Set: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Volume 1)       these 2 additions are key comics associated with the creation of the TMNT

    1) please add the black and white gobbledygook #1 1984      - make it worth a lot of points (5k or more for 9.8)  First appearance of fugitoid.

    2) You should add The Comics Journal #89 - make it worth like 1000 points for 9.8     -   this is the first cameo appearance of Leonardo in print.

    3) Please add turtlemania special #1   worth like 500 points for a 9.8

Slots added on 12/7/20. Thank you

    Hi Matt,

Please reverse these additions to the volume 1 set. They would be more appropriate in the one shot set or in their own sets.

    Thanks

    Hello @pubmonkey,

Thank you for your post. I added them to the set since it already included a few other "one-off" books such as Fugitoid 1, Leonardo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 1, Raphael 1. I agree that these would be great fits in a Complete or One-shot/mini series set but wanted to follow the flow. I am happy to remove all of these books from Volume 1 if the opinion gains traction.

Every book has it 2 weeks of fame but don't blink in terms of selling - these crazy prices will not last when people hop to the new hot book of the week.

For most other titles I would agree with you. There were several boardies predicting a crash in Tmnt prices back in the middle of the summer based upon 2 weeks of crazy gains. Well here we are almost 6 months later and the prices show no signs of abating whatsoever. In fact the momentum is gaining across all the tmnt titles. There seems to be no end to the demand for these books and there are no movies or new titles to speak of that are driving the interest.

Its got great artwork, story, continuity, and a formula that worked then and is paying dividends now. It spawned a revolution. How many comics can boast that?

GoCollect lists a 7.0 as selling for $7000. So that's more than twice as much. I wonder if all their TMNT listings are off by that much. Hmmm. If a 9.6 is listed on GoCollect for $26,000, does that mean a copy would actually sell for over $50,000? It's nice to think it would. hm

All the price guides are just guides and are months/years out of date. The market is what dictates the prices right now and a 7.0 at $15600 puts a 9.4 at around $40000 give or take 10%...

I continue to accurately describe my collection, particularly as it relates to TMNT and speculating on CGC graded TMNT.

Sorry if accurately describing my comic collection as it relates to TMNT and speculating on CGC graded TMNT in this particular topic called "Official TMNT Speculation Thread" on the CGC Boards is "warped".  Love.

    :foryou:

I for 1 am grateful for you sharing your experiences about rally rd especially in context of TMNT 1... I had no idea a share ownership had been setup. Can you be more specific about what happens if you get an offer +30% of the rally rd valuation? Cheers...

Can somebody more knowledgeable than me help answer a question?

on TMNT adventures 1, there seems to be two different versions of the Canadian price variant. There was a sale today on eBay for a TMNT adv #1 Canadian price variant and this version doesn’t have a barcode on the cover.

My copy of the Canadian price variant has a barcode on the cover.

I’m assuming this means that there are two versions of the Canadian price variant? Is this right or am I confused

There should be a newsstand version (barcode) as well as a direct market one (without) for the CPV

I did get that info from Mirage👍🏆

I recall that yes, there were more than the 3,000 always stated.

Soooooo does anyone actually know print numbers for 5th & 6th printings or steer me in the direction to do so?

I’m fairly certain, as well as unable to find proof hm, that 6th printing was released in 2 formats with 2 different print numbers:

hardcover - signed and numbered and limited to 500

    softcover (6th print) - limited to 1000

i have no idea about the 5th printing. And would also like to know....

    Hello.

I don't see any sales for Iron Man 512 Venom for the amount that you are indicating.  The most recent sale I see is for $1200 in February 2017, which is well below the current #12 on the list.  If you have a link for that sale, feel free to post it.

As to the Transformers book, I am aware of it, but there just aren't enough (or any) public (graded) sales of the book, and strictly private sales of books are not considered.

sorry to dig up this old post but it was very relevant to the listing that ended here:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/TRANSFORMERS-UNIVERSE-Preview-two-1-s-3-2004-3H-Productions-Abduction/124377411131?hash=item1cf578ae3b:g:cyAAAOSwIs9fgg6Y

somebody got really lucky...wish I'd seen it before it ended doh!

  8. Raphael one shot is creeping up. Last sale was $2200 up from $1800 one month previously. This book is very hard to find in 9.8. There are only 49 books in 9.8 out of 919 graded which represent 5% of the population.

The oversized versions all seem to be doing very well in this market, especially in high grade. Here is a list of the original oversized comics from Mirage Studios 1984/1985:

    TMNT #1 1st print

    TMNT #1 2nd print

    TMNT #1 3rd print

    TMNT #2 1st print

    TMNT #2 2nd print

    TMNT #3 1st print

    TMNT #3 NYCC

    TMNT #4 1st print

    Raphael one shot 1st print

Fugitoid #1 (although this is larger than the others and could be considered a magazine)

Definitely.  The CGC 8.0 TMNT #3 NYCC Variant that just ended at $1,375 somehow set a new price record and still looks like a bargain.

Exactly. There are so few sales on record it’s hard to pin down a value. With today’s demand it’s a guessing game. Has anyone been keeping track of raw sales?

Any indication that page quality is making a difference in price lately?

Also FTR always felt #2 was very undervalued.  Not like 15,000 is a giant print run and it’s such a great cover.

And for whatever reason I rarely saw 9.8 #2s with white pages... it always seems to be ow/w.

I haven’t really noticed a trend in page quality. There don’t seem to be enough copies to be picky.

Damn, I remember picking up NM copies for $75, and that was only a few years ago.  I guess I need to start submitting my other copies.  I have a 9.4 slabbed, and a bunch of raw NMs, one of which is double signed by Pete and Kevin on the inside cover.

I bought my first #2 in 1987 at a convention for $50 and a #3 for $35 (was a double cover but I didn’t know until I got home). The prices stayed pretty much in that arena until a few years ago. It has been a long wait for these prices to shoot up...

TMNT #2 is very undervalued, if the prices for TMNT #1 3rd prints are any indication.  Both printings of TMNT #2 are older (and fewer were made) than the TMNT #1 3rd printings... so any copy of TMNT #2 is closer to the beginning of the Turtles than a TMNT #1 3rd print.

I was always surprised by the lack of demand for #2, the #2 2nd prints were neglected for a long while too and are beginning to get some credibility now
