  1. cool article bro - do you even have an Af15?

    Yes. Two copies.

Do you own a lot of original art?

    No

So you're not the member formerly known as Krazy Kat?

You're obsessed with this belief. For the gazillionth time - no !

Sure, but to my knowledge you've never addressed it directly.

You certainly do post A LOT like him.

so are you ABSOLUTELY sure you are not crazy cat ?

  2. It seems high grade 9.2+, well wrapped copies are being held onto by collectors. I haven't seen many copies at auction or even on ebay lately.

I agree. I think part of the problem is not many HG copies actually exist. SPJM was not the most popular title and I don't think it saw the same speculative interest that other bronze titles did.

The census (while only a poor proxy) is interesting in this case. Only 558 graded copies total! Only six in 9.8. and We haven't seen a substantial rise in those numbers since the book's price started to climb. So my feeling is the census won't ever explode.

As a comparison IM 55 has 1969 copies with 53 in 9.8 and ASM 129 has 6320 copies on census with 89 in 9.8.

    Thought provoking figs ...

I might just go get my HG copy soon ....

I just need to flip my beater first.

  3. I wouldn't sweat that $1250. I keep looking looking at the book and I know it has that whatever-it-is on the lower left corner but it's such a sharp looking copy.

By the way, and you might already know this, but I was looking for comparison copies on Heritage and found the same book sold for $23,302.50 in 2014.

And the back cover looks amazing.

    Stellar copy man.

    Thats a keeper

  4. The reason art continues to go up is because there is a different and wider appreciation for the masters and the key factor is, there is only 1 of each piece. The exact opposite can be said about most comic books. I feel we have only seen a fraction of the books on the census, there are a lot of unslabbed keys out there and many who choose not to publicize what they have.

    look at it this way:

if you want an authentic picasso his total output would be around 900-1100 pieces from which you choose.

if you want a 1st batman well there is about 50-100 tec27 copies known to exist.

    which one is scarcer?

  5. Hate to say it, but I thought his DC work (from Jimmy Olsen to Kamandi to New Gods to Mr. Miracle, etc.) was garbage, as was his Captain America run in the 200s.

The one exception to this was his incongruously _awesome_ work for DC on the Losers in Our Fighting Forces.

so lemme see if I get this right? everything from Jimmy Olsen to Kamandi to New Gods to Mr. Miracle, etc.) was "garbage"?

    Huh?

  6. Back in the early 80s, I got my first exposure to Kirby's work. It was his 70s stuff. At first I didn't care for the block fingered, squiggly line style but it slowly grew on me. I think the turning point might have been when I went to my LCS and bought all 16 issues of the Demon series. (for the princely sum of $12)

I opened up the first issue and saw the image below

I was blown away. Still am today.

I consider Kirby as the undisputed King of superhero comics. No one above him. No one beside him.

I take off my hat for Kirby. Now and for the rest of eternity. God bless him!
