My friend, you are exactly right. I should keep my mouth shut instead of trying to make comments about how or what is going on here. Thought I was helping, but turns out I just created an angry lynch mob.

    BucOne,

we are all human...it is easy to post off the cuff or at a first knee jerk reaction. I often typed, paused for a few seconds before I click "submit" and decided not to post. For every post I made here, I probably deleted or not submitted just as many. Mostly because I know how I am. It is easy to shoot out a smart post to a comment or a reply I felt is "idiotic" at the time by another poster or simply something I disagreed with... After a few seconds, cooler head prevailed...but that is just me.

I have commented many times via PM to other board members about the "crazy" prices that some sellers asked so you and I and just about everyone here have at least once or more think the asking price is out of wack but so be it. I only have been on this board actively for 2 months (I lurked for about 7 months) and I rarely see a book that was sold here that is not inline if cheaper than GPA so I do believe like anything else...if you price it right, there is always a buyer. If you can't sell in 48 hours then there are 2 reasons...the book is overpriced or the book is not wanted and the seller will reduce or take it off the market. The other reason is the economy but at the right price, some people will find some ways to get the book if it is a key book.

Now, have you sold that X-men 1 9.2 yet? if not, let me know and I will send you an offer ;) and don't shoot me if I say your asking price is WACKO

  2. wow, I didn't know this entire issue with Filter created this hot topic but I am surprised BucOne even admitted his true intention about his comments about the ASM 129 sale.

Here is my comment to Adams via PM minutes after BucOne posted about that book back on 11/25

"not my business but I think you have a stalker. It doesn't take a genius because the cert is the same on your book and the one he linked from CL so his "discovery" is more than "hey, look at the pic, it is the same book"

I think he is trying to sabotage your sale by showing others you paid $1600 and now try to sell yours for $2k plus.

I am well aware of the spat between you 2 from that Batman thread but to me,this is a cheap shot of trying to undermining another person's sale.

    just my 2 cents"

BucOne, I even read Roy's comment on the other sale thread when he tried to stick up for you but damn man, you have that "I am against the world" kind of mentality.

What is wrong with making a profit if you can? I bet that X-men1 9.2 that you tried to sell and advertised for a while would have net you 5 figure profit.

We have exchanged PM when I first joined (although I have no idea why), but it was civil but for the most part, I see that many here don't like you for good reasons but you are set to not even care to fix anything...It is a damn shame really.

For my part, I have not bought a book from Filter. I have bid on a few books on ebay and didn't win any yet so I have nothing to gain here. The price of the ASM 129 is irrelevant, if he priced it too high, then he will have to lower it. Hell there are dozen of books every week on this site that I can see from doing a little research that the books were bought just weeks/months ago for much less....and when I see that, I won't make an offer or wait for the price to be discounted...that is all.

  3. general question about 9.9

since I never have one and the only one I see is the NM 98, I like to know the criteria if anyone care to explain.

can a 9.9 has a not perfect centered cut? or does everything must be near perfect? assuming a book as perfect corners and spine but it is miswrap or miscut, can a book with this printing flaw gets a 9.9?

I am under the impression that a 9.9 doesn't have to be perfectly centered book.

  4.

It is a complete run from 1-514 with all of the annuals and three of the Giant-Size issues. ComicLink will also be selling my TOS 49 and ST 120 and others.

Dude...no..but i understand and I will look at them very closely at the next auction.

My brother is a chemist and he too had just got laid off at Sirtris Pharma. Three years earlier, he was laid off at Ariad Pharma, and 3 years before that, it was Pfizer. He is so down about the entire pharma field and he is about as brilliant as can be. He graduated from Yale with a PHD in chemistry at the age of 23 on full scholarship. He made ton of moneys from all the stocks all these companies gave him over the year but he felt used and abused...with little regards for his contribution.

  5. Sigh.

The label is as important as the book to some.

Which is the utter stupidity of it all.

Name one other product where the wrapping is more important than the goods?

Yes, it is "stupid" but I can think of others

luxury cars like Jaguars where qualities are near the bottom with a great body/exterior and high ticket prices? Just throwing it out there since I always love that brand but always read about the bad qualities.."If you have money to throw at that car, who cares about quality?" I heard that line on just about many high end luxury car owners that don't care about wasting countless hours and money at the shop. Maybe my analogy is way off since I am a simple guy when it comes to car. I care to get from point A to B and that is about it. I work at home so I don't cruise around town showing off my ride or insecure enough to fish for compliments on my car.

wrapping or brand or whatever you call it...there are such things that are utterly stupid for most of us and perfectly "reasonable" for a minority.

wouldn't the world be real boring if we all think and agree on everything?....hmmmm...unless you all want to be assimilate like the BORG heh?

WTTB. What other books you got?

Star Wars #1 price variant? ;)

    I kid...

not a knock on his choice but few in this hobby can afford to shell out this kind of money for this book so the Star Wars book is right up there in "scarcity" that most here won't bid or can't afford.

You guys are brutal. It is his money. The one thing for sure is most of us wish we could be the seller...heck I hated that book and would not fork out the money to slab my 9.8 raw copy but if I have a 9.9, I will gladly take the same $$ and buy a 8.5 TOS #39 for around the same price.

If I have endless fun, I will gladly pay top money for the books I love regardless of how crazy you all think it is....X-men #1 9.6 for $200k ....give it to me now!!!!!

  7. I bought low and mid grade raw books here and I have zero problem but when i entered into the high grades, I have been disappointed. Now, maybe my expectations are too high and when I sub the books, it will come back as advertised...but I rather not take any more chances here or Ebay.

  8. sweet Alpha Flight! glad you went back in there to look for more.

It is not unusual to see the errors in the same box of new shipment so for any current collectors out there.... If you pick one up of the rack and see a double, don't forget to check out the rest of what is left...just don't get the shop owner to yell at you for ruining all the books ;)

  9. years ago, I along with 2 of my middle school buddies went to the LCS after school. The new FF by John Byrne was out that day and I was the first one to pick one off the rack. To my surprise it was a double cover and i told my 2 buddies about it. We found 2 more in the rack so all 3 of us bought a double cover FF that day. Sadly, that book is no longer in my possession.

I wonder if that was an isolated situation where multiple double covers were found in the same box. It would be neat to have multiple issues of the same book with double covers.

Anyone here lucky enough to have that?

  10. I have bought a few books from him and I am ok with the purchases. Were the books overgraded? yes but not grossly. I learned now that anyone that care to post 3 to 5 "fuzzy" pics can't be trusted. Hell, even 2 clear far away stupid angle pics like Roboj are worthless to judge...let alone 5 fuzzy out of focus pics.

Nonetheless, I did buy a Batman silver age book from him a while ago and he had no problem refunding me 100% when I wasn't satisfy with the book.
