I remember seeing this one on Ebay.  Nice pickup! I really enjoyed the Gears story. The comics and novels did a great job at adding to it.  I have the 3 hardcover trades that have all the comics collected

Thank you. (thumbsu That's cool. I may have to grab a reader copy at some point. I like the Halo books as well. All those videogame books like Mass Effect, God of War, Halo, Gears..etc.. I'd like to put a small collection of them together eventually. Do the trades have the variant covers inside as well for each issue?

That was my first Ghost Rider I picked up off the newsstand back in 1973. I have a special affection for Marvel Spotlight #10,11 and Ghost Rider #1,2. I really feel they had a nice run of covers over those 4 consecutive issues of the character.

Those are all good choices and I really like spotlight #9 too. As a kid, I really liked Ghost Rider # 1,2 and especially Ghost Rider #9  as that issue was crazy to me back then. :luhv:

Nice pickup. I did get a 9.8 off of eBay earlier in the summer.

I did just get Gears #9 the Lee Variant which is supposed to be very scarce for the entire series. It is in 9.8 condition so it'll be one I'll be sending in at some point.

Thank you. It's a cool run for sure. Some of the gears covers are outstanding. Good luck with your sub on that 9 copy. :wishluck: :headbang:

This was extremely difficult for me and it came down to this:

I loved 50s Sci Fi and horror and this one captures that era along with the lost world genre. The “War that Time Forgot” reminds me of “Kelly’s Heroes” meets the “Land that Time Forgot.” I also remember taking my plastic army soldiers and tanks and used them to fight the plastic dinosaurs my mom bought for me off the spinning rack in the local pharmacy. I’m so happy we didn’t have computer games and smart phones back in the early 1970s. It’s a “place and time that I will never forget…”

Love dark backgrounds on books. Seems to highlight the artwork on cover.

All valid concerns. But remember, Ebay today has extremely robust buyer protection. You can return an item / request a refund for any reason, or no reason at all. If anything, I’m wary of *selling* there as much as I used to, since the protection is tilted so strongly towards the buyers.

Perhaps the tables have turned with the exit of a Paypal only option that once was? I've slowed down on Ebay drastically when certain changes were made and I dont sell on there anymore but I still buy a lot. Ive also been on Ebay since the 90's and while Ive had a very small amount of issues with sellers, that is likely attributed to buying from familiar sellers and in my personal opinion, staying away from what seems like risky purchases. So the general outlook in more recent times is that the buyer is now potected far more than in past times? Is this due to them handling the transaction side of things? I really hate passing books up that id like to buy because I want to avoid losing something like a 10k purchase because they side with the seller in the event he sends me a piece of a 2x4 instead of a book.

    +1!

Been buying on ebay continuously since 1998. It's the best site for comics, bar none. Probably 90% of my GA collection was purchased there.

Glad you've had success. I also know of a few people that had bought big ticket items and were burned. Everyone has their opinion. I buy from Ebay as well but when it comes to big ticket items and Im not familiar with them, I simply dont buy it. How often do we see fake listings on Ebay with some seller jacking someone's scan? So I'm wrong?

🤔 News to me as I’ve literally had thousands of positive transactions on eBay as both a buyer and a seller. Any losses have been made up with volume.

Reputable dealers on ebay are an exception. I should have added that the scenario usually applies to sellers that are virtually unknown and are trying to sell big books with little feedback. Also, there are several dealers on ebay that have tons of positive feedback that are constantly being called out for their selling methods. This doesn't apply to everyone of course.

    Just my opinion, but :

Not only did that book (a restored CGC 1.5) get sold for $2325, but it was that exact book that was sold for that price.

Understandable that you view it as a detractor. First, you're finding out that $70 is waaaaaay off the fair market value of what it actually is but at the same time, you're seeing a price hike from that last sale. A few things to consider.

As it's been pointed out, it's a tough book with all things considered. The second thing is, GPA (gpanalysis) is a great tool to assist in figuring out a real fair market value but it doesn't track certain sites that are known for selling the same books at higher prices than say...Ebay. A good example of this would be Comiclink.com. Many of the keys you see today are constantly hitting higher prices than the GPA lists simply because Comiclink.com and other similar sites don't report to GPA (though many do). Reasoning for this is because if you're buying a book for lets say, 10k...would you rather trust a website that's been in existence for several decades or some guy you've never met on Ebay that you have to trust with your big purchase? Many buyers prefer to buy from reputable sites for said purchases and will spend more for peace of mind. It isn't uncommon for a book to sell for a certain price and then a few months later, that exact same copy resurfaces to shatter the record sale it had only a few months ago. (see action comics 1 cgc 6.0 rocket copy for an example, though this is an extreme example) Books that are plentiful in all grades are one thing but the rarer higher grade stuff out there that's hard to obtain usually follow this same scenario.

I agree with the above statements though. Not a fan of trimming of any kind but if you're not looking to spend thousands more or you have the patience to hold out for a similar copy without restoration, maybe an offer somewhere in between the last listed price and their asking price is a good place to start. Good luck if you do decide to make an offer though. It's a cool book to be sure. :headbang:

Not my book but this sketch cover was used for this publication.  Probably the only instance that I can recall this happening but his works are so desired, it could happen again easily.

Wow...I was not aware of that. It really is a great sketch. Thanks for sharing that. :headbang:

Skaar 1 (one of the 2nd print variants) has the exact pic of the old Ed Norton Hulk on it as well. Very surprised they used that pic for a cover. Not the same instance but definitely reminds me of that.
