  1. I’ve been a voyeur here for a few years (I was never a collector of Golden Age titles but I do love to look). I finally made my one and only golden age acquisition a few years ago to use up some store credit. I overpaid for this at the time (& probably couldn’t even sell it now for what I paid then) but I wanted to say I once owned the highest graded copy of USA #1 (although mine is restored and at the time there were 3 known unrestored 9.0s). Since then a 9.2 has appeared, dammit, but I still like pulling this out to look at from time to time.

Your USA is impressive! It is something special, and were it mine I'd gaze at it as often as daily. The Billy Wright copy went higher than I anticipated (others may disagree), but based on the price it brought and recent trends I think these books will hold or go up in value in the short as well as the long term. Thanks for posting!

  2. As for Cheetah ... keep up the good work! I am a little perplexed with the math on your WS #20, but who cares? If you only have $150 in it, I'd be more than happy to help turn you a quick 200 percent profit! :baiting:

lol It is all just a matter if self-justification and delusion. Whatever it takes to keep me moving.

  3. If and when possible Dukedog, I'd be beholdin' to you if could get me the info on the HOFs. I greatly appreciate that you, Adam and others are threshing out the certificate rankings (and grading) versus the CGC grades. For me, like many others, the number rankings mean very little, but the certificates themselves are of great importance from the provenance perspective, not to mention tying a little bit of the history together.

    Certificate ratio: 17 HOFs/12 certificates

As for the HOF #28 Dukedog, you know where it is. I'm not sure I'm willing to let it go just now, but I promise you first crack at it.

  4.

Absolutely agreed. Another GFC I'd love to get, if for the colors alone, is Haunt of Fear 28.

(This is one of the GFC's. 7 of 12, if the original source was correct.)

Hey! That's my undercopy, if I can really say that since I don't think of it that way. It remains raw and once in a great while I pull it and just to look at it; maybe open the top of the mylar to take in the aroma of newstand freshness. 28's are a little tougher to find in grade. 7 of 12 (thumbs u At least that's the Cert I have with it. This one I picked up from Stephen off the website. I also have one slabbed in 9.4. Marie Severin colors :cloud9:

  5. A much needed bump to the thread. It's been a while. I want to thank Cheetah for letting me pull this one from his collection. I am now over 50 % on the HOF Gaines run. Was wondering if anyone out there has added some new GFCs to their collection in the past few months and might be willing to share them here. I know Cheetah has. :gossip:

  6. Cheetah you going for complete sets of Gaines copies?

Yes. It will probably take a while but it seems like a pretty cool set of books to get.

As usual, some really pretty books Jeff! At risk of upsetting some non-believers, I don't think Gaines copies get the respect they deserve; principally because Bill Gaines had the foresight to lock away and preserve multiple copies of nearly all the issues. Gaines copies are some of the most pristine comics in the world ... hands down. They have the smell and feel of a newstand fresh comic. The art work is incredible and the colors are about as vibrant as any comic ever brought to market. Not to mention the stories! Good luck on your quest. Meanwhile, I keep working on my HOF run.

  7. No, the listings were simultaneous, but I was like the Whizzer getting through the SDCC preview night crowd to collar that puppy. :acclaim:

Of course the #21 :cloud9: wasn't a Super Soldier book, but after buying #19 the A-1 copy was just too tempting (must resist, ...must resist ...arrrrrgh!).

You did a fantastic job putting those two together in short order! :o Haha, and to be Borg about it. " Resistance is ... " Congrats again :whee:

  8. I have a soft spot for that issue. (thumbs u

My oldest brother had a coverless copy of the Fantasy Masterpieces that I read as kid. It's possible it wasn't coverless before I read it.

Here's the mate to that classic grail. I just couldn't resist, it pushed all my MANNUP buttons once I'd acquired #19 (alas, not from the Super Soldier collection, but one of my best SDCC snags)... :whee:

 Did you snag that 19 before it was listed on the Metro site? Yes, they certainly are a pair, two of my favorites! (thumbs u Sweet books. And so I continue my search for the illusive AW #19 :ohnoez:
