Finally home! Stoked to be putting this back into my collection my stress level is back to normal & all is well in the world. ( except for the other 40 books now waiting to be graded lol). Seriously about a year ago I traded a lot ( at the time maybe a little to much) to add this book to my secret stash. However, the trade was based on the grade being a 8.5 so I am very happy with the grade & the signature.

@ADAMANTIUM Just curious, was this book printed with a batch of bad paper? Why so much OW/W grades, and this one already C/OW?

All the original oversize editions were printed on newsprint style paper. The original print company was not a comic printing business but rather local newspapers and flyers etc... that's why it is hard to find white pages. #5 and later were printed by a comic book printing company once their budget increased as Adamantium suggested.

Use your personal intuition as opposed to what the mob or think-tank says (even if it is a friendly, loving and earnest mob or tank as here :insane:). When prices spike on books, which were always accessible at significantly lower prices in the recent past it more often indicates a panic mentality and not a scarcity or true worth.  Reading these TMNT posts I see more of a sense of regret and got to catch this gravy train than anything else that indicates true increased value. In the end I see these books coming down to earth (not a crash but a gradual descending - sort of like a helium balloon coming down to earth).  My 2 cents :preach:

What causes helium balloons to lose their lift after a day or two? The answer is pretty simple: the helium leaks out. Helium is a very small atom and latex is pretty porous at the scale of a helium atom (if you ever go looking to buy balloons, you will see that there are "helium-grade" balloons, which try to be thicker and less porous). o.O

Regardless 9.8 in market is easily over 20 that last 9.6 was strong sale on heritage April 5/2021 .

Sorry to keep focusing on your posts...nothing personal :foryou:

I'm looking for a reason that 2nd print would be over $20k but can't find one at the moment. The last few sales of 9.6 (without double cover) were around $7k which would put 9.8's between $14k and $18k imo. Trust me, I would love it to be way higher but we have to be reasonable. The sale of the double cover on April is an outlier, just like the 9.4 SS 1st print that went for $45k. The buyer wanted that/those copies regardless of what it ended up costing. what is clear is that standard copies' prices are strong but not that strong.

hmm, will this start pulling up midgrades like 6.0 around $20,000?

It's very possible... The demand is so high and the supply so low that mid/low grades have lots of wiggle room. Let me say this: TMNT #1 is no ASM 300/IH 181 where there are 10's of thousands of copies graded for each and many more ungraded. There are literally only 3000 (+300) copies of the most important/popular book since the 1980's...the potential far outstrips any downside.

The 9.8 third print was offered on comic collector dot com no buyers at that time for 9.8 I purchased 9.6 ( three available ) then that copy went to eBay where it hit nearly 10 large .

I've been looking around trying to source this sale of 10 large to no avail. Have you got a link? ComicTom is not a reliable source and any information shared by him should be heavily scrutinized...

The highest sale I can see in the real world is $5500 on April 8 but I may not be seeing all the info

    cheers

For those few still around that still remember me, I used to hang around here by the handle Cyberjad - for some reason my username was changed at some point and I have been too lazy to deal with it. Anyways - hi to all my old friends!

I got out of collecting and sold off most of my stuff, but kept a few things I just wanted for myself. This for the most part meant things of little value that I just liked. Such as a file copy of Raphael #1 - who would have thought at the time?

These books I saved, along with some others, because I purchased them all from Mirage studio, directly from Dan, as part of Peter's collection he was selling off. Nickelodeon had just purchased the company and they were cleaning house.

Number 1 recently was signed / sketched by Kevin and is a perfect 9.8, as are all the books, and they all have white pages. I actually had never graded out the #1 for whatever reason, but I always held onto it knowing it was something special. Back then I bought a lot of books from Dan and saved all the best, just because I knew they had been Peter's.

Those are some sweet books :luhv:

I love the #1 second printing, and #2 with white pages is harder to find these days. The backstory and direct connection to Peter is the icing...

Hi I've a few groo comics think I'm gonna get them graded and sell them picked them up from a charity shop £2 each

    Wttb!

I'd be careful getting these graded thinking that you'll make a profit. If the grades come back anything less than a 9.8 you'll likely not get your money back. I see a few spine ticks and spine rolls in there. The Groo Special will have to be at least a 9.6 to make it worthwhile. It's sad but true... One day the market will see these as something special but until then we'll have to settle back and eat our cheese dip.

Hello @ADAMANTIUM This is the link to the page. Maybe you could advise me, do you think this is a good purchase for 3,600 - seller would accept 3,400? It is from the UK but almost the entire run of volume 1? Thoughts?

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254988394217

the #1,2,4 individually on the 'bay' would run you $2500 + shipping (3 shipping costs)

The PGX #3 is worth the same as a raw, imo, if it's even a 9.4.

The rest of the run individually would take time and energy + lots of shipping. Are you looking for nm copies? or are you looking for subbing candidates?

The interior sigs I think are very cool for TMNT #1 in any print, great for a non SS fan (at least imho) and I’d think well liked for those who are.
I owned a 9.6 with sigs just like that one from CC and my 9.8 has them on first page (att)
Personally I think they are a a total bonus to have - the two true undisputed creators/writers/artists sigs in there. (No contention by them or anyone lol Not quite the case as we see and hear thru the years with Marvel characters or over with Kane=>Bill Finger)

Monetarily…I just thought a little premium kinda like ow vs white pages with SA Marvels. But maybe are more valued/coveted or perhaps no correlation whatsoever. There are a decent number of first print #1s with their sigs out there.

    cool sigs!

And that's where it ended. :(

I had expected at least a little last-minute sniping, but there was none.

Just checking in now and am not surprised with the results. A little sniping would have been more fun.

There's definitely a premium for interior sigs from way back when. Does this impact prices on #2 at all?

In a few weeks, I'll be going to my first comic con in well over a year. And my #1 hope is that I can find some cheap Groos to fill out my collection. Here's hoping Groo doesn't break out until I can complete the run at $1 apiece, the way Groos were meant to be purchased.

I think it's just a matter of time before Groo explodes. Groo is too interesting a character not to eventually get that big break.

Agreed, I've been hodling these for many years believing his break will come. Back when Groo comics first came out they were hugely successful and commanded a premium. Over the years that premium has given way to dollar box prices with the exception of 9.8 graded books. I hope they have their day, Groo is one of the more entertaining reads (albeit a little repetitive) and a welcome break from superheroes.

This one on eBay is surprising. I thought (speculated) it would top at $15k or there about considering,IMO, it is not a 9.6 based on the many color breaking creases, it's PGX, the signature looks suspect, and the seller is newish. These things together making it where someone would put some money at risk but not nearing what seems to be current floors in the $50k area.

    WTTB!

How did that ever get a 9.6??? definitely buyer beware.
