  1. If people only knew the half of it...it COULD be a movie or perhaps at least a book.
  2. that has to be the sharpest 5.0 i've ever seen.
  3. I agree. Holidays are definitely time for family. Ive always been kind of a kid on the holidays though and we both seem to have the same mentality. As long as the family is good and things are in check, we do what we can do to be happy. Not sure if my short story seemed offensive. It was merely to share what i thought was an incredibly thoughtful and well thought out gift. I usually play it out in a similar way with most family members. Better to ask what they need or want. Makes more sense to me that way.
  4. It is in the right place. Took me a second to find it. Nice and centered with white pages is nice.
  5. Been there in the past too. I've been fortunate in that respect in recent years though. True story... I believe it was Christmas day a few years back and my girl and I were driving and an officer pulled me over in my town. I was doing 25 (speed limit) as my car was a police magnet back then. I'm like...why? I pulled over and the officer was polite, asked for my license and reg and then I had asked what the issue was as I wasn't aware of any offense. He told me, no big deal, tail light is out. My girl is sitting there saying...I'm sure it will be fine. Its the holiday so maybe he will give you a break. The officer comes back over and said " nah your tail light is fine but someone wanted me to give you this". My girl set the whole thing up with the police station! Best surprise ever. I posted this somewhere when it happened. That's how I got my old copy. She's done similar set ups in the past too. Incredibly thoughtful of her. The pic I was holding was just a print out of the pic of the Hulk she bought me since it didn't arrive yet.
  6. Thank you! Soooooooooo happy to have a Hulk back. The FF 5 cover is dreamy too. I wonder if there's a "favorite Silver Age" covers thread? Curious to see what others out there like
  7. Back in the club. Not even home yet but still mine.
  8. Pulled the trigger on this last night. Been trying to replace past books and this was up at the top of the list. Sold my 7.0 a few years back and have wanted one back ever since. Luckily, it looks better than my old copy imo. Happy dance!
  9. I probably should have noted that. I actually bought the 9.9 from a seller on E-Bay as he was the owner before myself on the 9.9. The story was... I missed the auction and congratulated the winner and told them that if they ever decided to sell it, plz keep me in mind. True to their word, I'd guess a year or so later, they reached out to me on E-Bay and offered the book to me! I bought it without hesitation for under 1k at the time. I can say that at one point though, I was the only one with a copy in 9.9 . Yay! a 9.8 dressed up in a 9.9 guise. It made me happy at the time to have it so it served its purpose. Thanks on the Congrats. I really am happy to have a Hulk back.
  10. The 15 and 17 are especially nice. Great looking covers IMO.
  11. heh.. I sold that first 9.9 New Mutants 98 back in 2009 and this thread was born. It was the only one on the census at the time I believe. I was surprised to see it hit 12,250.00 back then, as were many on here. On the other hand, Pool has been one of my two favorite characters since his inception(still love you too Lobo). I'm not surprised by this sale at all. He's an incredibly popular character and while it was more than I expected it to hit...I'm not surprised, even if we weren't in the comics climate we are right now. In truth, I was going to attempt to buy it back last night since I had missed it but I ended up buying a hulk 1 7.5 instead. . Sold my old 7.0 a few years back and missed that too but between the two books, I missed my Hulk more.
  12. Agreed. It can get pretty brutal when the hammer drops. Either pass on the opportunity that may not present itself for years or pay up. 😆 There have been a few runs that I wanted to build but somw of these single digit census issues do make it challenging. I guess thats what makes it so rewarding when you finally find one though.
  13. Silver Surfer 9 9.8- looks like someone is putting together a high grade run and with only 4 copies, they must have been determined to complete said task?
  14. For the last several years, books such as Detective 359, Showcase 4, Showcase 22, Brave and the Bold 28, Showcase 30, Adventure comics 260, Action comics 252 and Detective 225, to name a few, have all seen hot streaks. While DC doesn't have as many "hot books" as Marvel at times, they do have their own keys that are always sought out by collectors. Many DC keys are also somewhat challenging to get high grade copies with high end page quality as well, which adds to their difficulty. DC has also had several Bronze books that have had their streaks as well. House of Secrets 92, Swamp Thing 1, Shazam 1, Shazam 28, Detective 411 (especially the last few 9.6, 9.8 sales) and countless others but when compared to the amount of "hot books" from Marvel, I understand how collectors can view DC as stagnant. If you take the time and really look around, you can grab some true gems out there in the DC sector. If DC ever hits their movie stride with Marvel consistency, chances are...their back issues are going to go ballistic. With many keys in short supply in high grades (When compared to many Marvel titles) and less than stellar page quality, getting those when everyone wants a copy, will likely be a challenge. There's no doubt that they take longer to heat up since movie hype isn't common place like it is with Marvel. They announce a movie and half the time, it never sees the light of day. Again though...if someone finally steps in at DC and becomes the "Kevin Feige" of the DC world, then I see this scenario playing out. Not expecting everyone to agree but that's just my view.
  15. DC keys have some good buys right now. Since DC still doesn't seem to have their momentum on the Silver Screen yet and consistency still isn't there for them, there are lots of good pick ups in the DC realm. If compared to many Marvel titles, many of the DC keys are still decent options at least IMO.
  16. There's a SS Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan Captain America 6 variant cgc 9.8 on comiclink ending soon. It's almost at 1k right now. I have a soft spot for that book to begin with as I really do like the Winter Soldier. The sigs are in decent spots too (rather than straight across a character's face...). Last GPA in 2019 was $900 for a S.Stan and Chris Evans copy so this is about right at the moment. Add a bit of extra heat on that price by the close of auction though. Considering the show is right around the corner, I'm sure it will see a bit of an uptick at close. Journey into Mystery 85 has been on the move in the mid grade sector and below for a while now. https://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/search.asp?FocusedOnly=1&where=auctions&title=captain+america+6&GO=GO&ItemType=CB
  17. that was a nice surprise. Thanks for posting it Jason.
  18. I still want to watch it despite bad reviews and I'd like to read the run as well. Making time to read all the story lines I'd like to read is a serious task.
  19. There's just something special about an all black cover.
  20. Thank you! Also, thank you. The centering is what got me but the wp didn't hurt either.
  21. Finally replaced my 9.4 Boston copy. Posted it in the "what's new in your Silver Age" space but it qualifies here as well.
  22. Picked this up recently. Another book that I once had and wanted to replace.
  23. I might have posted this somewhere else but I guess it doesn't hurt to post in this club as well. Wanted it for years but never got around to it.
