My lesser finds are in the Flea Market thread. Thanks for looking! FFF
  7. Posted my nicer flea market finds in the This Week in Your Collection thread, but here's some other fun stuff I picked up. First some $1 Maxx books. Always surprised by the prices these bring Next, one guy had about five boxes of dealer stock going for $1 each. He had about 25 copies each of the first ten issues of X-Factor...minus 5 and 6, of course. Anyway, the books were all tremendously bright and nice, BUT many of them had foxing and mold. So I pulled out this small stack of clean books. Nothing amazing, but bright high grade bronze Kirbys for a buck each seemed fair. I planned to return and make him an offer on the rest of the stuff, but somebody beat me to it, as all of the boxes were gone yesterday. Another dealer is an old guy who had a store when I was a kid. He sells off his old store stock at 1/2 his original asking price, so Depending on how expensive/cheap the books were back in the 80's, that can be a good or bad thing. Picked up some super crisp Miller DD's at a fair price, as well as three sets of Born Again. One book shy of having a complete newsstand set at well! Conan lunchbox and a couple of Spidey 45's And lastly, these aren't comics, but I still like 'em.
  8. At a flea market? Damn! Yup, the big Stewart's Flea Market at the Fairgrounds, it used to be monthly, but now it's usually centered around holiday weekends. It's mostly junk, but there are two or three local comic collectors who set up there. To be sure I didn't pay a "flea market price", but I still got a good deal on it!
  9. Picked up a fun book at the flea market today. Beat but complete.
  10. They're really nuts, there were a few second prints out there, but I actually ended up with more 1:50 variants than anything (as well as a few 1:30 1:20, etc.). These are a steal at $4. I'm assuming that these were incentive variants that Marvel had printed more of than were sold/claimed by shops, so they sold them directly to this distributor. Some crazy good deals, and 99% of the copies I got are solid NM+, gorgeous books.
  11. 3 day auctions were always my preference, so the new $1 fee really chaps my . Ok, I know you all haven't been talking about it for a while, but I finally made it to a Five Below. I had no idea we even had these stores around here, but apparently they opened one in my parents' neighborhood a couple of months ago. I stopped in last night and picked up 10 of the 4packs. Ended up with TWO copies of the Ramos ASM4, several other variants in the $5-$20 range (Captain Marvel 1 Cassaday x2, etc.) and a big stack of drek. It was fun though, I may go back and clean them out. Also, FWIW, there was no pattern to the packages. My ASM4's came in two totally different packs (I think Original Sin 0 on the front of one, and Hulk 1 Donkey Kong variant on the other).
  12. This is: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8407600&fpart=3 Ah, I remember that one. Scud was such a great book. And yes, it looks like it was '95 and Bats was '98. Good one!
  13. Nice comic. Now if you just finish your 5000 word essay on "Why is Daredevil important to you?" your membership in the club is granted. I applied on 5/4/15, with pics AND a long story, but I'm still not on the list. I can post more long-winded stories, if that will help? Let's see...
  14. I am pretty sure the 1983 series which hector has above is worth a few hundred in grade. Obviously Primer no# 2 is the big Grendel book. Correct! And I have a Primer #2 also (got in a copper collection I purchased of pure indys) If it's 9.6 or better, gimme!
  15. I like the head sculpt in and of itself, but judging by the pics SST put up, it doesn't really seem to fit the body. Not sure what is off about it. Too big? Something, I dunno. But it's weird. Still, altogether it looks like a really nice piece. I will probably hold off on ordering because I don't care about the exclusive, and with it being a character like Wolvie, the edition size will probably be through the roof.
  16. Picked up a handful of raw mid/low grade SA Flash books at Derby City this weekend. Always loved this cover. This one was pretty sharp. These are low grade but I still love the covers
  17. Punch my tickets! Picked these up at Derby City Comic Con. The GSX is very bright and clean, has some spine issues but for copies in that price range, blew the other candidates at the show out of the water. It's still a lot nicer than the copies I've owned in the past. The X94 is beat but solid. Oddly, when I put together my first X-Men run, this was the one issue I never got around to picking up. It's nice to have one, even in this shape.
  18. Well, I can't compete with a 9.4, but here's my entry anyway! I had two copies previously that I sold last year, a GD+ and a VG. This one is maybe around F+. Figured I'd better pick one up before the nicer copies get out of my range. Love that yellow cover.
  19. While everyone else went to Heroes, I stayed at home and attended our own Derby City Comic Con. I went with the intention of picking up a IH181, but of the two for sale, one was overpriced and the other a little too rough. So, I went nuts and bought a bunch of nice lo/mid Bronze keys This All Flash 14 is taped but the price was right, as it is still complete and supple Some mid/lo SA Flash books. The Grodd issue is in particularly nice shape. Raided the 50 cent bins for some great old-school Adam Hughes covers (those Stargrazers issues have always been some of my faves. Reminds me of the Dave Stevens Planet covers) The 50 cent bins also gave up a gorgeous near complete run of Bolland WW's Some more 50 cent finds (remember when those LoSH Superboy issues were a big deal??) And the 50 cent find of the day It was a fun show. Also picked up a ton of Swamp Things, Animal Man, etc for my runs, at 50 cents each.
  20. Good ol' Sideshow. Yeah, I'm used to their song and dance, but with this particular piece I'm starting to take it personally!
  21. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I just got a message from SST re: the Daredevil PF. It's been pushed back AGAIN, this time to Aug/Sept.
