  1. Thanks. I'm not seeing the other defects that drop it below 9.0, what do you see? So you both disagree with @etanick's cheatsheet, that up to 1/4" tears (double this one) can get up to 9.2?
  2. It should, as in they look for that and will probably detect it, or it should as in your personal opinion is that a book cleaned with peroxide is restored?
  3. I have a book with a tear on the bottom edge near the spine. I measure it at 1/8". Anyone have any idea how much that will subtract from the grade? I saw a cheat sheet that said max 9.2 for a 1/4" tear but nothing for smaller than that.
  4. I was warned about cleaning too aggressively, so I'm wondering if stain removal with minute amounts of peroxide is something that will be an issue.
  5. What would you say without the tear? Also, I'm not sure if the size of the tear is apparent from the images, as it's a large-format book, so I measured the tear and it's 1/8".
  6. Small tear near the BC lower spine corner (you can see the black border broken). A mixture of scans and pictures.
  7. I've actually had some decent luck with an iron like that, lol. Low heat, keep it moving. But mostly I've been heating up an antique one that is solid iron. It just takes many many applications.
  8. Looking to get into more extensive pressing, but I don't want to spend a lot right away, any recommendations?
  9. I think there's a huge difference between "cleaned" and "restored" so you can't just lump them in together. I don't think anyone would object to cleaning with a pad to remove surface dirt. That's a far cry from, say, reconstructing a corner.
  10. I provided pictures of the staples. Was going by something like this: Popped Staple When one side of a cover has torn right next to the staple, but is still attached by the slip of paper beneath the staple. If not handled carefully, a popped staple can lead to a detached staple. It's possible it's not the right term.
  11. No special notes. Bindery marks inside. A fair number of color-breaking ticks.
  12. Thanks. The cover isn't detached, though.
  13. I did a press. I think the back spine is much flatter. What do you think now?
  14. Bumping this because I put the pictures in.
  15. Haha, I didn't know you don't go higher than 9.2. Thanks. Good catch, let me take a look at it. Thanks.
  16. Yep, I think they're also called that. Any opinion on the grade of the book?
  17. This video, which calls this issue spine roll, is incorrect? Wouldn't spine roll result in miswrap?
  18. It's a miswrap of course, just used the wrong word. Just googling, none of the other copies of this book have the staples on the front. But my question is, does it not affect the grade?
  19. This is the third and (I think) final copy of this book I have. This looks the best to me. I've included a couple 9.8s for comparison. One has the same issue around the lower staple, and one has fairly severe bindery marks as well.
  20. Does the spine roll not affect the grade? The staples are on the front.
  21. Thanks. Where do you think I should focus? Like the top and bottom edges? The corner creases look permanent.
  22. There's a crease near the outside bottom corner on both sides.
