Does it feel like a whiff given that the first Ant-Man made under $200 million? I doubt they expected it to significantly outperform that one.
I think after an Avengers movie, they expect a little uptick in grosses from a follow-up Marvel picture (Iron Man 3.)

Now, time to watch “____ Blockers.”
Do we have a thread for that one?
Despite some raunchy jokes and swears, I thought it was pretty earnest with a rather thoughtful cast.
The girls were about as perfect as you could get in their roles, but the real surprise on how well Jon Cena had excellent comedy timing.
Three out of four stars.

There was a lot of fresh ideas in The Last Jedi to save it for me.
Not everyone is going like everything thrown at them, but it was an effort.
The first movie was a fairy-tale alternative to the "things" that were happening in the 70's. An escape, that galvanized the summer blockbuster experience.
We are 41 years later, in the 21st century, with a wannabe blockbuster released just about every weekend.
You just can't release the same toned fairy-tale and get the same results, as George Lucas found out how sy-fy changed in '99 with The Matrix, when the much anticipated "The Phantom Menace" came out.
Since 1927's "Metropolis," the most acclaimed films in the science-fiction genre has depended on a day-to-day basic parable for film-goers to connect with (see last year's "Get Out.") 43 years later, I still can watch "The Stepford Wives," will I be able to say the same thing about "Rampage" or "Transformers: The Last Knight?"

Really enjoyed the trailer in front of "A Quiet Place."
I guess, I might be able to forgive Henry Cahill for "Batman vs. Superman."
"It's not personal" or something like that.

A masterfully crafted piece!
Four out of four stars.
Millicent Simmonds was excellent; Emily Blunt was pretty solid, in her warm up to Mary Poppins.
The cinematography reminded me a lot of how John Carpenter used the aspect ratio of the frame to let the picture do the talking (if the characters weren’t.)
Not sure why so many folks on here disliked it or thought it was average?
But, I have to be honest; we don’t need a sequel (despite the set-up.) I don’t care how much money it grossed, stop while they are ahead (Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist, The Matrix, Jaws, Predator, etc.)
Now, time to watch “Blockers.”
Do we have a thread for that one?

I've given up on this movie.
This will be "The Meg" of comic-book movies.

they need to visit the Savage Land and give Phoenix a break. we all know the story. maybe a little Sauron, considering all the jurassic stuff.
Hell yeah!
Didn't the X-chicks get marooned in The Savage Land not that long ago in funny books?
I thought that was a cool arc.

Maybe it will go direct to video or Netflix.
Even if it never gets released, it's still going to be out there waiting, like "Grizzly II" (starring a young Kevin Bacon.)

Can't wait to see it!

Where's Jameson? Maybe he'll get his own spin-off. Seriously, he's really the most important supporting character from the comics, and he hasn't been used in a movie since Spider-Man 3 11 years ago.
Oscar-winning J.K. Simmons would get a solo movie green lit in a minute.
Pretty sad to admit, but I would watch it, as I am a fan.

It was alright.
Kind of like a Batman Begins for Laura Croft.
Great looking and a game cast, but when it's over... who cares.

No one has ever topped this theme though.
A little morning cocktail Sarah Jane?
Love the carefree sweatshirt tied-over-the-shoulders 80's look too.

Agreed.
Example - we all know Black Panther 2 is happening soon, but I wish they'd at least pretend he's still dead for the time being -- ditto that we know Homecoming 2 is coming.
I've been thinking about this myself, as a huge misstep Disney/Marvel made for the emotional impact of this summer's Avengers movie.
It just feels like their now-classic "Agent Coulson's (aka Son of Coul) death cheat from the original Avengers. If no one is in any actual jeopardy in these, they are going to feel like your average episode of Charlie's Angels, A-Team or MacGyver, going forward.

Wait, so Marvel got the last Spider-Man movie right? The same one where Spider-Man has his own AI he called 'Karen"? The same movie where his chest symbol was a Spider Drone?
Thank you. I thought it was just me.
Still better than the third Spider-Man, though.

You are sick of the butt-kicking female movies so you buy Tomb Raider? ? Sparrow was actually not that type of movie. I think there was only one fight scene with her outside of training. Though if I had to buy one, I’d say Tomb Raider is the slightly better choice as far as rewatching. The ending of TR disappointed me because it’s nearly the same ending from a novel I really enjoyed called Riptide. As far as the explanation for the curse.
Tomb Raider just felt more comfortable of a choice, since I was somewhat familiar with the mythology.
Despite Lawrence's talent, I was worried it was going to be just a slick version of La Femme Nikita/Black Widow. I'll pick it up in the $3.74 bin at Walmart down the line to see if I was wrong.

I couldn’t make it through the Danish Girl. I found it tough sledding... I can’t explain it...
Felt too TV Movie of the Week, where Vikander was the only one who showed to act.
If you are a fan of hers, this would be a movie to check out as she showed surprisingly more "range" in a thankless role than the main actor.
She deserved the gold.

interesting, perhaps it is worth a viewing...
Of course her April character in "The Man From UNCLE," was fun role in a rather enjoyable spy romp (compared to Jason Bourne.)

I enjoyed Ex Machina, never saw The Danish Girl.
The Danish Girl is a somewhat un-even movie, but Vikander walked off with it with her heartbreaking role that won her an Oscar.
After a while, you have to wonder if the movie is about Eddie Redmayne's character or the wife who supported him throughout his journey.
A bit routine with it's plot devices, but she was unforgettable.

I bought the blueray and watched it the other night. I went into it with little expectations and found I enjoyed it.
It was a surprise. Alicia is smoking hot ( to me ) and that is a bonus.
After Ex Machina and The Danish Girl, she can do no wrong, well maybe the bland Jason Bourne. Hmmmm...
-
It was just a ho-hum movie. It has it moments, good in spots, but otherwise forgettable due to a lackluster story and plot devices.

Seemed like it was made to sell toys and other merchandise.
Hopefully, it does so we might get a better movie next time (going by the reviews.)

Despite being a J-Law superfan, I bought Tomb Raider instead. Watching it tomorrow instead.
Kinda sick of the butt-kicking female movies lately though.
Official AntMan #2 Movie Thread - Antman & the Wasp July 6th 2018

Might not be so much comic fatigue, but moviegoers are slightly burned out with the Marvel Universe for the summer, after the cliffhanger in the flagship Avengers title.
Antman & Wasp was probably considered to be the most expendable one.
Most of these movies are made with the same kind of committee style filmmaking, it's like watching 3 James Bond movies in a year.
Who wants that? When I was a kid, 2 Bond movies came out in '83.
For me, Antman sounds like a great Saturday Night Blu Ray viewing in a few months and not a trip to a matinee. My
