  1. oh no...lets not go there. If you do a search on PGX, there are plenty of discussions about what is wrong with PGX. Nonetheless, I think they are getting better...not hard when you are starting at the bottom.

I think there are some people buying PGX slabbed books because they tend to sell at a discount compared to CGC books and then cracked them for "other" reasons.

  2. thanks man! I am so glad that I decided to send them to CGC a few months back for slabbing. It is such a relief that most of the books survived well for decade(s) when I left them with relatives that tossed them in heating and laundry rooms with all kind of water and flood problems. Most of the stuff that were damaged were my X-men from 230 to 300 and other titles but I really didn't care much about those issues so they are readers now for my nephew.

I didn't realize there was a printing error on other 113 but I never really looked at another issue since I bought mine copy way back and i knew I won't likely ever need to upgrade. If anyone have a sample of this error, I would love to see it.

  3. here is one I had for years that sat in my "worthless" box. I figure you guys might like it. The condition of this book beside the color break where the "Inc" is almost perfect...shocking for something that sat in that box for decades.

  4. Here are 3 more from yesterday pickup. I didn't realize I had 2 copies of #6. This 9.0 looks more like a 9.4 or even 9.6 . I can't see much flaws with sharp corners both back and front and the spine is near perfect with no visible color loss spine stress. On number 5, the only flaw really is the top edge on the front cover...spine is flawless and the corners are near perfect. I think these 2 are the 2 "disappointment" since I really think they should be higher. I can't complain with the rest. Number nine got a 7.0 and it is much worse compared to 5.

  5. actually i spoke too soon. I finally had a chance to look at all 100 books and 2 did get purple labels. Both had small amount of color touches on covers. I am likely to have the color touch remove because both are high grades and key books(X-men 14 and 94) and I think it is worth it to pay the pros to remove them.

the majority of this batch were bought at conventions from 1989 to 1993 and some were bought on Ebay from 1999 to 2003. I were pretty careful back in those days at the conventions. I am sure the dealers hated dealing with me because i am one of those buyers that always asked to take the books out of the bags and spent a lot of time looking at them. I bought a bunch of raw books from Ebay from 1999 to 2003 and quite few of them were PLOD and I won't bother submit them because the restorations were so obvious. One of the main reasons I left the hobby by the end of 2003 until recently. Right before I left in 2003, I bought myself the x-men 1 as a parting gift since I wanted that book more than anything else back then.

  6. ok, I just pick up my first ever batch from CGC in person. All X-men Silver and Bronze age books and they have been in my personal collection for around 20 years. I bought most of them from 1989 to 1992. I basically just went thru my raw boxes of books and picked out 100 of my best from 2 to 125. I have some of these books in slab already in higher grades and some of these actually came back with a higher grades so I am please.

Out of 100, 40 was 9.0 was higher, 24 was 8.0 to 8.5, and the remains are 6.0 to 7.5. Not bad for the first time and some surprises and some disappointments but not one purple so I am happy about that. At least, I did a decent job picking out the books to submit since I ran into a few "doctored" books as I browsed thru the boxes.

Nope they are definitely not pressed :P easy people, lets not go into a war on this topic

Here we go, the 4 oldest books that i was pleasantly surprised with the grades. I think 3 of the 4 got higher grades than I predicted. I will post the rests of the high grade books on the X-men boards for the X fans (thumbs u

  7. "half-stepping"? you mean I was a big spender? sorry, english is not my first language :(

I wish I remember how much I paid for it. I had a bad habit of buying things and then don't ever write down what I paid for them anywhere but I am pretty sure it was between 300 and 400 dollars. In all of these years, I have never sold one book so I never thought of caring what I paid for them....stupiddddddd in hindsight this hobby.

I wish I had the money back then because about the same time on Ebay, someone posted a complete original art with colors also for one of Neal Adam's X-MEN. I can't recall the exact issue but I think it was the one with Sauron. It was an incredible set and I didn't bother trying to bid. I have never anything like that since. Anyone here bought that?

I would trade my entire set of x-men collection for all those pages today if I have a 2nd chance.
