  1. So whats going on with the for sale threads? Post going poof? Someone mentioned bad timing because of what happened last night?
  2. Thanks again for the great book Travis.
  3. Oh well, that’s debatable. ::toggle:: Funny you should mention it... Do you actually have what I consider one of the nicest boardies on the chat forum on ignore? +1
  4. Pretty sure it was Roy who told him not to make selling comics his bread and butter in a thread ages ago. I must've missed that. But then why keep sending him more books to sell? Something about a Dog in the Monkey house reaching the third moon of Capricorn over the Masonic Temple in Jonestown....made him do it. I've never understood how my life can be predetermined based upon when my parents decided to have sex. I blame a lot of my life on when your parents decided to have sex. I will bring this up to them - I will have a response for you by next week. There's WAY too much sharing going on in this thread.
  5. My problem is with boardies trying to act as if they know what publishers NEED and immediately equating it with FOC. As we have seen FOC really only represents some of the pie (I myself like how re-orders are ignored, but that is a small nit to pick). As a fan/spec n00b I wonder how digital tech has changed the game from the days when changing the plates influenced things, but I digress. What publishers need and how that need is ultimately represented by a "true" print run (and chasing that elusive number makes you more hapless than Ahab) is a shifting formula that changes for every issue of every title. We know so little and have no idea what we do not know. Arguing about the degree of unknown or how some element effects the print run helps little as well. (Or, in the immortal words of Bill Parcells "in some contingency event, all of which are hypothetical".) All very good points. However knowledgeable boardies have come on (on multiple occasions) and confirmed that the FOC numbers (as reported by Comichron) are not wildly different than what is ultimately printed. The FOC is there for a reason- and that reason (obviously) is to give publishers a very good idea of how many copies they need to order up from the printers. This really is just common sense, and I don't believe anyone has given a very good reason why using Comichron numbers as a baseline estimate is not, at the very least , a valid starting point. And then if anyone has any additional information to share about a particular book that might be helpful in modifying the equation, all the better. -J. Really? We must not be reading the same last ten or twenty pages because it seems like there's been a lot of additional information.
  6. A new low! Maybe i shouldn't be so shocked, but Where?
  7. The boardie was selling a book And thought he had quite a good hook. He added a fee A percent of just three But no one would give it a look.
  8. There was a seller whose fees were included His shipping and 3 percent not excluded He was asked why And made this reply Because the math would be too convoluted My first and most likely only attempt at a limerick.
  9. You are correct and I stand corrected. I made an insensitive remark regarding you Chip and for that, I am sorry. I apologize to you directly.
  10. Not this again. Would it be better to just list the book initially for $1,030 and not mention anything about PayPal? Would that make everyone feel better? Or, list the book for $1,030 initially and say "2.9% discount if you pay via check" (again with no mention of PayPal). Would that make everyone feel better? I always ask for a complete total. Shipping, everything, before I commit. I have no problem saying "No thanks, I'll pass" I was commenting on the math. As long as a seller sticks to the forum rules it's none of my business what they want for their books. Other than I'll take it or move on. It just looks silly when you actually do the math.
  11. Throwing up a book for 1K and asking for another $30 makes the math look petty.
  12. The book sold though, didn't it? Poofing a sales thread with a completed sale in it seems like a bad idea in case the buyer ends up having a problem with some aspect of the sale. Better to lock it, I think, and keep it around as a public record of the sale. +1 +2 wasn't it already scrubbed?
  13. Best new series and best writer. The art is really good as well but thats some tuff competition.
  14. While I understand your concerns Bob as long as you are paying with paypal you are still covered. I have seen an uptick with issues I have had with sellers this past 2 years. There are too many new sellers that really either don't grade, don't pack, or don't ship well. Now in my cases each time after I took the time to show the seller the mistake I was able to return the books. To his point above I don't think we should be able to do pre-sales or pre-slabs without the book in hand. I struggle to make a seller have to provide a picture too because a lot of $1 books don't need pics. Because it does chew up a lot of time. I am not sure how to draw the line there. A true feedback system here would be a nightmare for the mods. I think changes to the selling rules is the better route. Maybe a requirement of time as well on this board before you can sell as well. Some sort of concrete return policy in the thread as well. Thanks for the well thought out, friendly statement. - I totally agree there is no need for pics of dollar books. - I think pics should be a requirement on slabs, especially with the new 'Newton effect' in play. - If pics are not a requirement, then allow I'll Take it Pending scans vs charging an extra 10%. - I believe in being proactive, rather than reactive, so allowing Negative Feedback is not really appealing to me either. I would much rather leave kudos than complaints. - Recognizing the Return Policy is now a Rule, it is often ignored with no enforcement. These are all good points and I would add that if a buyer has an issue with a seller they can go the probation route. It's not perfect but It carries more weight than a negative feedback system.
  15. Is it just me or does this book take a while to get published? Hopefully, my LCS still has a couple when I finally make it there.
  16. Is it because of the bindery tears or something else? + 1
  17. Kinda silly to play dumb, when that answer is right in your sigline.
  18. I did the same thing and had 2 - 425 at one time (ended up selling a bunch). I posted about it in another Spidey thread here and the high grade snobs ignored my post. So don't get discouraged, congrats, and best of luck.
  19. Issue 1 2nd and third print (obviously, the same cover but different letter color)
  20. My Lord.... I'm wondering if they read the description "This particular copy has several minor spine breaks, including one around 1/8" long that slightly breaks color."
