  1. With Squidmo animated .gifs, random Stu and Bug participation, memes, pernts, hitting the notify button on yourself, meltdowns, set-ups, conspiracies, pressing, wife-stealing, scam-busting, special needs salesmen, Diggler's hottie file, homoeroticism, cults of personality, Fleeanimation, Strawberry Shortcake thread bumping, how-to diagrams, balloon animals and high hilarity.
  2. I suspect that it was a television personality like Svengoolie or Sammy Terry. I will see if I can track anything down . . .
  3. I was talking about the seam line from the polybag - but yes, there has been a ton of talk about the CB line as well. Nothing can be done about the CB line - and since there are copies without it, all copies that have it should be screwed from a technical grade standpoint.
  4. If someone just debags this book and sends it in, either thinking it will de facto be mint, or not observing the creases from the bag seam and/or the card, they are going to get a 9.2 or a 9.4. At this point, pressing is the only solution for books that have stayed in the polybags since distribution.
  5. The John McCrea is fantastic, and Natali Sanders continues to prove she is one of the absolute best at producing sketch covers.
  6. Not everyone appreciates the relative difficulty of getting those books in high grade. I do.
  7. In my opinion, the grade has an impact. Here are my thoughts: (1) There is a part of the market that demands 9.8, if your sketch is not a 9.8, then there are people who are automatically not interested. (2) There are also people who will use a 9.6 or less grade as a reason to pay less for the sketch. (3) Even those who don't care know that there is a segment of the market that does care, and it factors into the final price. Computing a price for SS books, at times, is more art than science, but grade is almost always a big part of the calculus.
  8. Staple hole misalignment, damage or multiple holes and a large disparity between wear on book and wear on cover are the easiest ways to identify. Hard to see inside a slab.
  9. Why would it be extremely odd? The only married book I ever subbed (I did not discover it when I looked at it) was an FF11
  10. Anyone can post their stuff, but I for one, am glad that these Ash-terpieces are keeping this thread alive. My generation may have "invented" the celebrity sketch cover, but you guys have taken it to completely new heights.
  11. Maybe you could deign to address the legitimate concerns of the other Boardie, your highness.
  12. I was not in the brick and mortar industry at the time, but 1989 is the year that I would pick. The summer of Batman was insane.
  13. People that start self aggrandizing anniversary threads are tools. Congrats.
  14. If it was published, it almost certainly is either from Hot Stuf' or Star*Reach.
  15. Merry Christmas to the man with the PhD in Balls!!!
